118012 I was thrust into the whirlwind of literature after reading Crime and Punishment. Must admit, it's my favourite read of 2013, and hopefully I can explore a lot more Russian Lit in 2014!

What have your experiences been?

118012 Crime and Punishment has been my only taste of Russian Lit, and it completely blew me away. It's up there as my 2nd favourite book.

A buddy read for a Russian book would be awesome!

118012 Its basically an unofficial group read that a few people decide to do. Its also known as a buddy-read

118012 It seems like Russian Lit is a big focus. We could do a readalong in January!

118012 I read quite a few of Rick Riordan's first Percy Jackson series and really enjoyed it. Must get back into reading his!

118012 January is when we kick off our reading for the year! I know I'll definitely be trying to kick-start and get a head, and that means roughly planning what I read.

Has anyone thought about what they're going to read in January?

My plan, ignoring possible books I may get for Christmas is:

The White Queen (for the Genre Challenge)
Tess of the d'Urbervilles
Notes from Underground
Grimms' Fairy Tales
Dracula

118012 Hi everyone,

2014 is coming up fast, and the aim is to get this group functioning just before then to make sure it's ready to really go for it in 2014!

If anyone has any suggestions/wants to comment on anything, please post here or send me a message. I want to make this the best group I can, and I'm sure Faye does too!

118012 I'm thinking of doing either The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales or Dracula in January.

Would anyone like to join me in reading either of them? Grimm's Fairy Tales seems like something that would be really great as a buddy read!

118012 90 books is big! I can't wait to see what some of your picks are!

118012 Okay, I'll edit it a bit and put it up in the challenge!

118012 January - Historical
February - Chick-Lit
March - Crime/Mystery
April - Humour
May - Non-Fiction
June - Contemporary
July - Fantasy/Science-Fiction
August - Young Adult
September - Classic/Literary
October - Horror
November - Adventure
December - Your favourite genre so far.

I've done a rough layout. Seeing as we are one short, I thought December would be nice to really expand on a genre individually we liked.

If this is liked, please say so, and I'll put it up within the challenge description.
118012 Good luck, Ola! I'm massively jealous of your job!

118012 Kitty, Classics are awesome! You may be interested in the upcoming group reads currently being planned. We're just sorting out the group read layouts, then we'll get ahead with nominations!

118012 I love the idea of merging the group read with the genre challenge. That would be really effective!

So, we could have:

Genre Group Read
Classic Group Read
Young Adult Group Read

118012 Welcome Lisa! I get your tv issue. I always find it hard to read when I have TV shows to watch!

You'll have to recommend some historical fiction to me. I really need to read more!

118012 Allison, I started that a while a go and loved it.

Have you seen the Netflix adaptation of it? I absolutely love it!
Dec 08, 2013 08:31AM

118012 That's true. Nothing has to be set in stone.

Why don't we trying YA, Classic and General, and see how popular YA is? If it's not very popular, we'll trial run Contemporary at the same time and see which is most liked?
