Marianna This year I lowered my new books read because I want to delve into my favorites I have already have before college. Some books deserve a second look.

Sivanandam MY AIM IS TO READ PONNIYIN SELVAN TAMIL BOOK. I LEARNED LOT FROM THIS SITE SO FAR I EVER COMPLETE ONE BOOK NOW MY CHALLENGE IS I HAVE TO READ LOT BOOKS

message 203: by Synnie (new)

Synnie Last year I read 80. This year I set my goal as 50. I started college in September and I barely had reading time. I'm also partaking in the Shelf Love Challenge (less book buying and more reading what you already own but haven't got to yet), my goal for this year is to read 50 books that I already own. I set my Goodreads goal to match that.

message 204: by Chris (new)

Chris I am aiming for 30 books which is 2.5 books a month. Most of the books I have been reading has been an average of 300 pages. If I read all the books that were recommended to me plus some of the group reads I should be able to make it. Keeping my fingers crossed.

message 205: by Azri (new)

Azri al-fateh My goal is to read more than last year. It's no matter how many books to read , It's depend on the knowledge that you get from.I wish to read more than I am challenging myself to.

Here we start the challenge,

Looking forward to achieving this year's target inshallah

☠︎︎༒︎✞︎ ѕℓιм ☠︎︎༒︎✞︎ I'm planning on reading 200 books this year . In 2014 managed to read 111 out of 100 books .

message 208: by RJET (last edited Jan 02, 2015 07:33PM) (new)

RJET This year I want to challenge myself to go back to reading classics/canon books. I only set 30 books this year because I want to make time for each book that I'm going to read. I've been reading a lot of YA and SF last year so this year will be a real challenge for me. Good luck to all who took the challenge! Let's do this. :D

I'd also love it if you recommend some of your favorite classics/canon books. I'm starting with Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote

message 209: by Zee (new)

Zee My goal for 2015 is to finish off some of the books I bought over the past few years. I have the bad habit of buying more books than I can read, so I'm not going to allow myself to buy any more until at least half of the books of my Unread pile are finished (I currently have about 60)

Mercurialgem Judy wrote: "I plan to read at least 50 books this year - including the Bible."

That's good for you. When I was a child I (for some reason ) tried reading the bible (by myself) and it did some psychological damage for awhile but now I am more open to it, however, I still hold back from it. Perhaps a book that explains to me things would be better than the real deal.

message 211: by Judy (new)

Judy My goal is to read at least 30 books this year. Often I fall out of the reading habit for a period of time, and then jump back in when I find a book that I find motivating. So part of my goal is to keep a book going throughout 2015.

message 212: by June (new)

June I'm going to read 10 books this year. Who knows by the end of the year that number will triple.

message 213: by Jeanny (last edited Jan 02, 2015 08:48PM) (new)

Jeanny My 2013 Reading Challenge was 100 books. I exceeded that goal by 25% (125).
My 2014 Reading Challenge was 200 books. I exceeded that goal by 27% (253).
2015 may be the stagnant year. iMy reading challenge is staying at 200 books. Instead of numbers I'm going to concentrate on finishing series i've already started & completing my TBR list. I'm going into a new year with more than 20 ebooks already purchased sitting on my cloud waiting to be read. I don't want to waste that money. I need to get on that & if my numbers suffer oh well.

Neat. Here it is in only slightly edited Google translation:

1. A genre that no one reads (or even better, you've never read ).
2. A book published by a small independent publisher.
3. A classic every intellectual is supposed to have read (but in fact you have not yet read).
4. A book you have’t read yet, by one of your favorite writers
5. A book written by a woman before 1900.
6. A book written in a language with fewer than one million speakers.
7. A book that takes place in Africa.
8. A book that takes place in Asia.
9. A book that takes place in your city / region.
10. A book published this year (2015 ).
11. A book written by someone when he or she was not yet 25 years old.
12. A book of twenty-first century Spanish literature.
13. A book that has won a grand prize in the last 10 years.
14. A book whose protagonists are not humans.
15. A book by an author who was born the same day as you.
16. A book based on a true story.
17. A book of over 500 pages.
18. A renowned author's first book
19. A book randomly chosen for the cover and before reading the back cover (and without knowing in advance the author!)
20. A YA book or children's literature.
21. A book by a self-published author.
22. A forgotten classic.
23. A book about books.
24. A book you have in your house that you have not yet read.

xotic3 2014 got me back on track with my reading and I loved that! For this year , I plan on getting the unread books in my current library read, and I plan on broadening my reading taste and go for something different . Last year I went for mystery and the Frieda Klein series excited me ! This year I'll have to see what's out there and give it a shot. At the moment my goal is to read all the books written by Mitch Albom because he's gotten into my favorite writers list after reading " The five people you meet in heaven" and I can't get enough of him. As for my challenge , it's going to be higher than 2014 !

Hmmmm.........interesting. Sounds like fun too. Wish there was a way to put the list in my profile and check off as I accomplish them.

message 218: by Leslie (new)

Leslie I'm completely confident in my 100 books in 2015 goal {as this is a common occurrence}, but where I'm afraid of tripping up is that I was planning on rereading some favourite series as part of that 100. Not terribly sure that this challenge will let me do that--if not, I'll drop the goal to 75 instead. Either way, very much looking forward to cataloguing progress; the challenge is a nifty idea and I'm sorry I missed out on it last year! Good luck, everybody!

message 219: by John (new)

John Reid My goal is to read 3 books a week each (averaging 300-500 pages) and to try and break the 150 book a year mark. I also have a book-list for each of my genres to direct this perusal, including a set of classics, science-fiction books, contemporary fiction and fantasy.

message 220: by Adym (new)

Adym Charonda I never make target of reading, no plans, no goals. I just love to read. but why not if i try to challenge myself this year

message 221: by Paridhi (new)

Paridhi Sharma i would be reading all sorts and genres of books this year.......... want to go beyond my comfort zone it will be quite exciting , at least 40 books this year.............

message 222: by Sachin (new)

Sachin Ganpat I didn't meet my goal last year (short by 7) but I want to read more this year. I want to make reading a priority this year. Want to improve my reading speed, and read more fiction this year.

All the best to everyone on their goals for 2015.

message 223: by Ds (new)

Ds 100 this year. Hoping that I'll have the time to do it (but so far, it looks like I will unfortunately).

message 224: by Vishal (new)

Vishal Singh i am new to reading. i only have 15-20 books in my credentials over last few years, most of them are famous fantasy fictions. so, i guess doubling the number in my bookshelf by the end of the year would be enough for a fresh start.

message 225: by Wailani (new)

Wailani I set myself a goal to read 20 books this year. I'm not good reader but I want to change that.

Zee, I know where youre coming from. I have bought so many books over the years that ive yet to read. My problem is, so many of the ones I got I no longer care to read. My tastes have changed since. Its gonna be a real challenge to empty my bookshelf. Good luck on yours.

Dianne, I read the trilogy twice, yes twice, but its been over a couple decades ago back before hs. I loved it then, loved the movies, but im not sure I could hang with it now. May try it again just to see though. Wish you well with it, its a behemoth.

message 231: by يُمنَى (last edited Jan 03, 2015 07:38AM) (new)

يُمنَى This year I intend to fill it with more books. Although last year I ended up filling the rest of the remained un-read 19 books in the challenge with volumes of manga x'D
Now, I'm like emptying up the desk for more of the real books, both of this years' and the remains of last years' unread.
Last year I went for 54 books, number of books I bought that year, now I'm setting it to 65, with some adds to my typical reading categories. More as: self-help & biography books.

message 232: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Quality vs. quantity...the same for me. I met my goal of 400 books in 2014, but found that I was racing through them just to meet the goal. Sometimes (most times), books and reading are to be savored. I found I wasn't doing that. I finished a book and immediately picked up a new one without reflecting on the one I just read. So, it is only 200 books for me this year (however, my total probably will go over 200). Puts less pressure on the means to an end.

I like that Mitsli. I wish goodreads would allow us to set our goal related to the number of pages instead of books.

message 235: by Esmat (new)

Esmat Esmaeili I want to read a new book every month in 2015

message 236: by Nausheen (new)

message 237: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Stein I had a terrible reading year in 2014 so I'm setting my 2015 sights low with 15 books, just over 1 a month. I already have about a third of the books picked out too!

message 238: by Jeri (new)

Jeri Hear the message, Goodreads--it would be great to be able to track page count as well as mere # of books! : )

my goal 4 ds year is to read 50 books ov persain nd urdu literature..inshaALLAH

message 240: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Nieman I set the same goal of reading 50 books for 2015. I came in at just 50 for 2014, so I know that I can accomplish this goal; however, I am going to be reading more non-fiction this year. I have started grad school and would like to read some relevant books in my course of study, so including these works will be relevant to this year's challenge. I will still be paying a lot of respect to my love of fiction, though. Happy reading in 2015 everyone :)

message 241: by Amy (new)

Amy Mckee This will be my first year actually taking goodreads seriously, i also have my exams this year so I have to keep my challenge at a modest 25, though after my exams I might be able to read more and extend my challenge who knows! Just gonna wait and see what the year brings....

message 243: by Laura (new)

Me too.

message 245: by Anissa (new)

Anissa Boukra i want to read fewer books, because i really want to start reading classics. And we all know you can't fly through a classic. it'll take way longer to finish a classic then a YA book so i'm lowering my reading challenge from 25 to 20 books

message 246: by Mathew (new)

Mathew Carruthers Last year I set my challenge at 55 books, an incremental increase over the previous year, but well within my ability to achieve the goal. I had to keep raising the bar and finished the year with 150+ books read. I think the key to reading a lot is not only to do it frequently, but read about what interests you. So this year, I'm jumping into the deep end and setting my goal at 100.

message 247: by MiKayla (new)

MiKayla My reading goal for 2015 is 52 books which would mean one for every week. I also plan to get most of my to-read books read. Since I started working at a library I think reading more will be a lot easier.

message 248: by Lia (new)

Lia Butarbutar I'll keep this year just like my last 10 years, I'll be reading Agatha Christie on every even month, and other books on every odd month. I'd like to finish the "A Series of Unfortunate Events", I already own 3 of them, since there are 6 odd months, means that I will only read 6 more this year, and the rest 4 will have to wait until 2016

message 249: by Louise (new)

Louise Droz My thoughts exactly! I pledge to add more non fiction,to give myself permission to not finish a book if I don't like a book, and remember that reading should be enjoyable!

message 250: by chloe (new)

chloe I want to read more graphic novels and mangas this year.. My goal for 2014 was read 65 but I only read 54 so this year I want to read between 52-65 books. :)
