Cathy My reading goal for 2015 is going to be 24 books (2 per month). When I add this extra reading into the reading that I do as an English teacher, it should be plenty.

I suggest Tom jones by fielding. I'm reading it now and really enjoying it AND it's more than 700 pages!

Jana Mikkel Some great ideas and motivation for this year ahead.

message 154: by Mandi (new)

Mandi In 2014, my reading goal was 100 books; however, I never really set myself up to actually complete that goal. I ended up having 34 books read. This year, my goal may still be a bit lofty as I've set it at 52 books. I've read short and long books, and while I like to idea of cumulative pages, I want to read books that captivate and transport me into their world, even if it's a biography or history. The most important part to me is simple: allowing myself time to read.

message 155: by Husam (new)

Husam Alshloul I started reading in 2014, I challenged myself to 20 books, and completeed them on Dec. 30th

This year I'm aiming for 35 :D

message 156: by Caro (new)

Caro I decide to keep my same goal of 50. In 2014 I read a few more than expected but also a lot of the books where very short and easy reading. So it was not that difficult to make it. These year I will try to balance that more and to read some more complex and longer books so I will have an interesting combination between short easy onces and the complex ones. Also I decide to participate in several challenge that will push me more to explore different books.

message 157: by Leona (new)

Leona I did not make my goal in 2014 but will still try for a goal of 50 books for 2015. I want to read some I have on my Kindle.

message 158: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Crowell I would like to separate my personal challenge into non-fiction, fiction and books on my to-read list--wish there was a way to do this!

message 159: by RC (new)

RC 2015: I want to make time to read again. I have a library of books and read bits and bites from them now and them. I want to allow myself the luxury of delving into books again.

If I only read one book from start to finish in 2015, I will be ecstatic. If I happen to finish one of many books that I have started, I will be pleased with that too.

I love reading but somewhere it became a luxury I don't afford myself. I know I am missing so much.

Karen I used to read many books in one year, but lately I have had trouble finishing even one book. This year will be different though. I am pledging to read 10 books and would also like to read through the whole Bible in 2015. I didn't think I would like digital books too much but I have downloaded several and like the way I can carry a whole library with me anywhere on my iPad. I think this will help me to achieve my goal of 10 books. The one book I finished last year was Jennifer's Way by Jennifer Esposito and I highly recommend it. I read through the whole book in just two weeks.

message 162: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Gorry I want to continue to read more but I am continuing this year with the challenge I set myself last year which was to include a classic or a piece of non fiction every month too

message 163: by Krystal (new)

Krystal Is there specific generes we have to read or just reach or goal?

message 164: by B (new)

B Moignard I'm not sure about setting a number. I read about 100 last year and to be honest two or three a week seems to suit me. I still enjoy re-reading old and new favourites. Over Christmas I re-read Shades of Grey and The Martian, the latter I had only read earlier in 2014. I want to read some of the 'classics' which I have somehow missed. But I really enjoy trying someone new, especially first-time authors. Happy reading!

message 165: by Paloma (new)

Paloma Rodrigues In 2014 my challeng was 50 books, and I read 51 books in the end. I'm very proud with me.Then in 2015 I hope to be able to read 10 books more than I read in the last year. Good luck for me!!! And good luck to all other members..

message 166: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Gorry Krystal wrote: "Is there specific generes we have to read or just reach or goal?"

No specific genres unless you want to set one for yourself - it's just a case of reaching a target goal to encourage more reading

message 167: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey It's going to be really hard to top my 2014 reading numbers for 2015. Last year I resolved to demolish my next highest "score" in terms of books/Pages read for the year (which was 49 books and approximately ~ 19000 pages). For 2014 I hit 80 books and ~28000 pages, so that's going to be a tough one to top.

There isn't much non-fiction in that scramble though, so maybe for 2015 I'll try for at least one non-fiction a month, and attempt to limit to about one book per week, so I can actually accomplish other things!

Yes, I would prefer to count pages more than books... I had some 800er last year...

message 169: by Becky (last edited Jan 02, 2015 09:18AM) (new)

Becky Holmes I've just pledged to read 35 books in 2015. After many years of reading over 52 books a year, the last few years have really been bad; in 2014 I only read 25 books. I blame it on all the good TV shows that you can binge watch on Netflix. However, this year I want to head back up to my old neighborhood so I've pledged to read 35 books. I plan to accomplish this by listening to more audiobooks.

message 170: by Ajayi (new)

Ajayi Peter I want to read at least a book a month.

message 171: by Del (new)

Del Although I made my goal of 50 books in 2014, I couldn't record it on the computer because the computer broke down and it was not available till now. I will challenge myself to 50 again for 2015.

message 172: by Melanie (new)

Melanie Robertson-King I'd like to include the 2015 reading challenge widget on my blog, too. I hope there is one in the works.

message 173: by Margo (new)

Margo So in Goodreads can I set a goal to number of pages instead of number of books? I hit my goal of 100 books read but some of those were short to off set reading The Goldfinch. Doesn't seem right that Goldfinch counts the same As Where the Wild Things Are.

message 174: by Carlos (new)

Carlos I've been declining with my reading over the past three years. Last year I only finished 15 books, the previous year I only finished 20. Now that I've bought a Kobo E-reader, I've got plenty of reads from the Kobo & Amazon library for 2015. It's a resolution I look forward to keeping.

Carlos Melanie wrote: "I'd like to include the 2015 reading challenge widget on my blog, too. I hope there is one in the works."

I'm hoping that feature is available for bloggers, too.

message 176: by Tracy (new)

Tracy I exceeded my first challenge of 40 books this year with some real variety - everything from The Goldfinch to Greek mythology to history and biography. This year, I am notching back my challenge to allow myself the luxury of not having to worry about compensating for the "long reads" like The Goldfinch with shorter books (although I have a required read for a work mentoring group that clocks in at 126 pages with acknowledgement and appendices.) Sometimes I felt like I was racing to complete my challenge - and that's missing the point, which for me is to consciously decide to spend more time reading - and reading books that will be thought-provoking and memorable. 30 books seems just about right.

message 177: by Tina (new)

Tina Well, las year I read about 100 books, mostly fiction and romance. This year I want to get out of y comfort zone but keep reading the types of books I love, so the goal for this year is 300 and I hope I can get it and don't be stuck up with school stuff! So here we go...

message 178: by Richard (last edited Jan 02, 2015 10:52AM) (new)

Richard Buro I have 36 Sci-Fi / Fantasy books committed, and I am going to challenge myself to read another 14 here for a total of 50 this year. I am choosing several longer books this year so I am setting my overall total lower than the 55 of last year. Hopefully I can make this work into my 2015 commitment list. Looking forward to another year of reading for the pleasure of it.

message 179: by MaddyLeeReads (new)

MaddyLeeReads I never done this challenge before but I am just planning on reading at least twenty-five books. I chose this number because not only do I want to know that I read twenty-five books and slowly increase the number for the challenge year by year, but also have enough time for writing.

message 180: by Fab (new)

Fab If you count school books I read way more than 500 ;)

message 181: by Luffy Sempai (last edited Jan 02, 2015 12:23PM) (new)

Luffy Sempai Reading some of the posts here made me realize that I have no new stuff to say. Everything has been said already. I'm trying to moonlight as a fantasy fan. Till now I've read a few pages of a much lauded and - right on this site - very well rated fantasy book. Meh. But we'll see. The next few weeks will be make or break for me.

I didn't mention that my favorite genre till recently has been the cozy mystery genre. I would have focused on cozies had the rate of disappointing books not needled me. I've wondered whether other genres hold more rewards, hence me enlisting as a fantasy reader. I have no intent to continue wander in the desert in search for all genres. I'm going to avoid horror novels, and many authors too (John LeCarre, Stephen King, Nicholas Sparks spring to mind). I will scurry back to my favorite thriller and historical fiction authors if my little experiment proves to be redundant, futile, fruitless, if not in vain.

message 182: by Tabitha (new)

Tabitha I want to read 25 books this year

message 183: by [deleted user] (new)

My goal is to stop forcing myself to read certain books, and instead indulge in favourites and stuff I know I'll love.

message 184: by Emily (new)

Emily I love reading, but up until recently I have not had much time to read. So, although this may seem extremely low to most avid readers, my goal for 2015 is 50 books, in 2014 I only read 20, so it's a challenge for me and hopefully I will read far more than 50 but 50 is my goal!

message 185: by Fab (new)

Fab I wrote 1200 books it may seem REALLY NOT PRACTICAL at all but trust me knowing me it is possible... last year my mother and I tracked how many books we read during the year, she read 1007 and I read 850, so 1200 shouldn't be much of a stretch, I read daily it's a serious hobby of mine and trust me these books aren't short... this is coming from the person who read the last Harry Potter book in one day and then wrote a book report for school on it and got and A

Wow!! I'm seriously impressed! I can't even imagine reading 300 books in a year. My brain would explode! Isn't it hard to absorb what you're reading? I like to leave a day between finishing one and starting another to, for one thing, keep all of the stories separate and to appreciate what I just read. I admit, I'm a little weird and sometimes it takes me a while to finish thinking about something. I'm setting my goal at 30 and hopefully I'll exceed it!Have a happy new year!

message 190: by J. (new)

J. Ewbank I read more books in 2014 than this, but plan to write another book on John Wesley's theology this year so it may be more difficult to read the 200 plus that I read in 2014. One hundred seems like a good number for me this year.

Good luck to all.

I only joined yesterday but if comics and picture books count I don't know why audiobooks wouldn't. That's how I do most of my reading now.

message 192: by Mark (new)

Mark Seeley This year I plan to read some old stuff that has been around for a long time. Anselm, Pascal, Augustine are a few I have on my table right now.

message 193: by Witri (new)

Witri Ana sari I will read 120books in 2015!!

message 194: by Erica (new)

Erica I was really proud of myself for meeting my goal of 50 books last year, but this year I dropped it down to 35 because I'm wanting to looking for more thought-provoking books. This last year I read a lot of fluffy novels and young adult fiction as well as a lot of series. I'm going to step out of that for a bit and look for books that are not a part of the young adult genre (for the most part, there will be a few in there I'm sure) and looking for actually more books that can stand alone versus getting pulled into a series.

message 195: by Poindexter (last edited Jan 02, 2015 02:32PM) (new)

Poindexter Managed 100 books last year, mostly thanks to Audible mind... I'm happy with that but if I can read more, that's good too. I've set my challenge up this year to 150, so we'll see how that goes. I'm pretty sure I can do it seeing as I managed to read 26 books in December alone. :)

message 196: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn I didn't read as much as I should have last year, so my goal is to read many, many books. With ebooks on Kindle and print books, I'd say I'd have at least 800 books to read. So I'm going to make it pretty high this year, as I want to donate a lot of books I don't want anymore.

message 197: by Breanne (new)

Breanne I want to increase not only how many books I read, but the quality of books. I'm giving myself the challenge this year of reading all of those huge books I always thought were beyond me - like Middlemarch, Moby Dick and War and Peace.

message 199: by Ellen (new)

Ellen Oberkotter I would love to say I could slow down my reading and spend more time with each book, but it never works. I start out slowly and carefully, and before I know it I am gobbling them. I devour books at an enormous rate. That said, they are nearly all "entertainment" books, not deep thoughtful ones. I am reading through the mystery section at my local library, and having great fun doing so...an occasional author is so wretched that I skip over the rest of his/her offerings after suffering through two or three, but I have discovered some really good authors this way.

message 200: by Jennie (new)

Jennie I have set a goal of 25 books for 2015! This is approximately two per month, but am hopeful that I will go way past this goal!!! Like many others in these comments, I hope to add some "deeper" reading to my list----even though I love my murder mysteries (both for content and quick reading)!!!
