8 Book Characters You Wish Could Run for President

Posted by Hayley on November 5, 2016

Election season is almost over in America. Whether you're helping to choose our 45th president or not (hello, reader friends from other countries!), we invite you to take a brief step away from the world of actual politics and enter the world of fictional politics.

We asked on Facebook and Twitter: If you could nominate a fictional book character as president, who would you pick? Your top answers are below. Who would get your vote?

GANDALF
The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien

Potential running mates: Galadriel, Frodo Baggins, Treebeard, Dumbledore (magical crossover edition)

ATTICUS FINCH

That failing Empress Elizabeth III of Manticore and her Prime Minister William Alexander, Baron Grantville (Honor Harrington Series) would do a wonderful job!

They're doing a fantastic job with an empire. It stands to reason that they'd excel at running the US.

Freyja Elizabeth wrote: "Lazarus Long with Dora as VP. Or maybe Eve Dallas and Peabody. Both of those slates have good balance of bad*ss and compassion."

Lazarus would hate to be the chief executive. He'd do as little as possible. Which might not be a bad thing.

Tiffany Definitely Gandalf. He always knows what's going on in the world. I'd pick Sam for his running mate though, someone a bit more down to earth. And Sam was mayor of the Shire forever after Frodo left Middle Earth.

Not a book, but another choice would be Princess Leia. If she were a real person, I would absolutely vote for her. For a running mate, I'd want Obi-Wan Kenobi, but he hates politics so maybe Yoda or R2-D2.

If he really is as horrible as they say, It's a vote for Hermione."

You would not like the Atticus Finch of Go Set a Watchman. I read it and later wished I had not done that. Just stick with To Kill a Mockingbird.

As entertaining as I'm sure that would be, No.

Why are you posting about Trump at all in reply to my post about a Leia Organa Solo / Gilad Pellaeon ticket?

message 348: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Not to mention raising the specter of being booted from GR. Re: "As entertaining as I'm sure that would be, No." As for why I posted about Trump in reply to your post in particular? I think yours was just the first post I hadn't read yet.
