Hi, Vicki! Sharon Cathcart pointed me in the direction of your new website and my jaw dropped when I realized you must not have stumbled across this group yet. So I sent you an invite. I'm so glad you joined. :o)
I would love to be a "Jane" but I was wondering what kind of info should be included in the email asking to join. Just a request with author name and books titles or the full description of each book with cover pics and whatnot?

Sounds good to me. I noticed we hit the 150 mark yesterday and was so excited. It's great!!

I'm so glad it worked out for you, MM! :o)

Welcome to the group, Arch! :o)

What a fun interview, Rachel! I enjoyed it immensely. :o)

Sounds good, Joyce. It's pointless to keep a thread that is expired, especially if there are no conversational points within. I meant to do this a while ago and forgot. Sorry.
:o)
Miss wrote: "I'm going to check into that Willy Walt, because I did look over that article with making the postcard that way. Appeared to be a lot of hard work! And I'm not keen on Vista Print charging to uploa..."The most I've ever paid for an upload at VistaPrint was $2.49. I probably get 1-2 emails per day and usually one per week offers free or half-price uploads. Of course, I've ordered so much stuff from them that they'll never leave me alone. LOL
My last VistaPrint order included 50 oversized postcards that were then cut into 250 bookmarks; 100 regular postcards that were cut into 200 bookmarks; 1 keychain; 1 pen; 25 business card magnets; and 250 business cards. Every item had an image upload. My total cost was $10.45. Making bookmarks this way is a lot of work but when every penny counts... :o)

Thank you, Joyce, but I can't take the credit for postcard-bookmarks. I never would have thought of it if not for Ryoma. :o)
The link I mentioned above works today. It is very detailed in how to get great looking bookmarks for next to nothing. I encourage everyone to check it out.

I get mine from VistaPrint. It's a little more work--but a lot less money--to use them. I designed a regular (4x6) postcard that was actually two bookmarks side-by-side. When I got them, I just cut them apart with my nifty paper cutter.

There is an excellent article about it on redroom, written by Ryoma Collia-Suzuki, that explains it beautifully.
Here's the link, but I couldn't get it to work a little bit ago...

Welcome to the group, Anne! :o)

Welcome, Jeannette!

Now that sounds like fun! I could get on board with a book signing like that. :o)
Thanx, Diane!

Thanx, Gina! I wondered how long it would be before you shared your experiences with us. I have seen the pics on facebook and heard all the lovely tales of your book signing adventures. If they could all be like that for everyone, I wouldn't worry so much about it.
Now, where's Joyce with her two cents on this issue...? ;o)

Thank you, Tammy! That was exactly the type of answer I was looking for. An honest opinion that I can mull over. (And thank you for buying my books. I am sincerely grateful.) :o)
Anyone else want to weigh in here?

I was really hoping this thread would take off. I am desperate for info on this subject. I suffer from severe shyness issues and working up the nerve to do a signing is quite an ordeal. If it is not something that
1) brings a substantial return to the author
OR 2) brings substantial joy to the reader
then I can't see the benefit to either party. It needs to do one of these two things to be of use, in my opinion. I realize exposure is important. But is this really the only benefit of a signing?
So, readers, do you like book signings?
And, authors, do you enjoy them?

I thought I'd ask this question here since this group seems to be a nice blending of readers and authors.
Are book signings important?

No, I'm not saying self-published authors are rejects. Far from it, in fact. I'm conducting a poll on the subject on my blog. There have been some great comments on the topic as well.
The question I'm asking is: Do you assume self-published authors have been rejected by "real" publishers?

LOL!

But you post it in such an entertaining way! :oP

I am eagerly awaiting the day when I get a nasty review on Amazon because someone bought one of my books thinking it was an ordinary historical romance and they were disappointed. My whole goal was to write a deeply emotional novel that didn't rely on sex to build the emotion. (Did any of that make sense, or only to me? My head is pounding and that makes forming sentences rather difficult...) Ugh.
I agree and I know all my relatives would as well: books need a rating system. And yes, Joyce, you are probably right.
