118012 Sarah, Birdsong is seriously beautiful.

Jennifer, I also want to read Pride and Prejudice, and Anna Karenina!

John Steinbeck seems really popular with people!

118012 Kassandra, I'm feeling the exact same way. Reading has tailed off completely.

118012 I've been meaning to read that for ages, Sarah!

118012 Shreya, that's why I rarely read multiple books at a time. I never get any of them finished!

118012 Amazing list. You'll have to let me know which Hemingway, Dostoevsky and Dickens you decide to do :)

I'll definitely be following this :)

118012 Hi all,

Me and Faye have been discussing the idea of having some form of non-fiction group read and we've had a few ideas:

1. Add a Non-Fiction Group Read - it would make it 4 group reads a month, which is a lot.
2. Alternate the classic and non-fiction group read each month. (eg. February: Non-Fiction, March: Fiction). I do admit this is a bit confusing
3. Organise buddy-reads (unofficial group reads) for non-fiction books.

We also had the idea of doing a 'sub-genre' non-fiction challenge much like the Genre Challenge we currently have (eg. Self-Help, Biography, Cookbook). That way, group reads nominations can have a focus, and we can get through them all.

What do you think of these ideas? How would you like us to set up the group read?

118012 I put mine up from 20 to 50 last year. I'm personally sticking to 100. But there's no issue with changing it :)

118012 Sandy, I'd definitely be interested in doing a buddy read of it!

I am slightly wary of timings too. Especially if The Count of Monte Cristo wins the Classic poll...

118012 I've hardly read any today. Although I have read a good bit about Shakespeare and literature. Really interesting :D

118012 There's too many that I want to read. But then I'm concerned about getting to 100, which means avoiding the chunksters.

118012 Day 2 - 18th Jan

There was some really odd episodes today. I've put post-it notes where each of the 18 'episodes' starts, so I know where I am. Currently half way through Episode 8, which is rather weird. Not 100% into it yet, still expecting it to all make sense. But then I remember: It's Ulysses. It's not meant to make total sense.

118012 I'm really tempted to read The Other Boleyn Girl. Has anyone read both that and the White Queen? I'm just not sure if I'll like the era it's set in.

118012 This is a place to discuss those big books that are very daunting and make our bags feel like they're full of bricks!

I'm currently attempting Ulysses. Around 200 pages in, which leaves 700 left.. Half of the time, I'm not sure what's going on, but I'm not disliking it.

118012 Just anything that is abnormally long. It's a subjective view. I'll set up the thread :)

118012 Perhaps we should create a 'Chunksters' thread. I know I want to read at least 5 this year.

I'd definitely be interested in doing a readalong of it though!

118012 Narin, I personally enjoyed The Da-Vinci Code and Digital Fortress. Really readable books.

118012 Crime and Punishment and To Kill A Mockingbird are two of my all time favourite books! I hope you enjoy them!

118012 Thank you! I think it's a great idea for large books, or even really complex shorter ones.

So far, I admit I'm not understanding all of it. But there are some beautiful passages!

118012 I know. I'm slightly worried about my sanity!
