I agree, there was really no need for the angst. Especially alongside the real emotion evoked by real events. It makes it worse knowing so many of these things really happened in history.
Why do people do these things to each other? Why do they feel the need to conquer and obliterate? Age-old questions, I suppose, with no answers. :)

I finished too. Even though I knew it was foolish, I was still kind of hoping that more people would make it out to a new life... that was rough at the end!

His satire is so good, whether it's society or individuals he's poking fun at, and he has so many hilarious minor characters! The first one I read was David Copperfield, and it might be my favorite for that reason. But that's hard to decide.

I've flown through the book! I'm about 75% done and should finish it tonight.
I'm so afraid of what's going to happen to the characters. I know it can't be good. It's different reading about the British Empire from the other side. Sad.

I've just started this. I'll report back in when I'm further along.

I also finished Goblet. Very much enjoyed it, but found that knowing the ending changed my perceptions throughout and made it much more sinister than the first time I read it! I took a bit of a break to catch up on some challenges, but will get back to book 5 soon I think.

Ha! That's always fun. Congrats!

Glad you're joining us, Lynnette and Kim. Good luck!

Hi Kim! Welcome to the group!

It's poetry / plays month. Does anyone have any special plans?

I'd like to join but I've already got two classics I need to read in October. I might join later if you end up going past October.

I enjoyed it, well, until the end anyway. The end was a bit harsh! It left me with a bitter taste.
The Black Moth is a fun choice for this. Did you like it?

Just finished
The Moth. I'd never even heard of the author before this challenge! It turned out pretty well.

Toxic In-Laws sounds interesting, Camille! Any good tips in there? :D

I'll probably be starting mid-week!

I finished the sonnets! I feel like I cheated because I listened to them, and I've discovered that I don't take things in very well aurally. So I can't say they stuck, or that I spent much time contemplating them individually. I did get a good general sense of them, though. That counts, right?

I'm in! I'm so glad that you started a buddy read for it.
I think the Last Queen of India is the original title. They changed it for the US release for some reason.
