118012 Luffy, it has gotten all positive responses from our members, as you can see in the previous posts. As explained previously, discussion will hopefully commence in the next few days. Personally, I have some things I'd like to discuss about the novel. Perhaps once that has started up, you may feel more inclined to read it.

118012 February sounds good to me! I might read it slightly before then, depending on what I get read this month.

I'm actually rather excited about this book. I haven't read a lot of YA fiction recently, and it's been the 'big one' of last year.

Inkeri: I'll probably change the title to something more formulaic so it has a bit more information in the title when we have a date and some more people. If that's okay?

118012 That's the idea of buddy-reads, and if you want to start the thread, feel free to! We can then see who is interested, and set a date.

It's exciting to see our first buddy read being set up!

118012 If you want to make a general '50/50 thread' or a film thread to discuss that part of your challenges, feel free to do so!

I'd personally love to do the 50/50 challenge, but I'm more of a TV person :) good luck to you!
118012 If you have read it and wish to discuss in-depth before the second half of the month, you are of course free to do so.

I would advise to place any possible spoilers in the spoiler brackets. This will keep things tidy and means people won't be spoiled without intending to do so!

118012 I've heard a lot about Jo Nesbo recently...
118012 Narin, don't worry about not reading it early. Read it when you want to read it, although I will warn you that spoilers may be present in the thread!

I'm glad it cleared things up!

118012 4. The White Queen by Philippa Gregory

I really loved this book, and the period it was set in. I'll definitely be reading more of this series!
118012 Luffy, I'm sorry you're not 100% happy.

We generally avoid discussing the books in detail until half way through the month, so people have time to read it without the story being spoiled on the thread. Once half the month has passed, then discussions generally get deeper, as everyone has generally read it by then. This minimises the possibility of spoiling the book for other members.

I would recommend reading it. I personally don't label it as a YA book, even though it is classed as one. It's definitely not a 'typical' YA book, and the 'modern' history of it is dealt with very well. I hope you stick by the discussion, and that one day you'll read the book.

I hope this clears some questions and confusion you may have had. We're trying to minimise spoilers, so deep discussion probably won't commence for another few days.

118012 Not all of your books have to be based on the genre, don't worry! I'm planning on only doing one or two a month for the genre challenge! It' up to you! 5 books is amazing so far!

After enjoying the time period of The White Queen so much, I've decided to stick with the period and read Shakespeare's Richard III. It counts towards the genre challenge, and it ticks off another Shakespeare!

118012 Book, I'd be interested in doing Divergent with you!

118012 Beware, Faye becomes like a rabid bunny when you mention A Tale of Two Cities.

Can't praise the novel enough though, especially as an introduction to Dickens!

118012 Thought I'd kickstart Jan off with The White Queen for our genre challenge. Really enjoying it so far, and I completely forgot how much I love historical fiction!

Up after that will probably be a shorter one (Looking into doing Jamaica Inn or Doctor Faustus), before starting Catch-22!

118012 What did you think of it, Rob?
Jan 07, 2014 04:25AM

118012 I'm definitely going to have to cut down on the TV I watch when I go to Uni. I'll probably just stick to the shows that I'm caught up on, so I only get them once a week!

I read Pretty Little Liars (the first book) and didn't like it a lot. I think the characters are better developed in the show. Especially since the first book only dealt with like the pilot! :L I just feel a lot more for the characters in the TV show!
118012 I'm completely the same, Luffy. Considering it's such a major piece of fiction, I feel like I need to read it!

118012 Really gotten into The White Queen now. I forgot how much I love historical novels!

After finishing it, I'll definitely move on to Catch-22, to give it another attempt.

118012 Its great to see how invested you're getting into the Genre Challenge!

I can vouch, A Tale of Two Cities is an amazing read!
118012 Definitely!

118012 Brenda, social science fiction has always interested me. You'll have to give me some recommendations!

Welcome to the book club, and I hope it lives up to your expectations!
