10067 Hi, readers and writers of clean romance! Remember the fun giveaways we've had in the past? It's time again. We now have over 350 members in our group, all with one thing in common: We like clean romances. To celebrate the imminent arrival of 400 members, we want to give away some clean romances. If you want to get in on this amazing opportunity to promote your work or the work of your favorite authors, volunteer here. We will be taking "donations" until we reach 400 members. At that time, this thread will be closed and the entry thread will be opened.

When offering a prize, please remember to:

1. Include title and author (even if it's you)
2. Designate format (paperback, eBook, audio, etc.)
3. Desired winner location (USA, Canada, UK, International, etc.)

Anything I've forgotten to mention, please ask. Remember, we're not doing this giveaway until we have 400 members, so invite your friends!

10067 Hi everyone!

I've been thinking a lot about book covers lately (probably because I LOVE my most recent one). They are an essential part of a book, even an eBook. It's the first thing a person sees (usually) and they begin to form their impression of the book from there. Whether we want to or not, we all begin to judge a book by its cover.

As a reader:
What do you like to see?
How much is too much?
People or no people?
Literal or symbolic?

As an author:
Do you prefer a literal representation of your novel or something more symbolic?
Do you prefer people or objects?
Do you get a say in your cover? If so, how much?

I'd love to have your opinions. :o)
10067 I read the letter from Heléne to Siri and you did such a fabulous job! I felt like I was in the room with her as she wrote. Very surreal.
10067 Brilliant idea, Joyce! I started following sometime last night when I saw your post on facebook. :o)

10067 I've only read a few GH books. I really liked Devil's Cub.

10067 Haha, Joyce! I'm tickled you're anxious to read Deception. If I remember correctly, you won a copy about a year ago in a blog contest I held...I'll have to ask my publisher to send you one. ;o)

J, if you like a more comedic slant to your books, I highly recommend Marion Chesney's Regencies. (She currently writes mysteries as MC Beaton but I've never read them.) Her older Regencies are some of my favorite, lighthearted reads.

Patricia Veryan wrote Georgians and Regencies for many years and they are amusing at times, deep, emotional, entertaining novels.

10067 Well, I'm sorry I missed your original post, J Kinsey, but I'm here now...always late...

Welcome to the group! Like Joyce said, we have a variety of great books on our shelf. If you like a historical setting, I highly recommend Joyce's books (my multi-talented fellow moderator). She weaves romance, mystery and adventure into a stunning medieval backdrop. :o)

10067 I agree, that does sound like a great story. I wish I knew what it was. Is it historical or contemporary?
10067 Hi Farida! I LOVE your sketches! Very pretty. I want to hire you to sketch my characters, LOL. :o)

10067 I shied away from LT when I realized they only allowed up to 200 books on the free account. I pretty much stayed with GR after that although I do have a Shelfari account that, like Joyce, I try to keep updated. (I'm way behind on that at the moment.) I think GR, for the most part, is a friendlier place so I stick with it. I like GR's shelving system but I like the fancier look of Shelfari.

10067 Aubrey wrote: "No problem! It was a good story! Are you entering it into a competition?"

Kind of. I am submitting it to an anthology project. Mostly, it was a writing exercise to see if I can handle "light" and contemporary. (I have a tendency to write really dark, somewhat disturbing Regency romances.) I'm thrilled that so many liked the story. :o)

10067 Thank you, everybody, for your help and support. I have enough to work with now so I will be closing this thread to new volunteers.

Thank you again and have a lovely day! :o)

I just read your comments and you had some really great ones. I will definitely be making a few changes since there were a couple things that more than one reader mentioned was confusing.

Thank you so much for taking the time to critique my story. I really appreciate it. :o)

10067 Hi, Wendy! I'm so glad you joined!

As for the welcome thread issue...I hadn't really thought about it. Some join and jump on someone else's thread and some start their own. Either way is fine but if everyone thinks one thread is a better idea, we can do that. :o)

10067 Angela and Aubrey, thank you for volunteering. The file has been sent to each of you. :o)
