10067 Welcome to the group! Make yourself at home and be sure to add your clean romances to the group shelf (if you haven't already). :o)

Books for Mom (9 new)
Oct 06, 2010 06:25AM

10067 My mom really enjoys Anne Perry's mysteries, which are set in Victorian England. They are really easy to find, as they are constantly being reprinted. The Cater Street Hangman is the first in her Thomas and Charlotte Pitt series.

She also loves Dick Francis, whose books are also easy to find. He wrote mysteries centered around the horse track. They're really good.

As for romance authors, I always recommend Patricia Veryan to people. Her books are a little harder to find (some are almost impossible) but they're so enjoyable, squeaky clean, full of history, and feature really likable characters.

10067 Two copies of my newest Regency romance, Deception, are up for grabs in a Goodreads Giveaway. If you're interested, you can enter right from the book page. :o)

Deception by Jaimey Grant
10067 That really stinks. I'm sorry that happened to you, Arch. What a frightening thing to lose everything one has put into a blog. I'll be looking into what I can do to save mine before this happens. Those of us with blogs specifically for furthering our book sales can probably expect to be accused of spamming at some point. :o(

Thanx for sharing this with us.

I will try emailing her myself to let her know. :o)

I did and I passed it on to my publisher. I will check to make sure the book's been sent and when it was. :o)

10067 Oops! Sorry about that. I should have closed this thread down a long time ago. Doing it...now! :o)

Oh, I know what you mean. I've gotten odd looks from my in-laws because of the traditional Regencies I used to carry around with me everywhere. They assumed if it had a man and a woman on the cover, no matter how well dressed, it was a smutty novel. I always told them it was a smutty novel--which never failed to make them laugh.

Not a problem in my mom's house; she's the one who got me started on traditional Regencies.

10067 Follow-up question (one being discussed right now on my facebook page):

What colors do you like on a cover? Is there a particular color that you shy away from?

Hi Mary,

It's called Clean Reads and you can get to it by clicking this link:

10067 Have all the sponsors heard from their winners? Or vice versa?

10067 Tammy wrote: "How is this group different than the one we already have?"

While we focus on the romances, they include all genres, from what I understand. I thought it might be helpful for those who are looking for books that aren't primarily romance. :o)

10067 I stumbled across another Goodreads group today that may be of interest to this group. They currently have just over 250 members. I'm sure many of you are already members but I thought I'd share it here for those who don't know the group exists. :o)

Clean Reads

"This is a group for people who love to read a good book, but don't want to have to put it down one chapter in because of things that, if it were a movie, would make it R-rated (or even a racy PG-13). Since no such rating system exists for books, we help each other with our Clean Read recommendations."
