One of the doorstoppers I'm planning to read this year is perfect for this challenge. Winter of the World by Ken Follett explores both Europe and Eastern Europe during World War II, and I'm going to need some motivation to read it.

How many books are on that list, Lynnette? We've been considering doing a challenge for banned book week later in the year, but maybe we should make it longer if there are a lot to choose from.
Spring is arriving in the Western hemisphere. New growth is all around, from animals and nature to spiritual rebirth. Our theme for April is animals & rebirth. What does rebirth signify for you? Do you have any recommendations for great books featuring animals? Fiction or non-fiction, what are you reading?

I'm going for level 1, and focusing on books by date added to Goodreads. I don't own any of these, so it's a nice complement to the Buyer's Remorse challenge.Update 5/2017: Since the challenge has been extended until the end of the year, I plan to complete at least level 2.

Clear away the cobwebs from the back of your shelves and find the books that have been waiting the longest for you to read. No more delays! You have until the end of the year to clear them away, even if it means deciding you're no longer interested in some of them. You can choose from physical shelves, or it can be a Goodreads shelf sorted by date added. Read the books that have been there the longest. Owned or not, what matters is how long you've been meaning to read them.
**You can list up to 20 books that you will choose from for the challenge.**

The next leg of our world travels takes us to the continent of Europe (including both Western and Eastern Europe). This challenge runs from April to June 2017.
Since our purpose is vicarious travel, a majority of the content must actually be set in Europe. Fiction and nonfiction are both acceptable.
This will be choose your own adventure - you decide what your goal should be. Bon Voyage!
For those of you who haven't had a chance to complete this challenge yet, we're going to extend through the end of June. Enjoy!
I just finished reading The Seventh Scroll, which takes place in Ethiopia in a canyon on the Blue Nile around the turn of this century. It's an archeology adventure thriller, so a lot different from the first book in the series (that one was historical). I liked it, but definitely not as much as the first book. It was fun, gory at times, with a few glimpses of the political scene and corruption of the region. Definitely not a serious look at Africa, but a great backdrop for the story.
Trisha, I don't have any recommendations on length since I'm not so worried about how many books I manage to read. I'm more geared towards knocking out something that I've been meaning to read and putting off. Checking in on the readathon really helps with motivation whatever your goals are. It's up to you!
I stayed up too late last night reading The Seventh Scroll! I'm so close to finishing it, but knew today would be miserable if I kept going. Maybe I'll finish on my lunch break. :)
