Your goal can be as big or small as you choose. Maybe you're aiming to read a book every other month, or maybe you know you can speed through a book a week...it's completely up to you! Pick a number, any number, and you're on your way.

If you're not sure what to read next, we've got you covered. There are lots of ways to find books on Goodreads, and millions of book lovers are sharing their latest discoveries every day. A great way to get started is to rate books you've already read to get recommendations tailored just for you. The more books you rate, the better your recommendations will be!

You can also find inspiration in one of the thousands of reading groups on Goodreads—including many groups that host reading challenges themed to a certain genre, favorite author, or interesting topic. And don't forget you can browse the book-list bonanza of Listopia, cross your fingers and enter a book giveaway, and check out the recently announced winners and runners-up of the Goodreads Choice Awards!

Now in its fifth year, the Goodreads Reading Challenge continues to grow. In 2014, Goodreads members' collective reading goals surpassed 35 million books—what records will 2015 break?

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm a speedreader, and I'm more than a little OCD. Give me a few hours to myself, and it's not that hard to read a couple of books in rapid succession.

message 103: by Misty (new)

Misty Clarkson I am aiming for 500 cause I read a lot and usually takes 2 days to go through 1 book

message 104: by Johnny (new)

Johnny Carruthers In 2013, my goal was 40 books. I just barely made it, thanks to a book that literally took all year to read. (I started it on January 9, and didn't finish reading it until just a few hours before midnight on New Year's Eve.)

In 2014, I decided to stick with the same goal -- 40 books. I went on a bit of a reading binge last year. I read 136 books.

I don't think I'm going to be on that much of a reading binge this year. But I am increasing my goal for 2015 -- I'm going for 50 books.

I started my reading for the year right after the stroke of midnight. I'm already in the middle of reading seven different books.

Krystal I love reading and since I'm turning 33 this year, I want to read 33 books. Where is the list of generes to read?

The Stephanie Plum series written by Janet Evanovich is really popular at the library I work at. Every-time I read one of these books I laugh-out-loud!

I want to keep tabs on this one. =) Can't wait to see how close you get to your goal or if you meet it. Good luck and Happy 2015 Reading!

message 108: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa Quality over quantity seems to be the theme this year. Couldn't agree more with that idea. Last year I tried for 100 books and had to cheat my way through it with comics (lowered the challenge to 90something in december). This year I'm going with 25 of what I hope to be very good reads. Maybe I'll raise the bar by the middle of 2015, who knows. The motto this year is: no stressful reading; only pleasure in pages.

message 109: by Mercurialgem (new)

Mercurialgem I just got a thought of something I MIGHT want to try in 2015, which is to read ONE book of a genre that I really haven't tried. For example, romance and YA books are not my thing but maybe I should give it a try. I'll make a list of all the different genres out there and possible books of interest. Hmmm. The thing is I already own so many books that I still haven't read and have a huge wishlist that makes me think this idea would be a waste. Hmmm...........

message 110: by Keonna (new)

Keonna Wattie Well in sixth grade I read 144 chapter books so I'm definitely gonna read more than that this year

I'm embarrassed to say I haven't read this yet, though I know the storyline well. I wish you well in your reading endeavors this year.

message 114: by Danielle (new)

Danielle My goal is to complete more series books. There are a lot of books that I have previously read that are part of a series and didn't start the other books because I got sidetracked by other books.

message 115: by Krystal (new)

Krystal I know I commented but I just want to put my opinion out there. For me I'm just reading the books on both my shelfs at home, bookclub reads and stuff on my goodread shelfs. I don't care how large the books are. The shortest would be just over 200 and the longest would be 400-500 possibly 600, no more than that. Just find books that interest you, not how many pages, don't worry about the genre. Do enjoy the read if you don't make the goal who cares. I've never been able to complete the challenge and I"m fine with that.

message 116: by Maria (last edited Jan 01, 2015 05:36PM) (new)

Maria I was overly ambitious last year, though I still made my goal. I got into book slumps and got really behind, would blow through some manga or picture books to catch up, then slump again. One of the times I had caught up, my mom gave me a box full of picture/kid's books, so I ended up *really* ahead. I actually had to increase my goal a couple of times. But before that I was really stressing out. So I'm going back to a more manageable goal. If I get close to my goal early on, then I can always add a little more. :)

Last year I read 300 (Actually 301, but the last one was a re-read and didn't count...) This year I'm going back to 200. And I'll probably go through a couple long-ish manga series this month, like last year.

Well, I will second the recommendation for the Stephanie Plum series. They are light and funny. The womens murder club books by james patterson are good also. They are mysyery. If you don't mind YA, the percy jackson series, heros of olympus, red prymid series by rick riordan are light easy reads.

HAPPY READINGS!

message 121: by Diana (new)

Diana Montes I am setting the same goal that I had for 2014... 25 books... keeping it real. I just read what I love... some stories are more engaging than others, and love long books as well as short ones... so I am not really concerned about page number or being classics or new releases... I just enjoy reading.

message 122: by Patrick (new)

Patrick McCartney I am doing a slightly different challenge this year. Because I have a daughter, job, wife, and 3 other additional interests (Chess, Bridge, and Fantasy Sports, all of which I play in competitive, organized events), and because what I read tends to be a mix of Novels and Novellas, rather than basing what I read on my goal of a book count and the time remaining for the rest of the year, my goal is a page count. Legal stuff, like copyright info, and lists of other books by the author won't count. "Part 1" pages will. Advertising in the back or about the author pages won't. So, for example, my first book of the year, "Tumor Fruit", starts on page 9 and goes to page 291, so this will count at 283 pages.

My goal for 2015 will be 7500 pages.

message 123: by Zoey (new)

Zoey My goal last year was to read 50 books but I definitely beat that with 77 books! I think for 2015 I'm going to attempt to read 70 books to see if i am able to keep up with my reading this year!

I have a question. These are books that we actually read, right? Not audio on the way home from work? I don't think I could read 100 books in a year! Maybe 30.

Great historical fiction - Drood by Dan Simmons, Hild by Nicola Griffith (came out in 2014, sequel IS being written), AND to meet the demands of both fantasy and historical fiction - The Witch's Daughter by Paula Brackston. There are currently 3 books that she has out in the vein of fantasy mixed w/historical fiction. All written with a beautiful selection of vocabulary and completely different settings & feelings.

I have reviews for all books I recommended except Drood because I read it before I started using Goodreads. Hope they help!

Good luck on your challenge!!

Abeer AlRasbi 2014, was the year I got back to reading Arabic books again, which I am so happy to read. Also, it is the year that I got back to proper reading. i managed to read 20 books (19 Arabic and only 1 English)- all novels.

This year I am planning to keep the same number, with more variation and depth in the books' themes and also longer in pages

I post reviews for all books after I read them, and sometimes I recommend the books that I enjoy the most

Looking forward to achieving this year's target inshallah

message 139: by Jessica (new)

Jessica I created a group (2015 Reading Challenge) and it has a different topic every week for the entire year. So everyone in my group should have at least 52 books in their challenge! Right now my goal is set at 55, but I'll probably up it to 60 or 70!! :)

You should check out the page count challenge that I'm hosting. It focuses just on the number of pages read in a year instead of amount of books. http://www.avanticiera.com/2014/12/20...

Actually, I mostly liked what I read in War and Peace (I read about 1/3rd of it). Some of the battle descriptions and military strategy sessions were very dull, but the rest of stuff was quite interesting, IMO. I put it down mainly because it was taking so long to read that I was falling behind on my reading challenge.

message 142: by Dileep (new)

Dileep Sankar Well..First of all.. Happy new year to all!!!

In my case, I am more or less sure that I wont be able to read as much as I did in the past two years (31 and 40 books). I do like reading a lot. I enrolled for Masters in 2012, and that did actually jump start my reading habit, which was dormant for.. well.. around 12 years!!
Now, I can't even believe that I wasted 12 years of my life without reading even a single proper book! But, this year, I am about to get depressed, since I wont be getting much time for reading. The reason is a happy one though (I got a new JOB!!).
Nevertheless, i am taking up the challenge with a lesser number, ie. 20 books. (I don't want to mess up the challenge by setting higher numbers)
And also I've taken up a resolution to keep on finding time whenever possible, so that I can read to my maximum limit.

Love GOODREADS!! and hope that all be able to finish their challenges!!

That's interesting, because it's a totally valid point about reading pages versus books. I wonder if a page count goal could be in the Challenge's future?
