Sallee My goal for 2014 was 150 books and I missed hitting my goal by one. So I will be starting this year with the one I did not get finished with If you Got It, Flaunt It by Rose Pressey. I finished it on the 1st. LOL!

I would say if you haven't previously counted it as "read" on Goodreads previously you should count it - I.E. If I re-read a book I read several years ago I would count it; if I re-read I book I read last year I wouldn't. Of course, that is just my opinion.

I love that term too because sometimes you just need to curl up with an "easy-read" book that you enjoy.

Try audio books. I have found almost everyone to be very well done by the readers.

Tabatha I read a lot of okay level books. More so than super good or awful. So I'd say it was a decent year.

EJ Portento I like the quotation, "Sometimes books don't find us until the right time.” —Gabrielle Zevin, The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry

It makes sense to the books I've read. I don't really like to read the most in books of the month except to those books that I'm waiting to be published. I we don't just picked the books but a book can picked us too.

message 311: by Belinda (new)

Belinda Missen 2014 was the year I got back into reading, though that didn't happen until later in the year. My favourite book for the year would be Nerd Do Well, by Simon Pegg.

Hi there! We don't require any users to connect via Facebook to use the site, and this policy extends to the Reading Challenge and Your Year In Books as well. You just need to sign in to your Goodreads account as usual to start your Challenge, and if you don't wish to share Your Year In Books on Facebook, you can still view it via the link above without sharing.

I even discovered a new genre of books hitherto unknown to me in urban fantasy and a whole slew of authors in this category . Most of whom I discovered through reading other folks reviews and lists ! goodreads rocks .

E This was up cute and all, but now my books default to cover view and I can't get it to go back.

As for the people that didn't have all their books show up, GR has a glitch where sometimes even though you clicked "read" it doesn't update the book with a "date read". You have to go back through them and manually fix it. You also have to fix the multiple versions that you might accidentally have clicked. You're welcome.

I know a way to fix it, it messed up mine too and gave me a stack instead of a list, click the "table view" icon and it should fix it.

“Sometimes books don't find us until the right time.”
—Gabrielle Zevin, The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry

This quote is so true.

I always loved reading but the year 2014 has been a year that I actually started reading.

I am 18 and I loved reading and I read a lot of short stories and poems since I was 10, but then I got busy with studies and school books. I opened the gates to my reading novels and 500 pages books in 2014. This year was a mess to me, but because it was messy and filled with disappointments, reading books has been with me all the time and I have achieved reading 12 book in a month and 47 books in a year. Also when my target had been only 25. I am looking forward to reading more books this year but I think I might not get time because I am in my second year of Computer Programming. I hope everyone has a good year ahead filled with interesting books and enjoyable moments in life.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2015

message 327: by Micebyliz (new)

Micebyliz i did and then i changed it and then i deleted it. I decided that i don't want a number hanging over my head like the Sword of Damocles. I don't need a number to inspire me and i like to keep a written journal of books just for myself--which is a nice tool if you are off to the library and need a reference. How many times have i checked out books i already read? not telling!!

I get what you are saying about not having a goal number hanging over your head. Reminds me of when my girls were little and there school had a reading program where they read books, took a little test, and earned points which they could trade for prizes; it was a completely voluntary program-this was reading for pleasure, not for class assignments. My girls rarely took the tests even though I knew they were reading lots of books. When I mentioned to one of their teachers that I didn't know why they didn't care about taking the tests so they could earn prizes she said for me not to worry about that; that it was much better that they read because they enjoyed it, not because they could earn a reward.

That being said, I did set a goal. I would read even if Goodreads didn't have this annual reading challenge, but I do admit that I like to set a goal each year and "work" (if you can really call it work!) to meet it.

As for checking out books you have already read...that is one thing I really like about having the Goodsreads app on my phone; I can check to see if a book is on my "read" list, my "to read" lists, etc. I doesn't tell me which books I already own and I admit I have bought books twice - hate it when that happens!

message 330: by Micebyliz (new)

Micebyliz oh oh i've done that too!!! it's so embarrassing. With my lists available and shelves next to me!! you think that mistakes would not happen :)
i'm glad your girls love to read. it's a lifelong pleasure.
have you seen that new little device that reminds you not to slouch? it's a problem with reading for me :) and i'm trying to figure out how to solve it. otherwise i will end up as a hunchbacked little old lady :) The device is called Lumo Lift, i think..
what will they think of next?

message 331: by Kageyama (new)

Kageyama Tobio Love the idea of seeing "My Year in Books", but I wish they would separate the books into the months in which I read them so I can see which months I read the most book.
Ex:
Janurary:
Fangirl
Anna Dressed in Blood
Ender's Game
February:
Attachments
Oliver Twist

if you maintain books you are reading on the site, you list the date you start, your progress, finish date and any comments-at the home page click on "My Books" link to add books you have read, want to read or are currently reading.

Nishtha 2014 was a very mirthful and interesting year. I was able to meet new books and new author . Lisa kleypas and Michelle Reid became two of my favourite authors. I got to read 'hush hush' again and J.K.Rowling wrote another amazing book that stole both my heart and time , I am completely fine with it .

For all the people reading my comments , you can add me as your friend . I am searching for some who are interested in reading . Its always good to know about different books .

To Goodreads , you people are like billboard . I go there for music and I come here everyday to check if I am buying a useful book .Thanks to you guys!
