I made my goal of 42 books! About a week ago I didn't think I would make it...had 5 to go, but I was determined. It didn't hurt that I chose an easy to read chick-lit(but 282 pages) and Jonathan Livingston Seagull (which I was able to read during my lunch hour today!) as my last two books.Amazed at the number of books some people were able to read in 2014. Most of my friends think I read a lot! I think I am going to stick with 42 as my goal for 2015. I work full time, do a lot of volunteer work, and watch way too much tv so don't know that I can read many more than that. I am going to try to read more earlier in the year though so I'm not heading into December so far behind!
Oh another thing I discovered...I can read on my Kindle while I work out on the elliptical during my afternoon break at work. Kills two birds with one stone. I could do the elliptical all afternoon as long as I have a book to read while I am doing it...unfortunately I cannot be away from my desk for that long ;-)
I put the nook and kindle apps on my new smart phone and overdrive (for audio books from the library). It's nice when I get stuck somewhere and I don't have my nook handy. The audio books are nice when I'm doing things are around the house.
Was a good reading year for me. Kids are grown (not out of the house yet). Joined a couple of book clubs. Going to try the new year reading a few outside my usual genre.
Cindy wrote: "I never kept a list before. This was very interesting. Since I only liked a third of the books I read this year, I guess I need to make better choices next year!"Cindy, you need to be sure that you put a "finished by" date for your books, otherwise they aren't counted as part of your challenge list, if that makes sense!
I can honestly say it wasn't because it was until recently that I got in to reading.
HI, Can anyone help...I want to see the year in books things so I can share on social media and stuff. I have 66 read books on my account but when I click the link for year in books it just takes me to a plank page with a little message saying no matching categories or something?
Becca wrote: "Maybe next year you can make this an actual graphic?"I swear that last year they DID have this as a graphic. So why not this year?
I just finished my 52nd book this year & recorded all my reading on my personal blog. Yet, Goodreads says I only read 27 books this year--maybe because I didn't add them all here as I read them?
Kind of annoying that you have to put in date read for it to show up. If you add it on a date, it should take that date (programming?).
Peggy wrote: "Kind of annoying that you have to put in date read for it to show up. If you add it on a date, it should take that date (programming?)."It's not programming. The reason they want you to add the date read is that just because you ad a book on a certain day doesn't necessarily mean you read it that day.
I'm new to the site and I have been adding tons of books that I have read in the past. I am adding stuff that I have had in my library for years and all the books that I can remember reading even when I was in high school.
They just want the site to be accurate.
Exceeded my target of 125 by finishing my 150th book last night with a total of 52939 pages. Although as I started another book that I'm about 25% through I've probably passed the 53000 page mark in truth, but that book can be my start for 2015, just need to decide on a target for next year now.
Tommy wrote: "HI, Can anyone help...I want to see the year in books things so I can share on social media and stuff. I have 66 read books on my account but when I click the link for year in books it just takes m..."Hi Tommy,
Sorry to hear that. For the books to show up in 'Your year in books', they need to have a date set for when you finished reading them. Looks like your books unfortunately did not have a date set, and hence it showed a blank page when you clicked on the banner.
To set the date, you can click on the 'Edit' link on the book cover in your books page (https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...) , and populate the 'Date I finished this book' .
Trust this helps ?
Is it just me, or is there no "official" Reading Challenge for 2015 that tracks books like in 2011-2014? this was a handy tool to measure pace against the reading goal for the year.
Aaron wrote: "I know I personally have about 10 more books to read in 2014. Luckily, any books you read for the rest of the year will continue to be added to the page!Nancy - if you click the "See Your Year in..."
When I click that link, it take me to my "Read" page and there are no sharing buttons.
2014 was a good year for me. I achieved my 300 books in the GR Reading Challenge. I am now waiting for the 2015 to be posted so I can start posting already. I held posting my 5 read books yesterday (comic books mostly) so they could be counted in 2015 already.Happy New Year everyone! Cheers to more books to read in 2015 and beyond!
It's been 1 Jan for 12.5 hours already - where is the 2015 challenge? Not everyone lives in the US Goodreads...
Sian wrote: "It's been 1 Jan for 12.5 hours already - where is the 2015 challenge? Not everyone lives in the US Goodreads..."No, but it is a US based site that runs on US date/time.
Tasha wrote: "When is it going up then? Almost midnight here - what time is it in America?"Depends where in the US they take their time from but they're between 5-8 hours behind the UK. It'll be up some time tomorrow probably. You can set it up any time once it's posted, there's no prize for being the first or the fastest to set your target lol.
I don't understand the desperation myself. I'm going to sleep and when I wake, it'll be there most probably.
Thank goodness I've finally finished the last book! Now I can go live my life in peace.Happy New Year everyone! :)
Phil wrote: "I'm fairly certain it doesn't appear until some time on New Year's Day. If I remember correctly."Thanks! I was actually looking for the same thing. I've been looking daily to set my challenge for 2015! I'll log back in tomorrow and hope to see it then.

I think GoodReads is based in San Francisco (my nexk of the woods) so it would be Pacific Time. But I don't know if they are set to go live at midnight Eastern Time or sometime during the day tomorrow. Hopefully, a GoodReads staff member sees this and can answer for us.
Jenny wrote: "Doug wrote: "You do know that 2014 is not over yet."Right? You can read a lot of books in 12 days. :)"
I read 3.
Wanda wrote: "It says I've only read 4 books in 2014. This makes no sense - I have way more on my list that I marked as read and have rated."wanda, your books are marked as want to read, you should set them as currently reading, when your finished mark as read. This way you can track how long it takes you to read a book, or how many books you read.
Christopher wrote: "I put the nook and kindle apps on my new smart phone and overdrive (for audio books from the library). It's nice when I get stuck somewhere and I don't have my nook handy. Traffic is awful here; listening to a good book might make it more bearable.

So mark as currently-reading first then mark it as read.
Still no sharing icons on the Your year in books page....just the RSS feed. I can share the author's info from the button on this page, but not on my page.
It was a fabulous year of reading! Met some great new (to me) authors and revisited with some old favorites. One book shy of reaching my goal, but that still feels like success to me. Lots of fun GoodReads. I'm sure 2015 will be even better!
Wanda wrote: "It says I've only read 4 books in 2014. This makes no sense - I have way more on my list that I marked as read and have rated."Wanda, you have to set the date you finished the book for it to show up towards your goal. Hope this helps you for 2015!
as for 2014 was the year I also started reading novels, I will say that it was great and I hope to discover more this year:) I think I'm addicted XD
I've never had a bad year of reading. I discovered some new authors and reread a couple of old favorites doing what I call "comfort reading" - fewer calories than comfort eating.
I wish there were a way to change the book that appears next to your status when you want to share your year in review on FB (similar to when you go to post a news story and can select different photos). I would like to share, but given the default book, won't be.
Ptaylor wrote: "I've never had a bad year of reading. I discovered some new authors and reread a couple of old favorites doing what I call "comfort reading" - fewer calories than comfort eating."I love your term "comfort reading". I am going to borrow it for books I often called fluff reading.
As I was trying to delete some 20 books from one of my shelves by mistake they got added to my "Read" shelf and ended up as 20 books read on my 2015 Reading Challenge, and the year has just started! How do I remove them from the Reading Challenge?
Vaidyaraj wrote: "As I was trying to delete some 20 books from one of my shelves by mistake they got added to my "Read" shelf and ended up as 20 books read on my 2015 Reading Challenge, and the year has just started..."Just change their 'date read'. Or if you were trying to remove the books from all your shelves, then just delete them altogether.
It was a fantastic year of reads. I read everything from light to heavy literature which was a good combination for me with what was going on in my life. Probably my favorite at this point was "Defending Jacob". I also loved getting back into some of the Agatha's that I had not read. I also totally loved Until Tuesday.
. I have become involved in the Wounded Warrior program because of it.
For tears I read Rose in a Storm and realized the brilliance of dogs.
It was a very good year.
Do you count re-reads? I'm re-reading (on audio) the Song of Ice and Fire series since I'm reading The World of Ice & Fire (a history of the world that GRRM created). There are so many things that make sense the second time through.
Gail wrote: "I was wondering how it counts, I know that I have read and added to Goodreads more than 20 books this year, but my year in books only shows 6 of them..."You have to have a year set for the finish date of the book for it to display.
Pretty pleased with the amount of reading I achieved this year. I read way over my target of 24 books and got to almost 53, I believe! Can't wait to see how I get on this year, and explore new books and genres!
my final count (no, not the one in the novel :)) was 435. i wasn't trying to up my numbers, i just had a lot of books i wanted to read and the numbers piled up. i started some that i didn't finish and didn't count too. Either they weren't any good, or i made a note to try again another day. This year i plan to read without snacking!!!!!
Leentje wrote: "Not such a good year for me.I can't see anymore through my right eye.

All the best in 2015. I hope your eye operation went well.
oh no. i must have missed that post. how awful!!! reading is life! is the eye okay now? are you going to write a book about your experience? i'm not joking, i think it would be interesting.i read a lot because of chronic pain, so i understand being derailed. this year has to be better!!
