Want to Read More This Year? Join the 2015 Reading Challenge!

Posted by Jessica on January 1, 2015

Goodbye 2014, and hello 2015! Is "read more books" on your New Year's resolution list? You can create a goal and track your progress with the 2015 Reading Challenge on Goodreads!

Your goal can be as big or small as you choose. Maybe you're aiming to read a book every other month, or maybe you know you can speed through a book a week...it's completely up to you! Pick a number, any number, and you're on your way.

If you're not sure what to read next, we've got you covered. There are lots of ways to find books on Goodreads, and millions of book lovers are sharing their latest discoveries every day. A great way to get started is to rate books you've already read to get recommendations tailored just for you. The more books you rate, the better your recommendations will be!

You can also find inspiration in one of the thousands of reading groups on Goodreads—including many groups that host reading challenges themed to a certain genre, favorite author, or interesting topic. And don't forget you can browse the book-list bonanza of Listopia, cross your fingers and enter a book giveaway, and check out the recently announced winners and runners-up of the Goodreads Choice Awards!

Now in its fifth year, the Goodreads Reading Challenge continues to grow. In 2014, Goodreads members' collective reading goals surpassed 35 million books—what records will 2015 break?

What is your reading goal? Tell us in the comments!

Robyn Even though I've added books to my read 2015 shelf, they don't seem to be picked up by the Challenge. It keeps telling me I've only read 1 book and yet I've read more than that. Is there a step I'm missing?

Make sure the "date read" is showing a date in 2015. If you don't set a date, it will not count as a part of your challenge.

THANK YOU! I knew I'd seen a widgets page before, but couldn't find it for the life of me! Was obviously not looking in the right places.

Check the date read as it needs to be a date in 2015 to be picked up and for reason it doesn't always log the date correctly ( I find that happens if I log as reading and read on same day)

Kayla I'm feeling a bit off because I have added a lot of comics to my reading challenge. I'm happy to read them, but it kind of feels like I'm cheating xD

Gemma Bishop Question... when you achieve your goal, can you extend it?

Diana Montes Gemma wrote: "Question... when you achieve your goal, can you extend it?"

you can continue reading and it marks you as an overachiever... or you can edit the number of books you want to read if the challenge is not closed yet.

Personally, I prefer keeping my goal where I originally set it, and watching it disappear in my rear-view mirror as I surpass it.

Haha, nice. I just ask because I set my goal pretty low this year and am already over half-way through it. Was trying to decide if I should extend or achieve my goal and then extend. Will do the latter ...

Remember, things vary from year to year. For instance, in 2013, I made my goal with only a few hours to go, thanks in part to a book that literally took me all year to read. Then in 2014, I had the same goal (40 books), and I went on a reading binge, and ended up reading 136 books -- 340% of my goal. My advice is to use your own judgement, and adjust accordingly.
