I agree-why was the contest finished 12 days before the end of the year?? I was completely able to finish my goal until I was short-changed by 12 days. Goodreads: PLAY FAIR!!

His book 'Shogun' really opened my eyes about Japanese culture, I was lucky to have read it while in Japan and was able to visit some of the historical sites mentioned in the book.
My work got in the way of my reading, as it always does, but this year was the worst year we ever had for gunshot wounds. Thank the NRA for their stupid commercial as to how people who want sane gun laws are to blame, but never mind.I'm a paramedic. I read all kinds of books in my work but I don't know if I'm allowed to add them on Good Reads. I also read all kinds of continuing education articles so that detracts from my reading. I end up looking like I can barely read anything, as if I'm too slow to comprehend it. I read my work fast, but fiction slow, and I'm tired of fiction WRITERS doing a hatchet job on my profession. Is it really that difficult to ask if someone overdosing on cocaine has pinpoint or large pupils? (sigh) Never mind though. I'm easily distracted when I see glaring errors in my work. I'm flummoxed by it actually. It's a pet peeve of mine; I wish they'd try to find out at least the very basics of emergency medicine, ESPECIALLY if you made your main character an Emergency Physician like this particular author chose to do. Let's just say I value accuracy over fiction when it comes to my work and leave it at that. I've been a paramedic for 7 years.

Katherine wrote: "I agree-why was the contest finished 12 days before the end of the year?? I was completely able to finish my goal until I was short-changed by 12 days. Great year. Lots of reading for me. My work keeps me busy so 60 was almost double what I did last year. I was on disability for about 3 months which helped. Lots of my books were very lengthy too. I'm very proud that I managed to juggle the books and read. I've started to add audio books to my long commute which I think will help in my numbers for 2015.

Why GR would do this yet not create a way to share this on GR is beyond me.

As for what is and what is not "allowed" i think whatever you read is your own business and if it makes you happy that's all that matters. I keep a reading journal that is separate from GR. I use GR for book ideas mainly. Auntie J wrote: "Nancy wrote: "Aaron, thanks. I figured it out. I had to change my privacy settings to allow the whole world to see my status. Katherine wrote: "I agree-why was the contest finished 12 days before the end of the year?? I was completely able to finish my goal until I was short-changed by 12 days. Goodreads: PLAY FAIR!!"Not sure if you are responding to your goal or the best books of 2014 contest. The goal counted every book through December 31.

Katy wrote: "You made your own shelf in Goodreads?? "Oh yes, I have several shelves.
There are several ways to add your own shelves.
One way: when you are on the page of one of your books, below the image of the book's cover, you will see where it has the "want to read" image in green. Hover over the image of the stacked books on the right of that image, with your mouse. You will get a drop-down menu of your shelves. At the very bottom, you will see "Add Shelf". Click on that, type the name of your new shelf, and there you are!

I entered a Pick it For me thing so I made a new shelf just for that. Got all my To-Reads in one pile, read in another and all the new Sherlock Mysteries I wanna read.
Karlo wrote: "Where I can see My year in books for 2015, and vote for best book that I've read this year?"Hi Karlo, to see your books read in 2015 go to home page, then icon for the challenge is down on right hand side.
Thank you for answer, but I didn't aks for challenge. :) 2014 it was option to choose best book that I've read in 2014. It was not a challenge. Challenge is for prediction about how much books I will read in this year and for challenging friends.
My year in books is for voting (at the end of the year) which book is best that I've read this year. We had it last year. :)

They usually put it out either 12/31/15 or 1/1/16

Oops, sorry. Mistook your question. :o)
I have a question that might have been answered already. I have just finished my fourth book for this years reading challenge. But on my account it says I have read 7. Two of the books were 1,300 pages long and the other two were 600-700 pages. Does goodreads calculate "number of books" based on page count? Or am I clicking a button twice by accident? Thanks!
I don't think Goodreads counts books by page numbers. But how you could punch twice is not possible either. You're logging the book by title. Why not contact Goodreads? They have great customer service.
