August Ask Terry Posted!

terry-brooksFor many years the only chance a fan had of speaking to Terry was to meet him at tour events or conventions.

With the establishment of this website in 2000, Terry began accepting two questions from each fan per month. On the last day of the month, five questions are randomly drawn. Terry answers these five questions and they are posted monthly for your enjoyment.

Below are the questions selected last month and Terry’s answers! Enjoy!

The High Druid’s Blade ARCs Have Arrived

brooks-highdruidsbladeAdvanced Reader Copies (ARCs) have arrived for The High Druid’s Blade!

Well, they have arrived at my home, at least. I’m sure Terry will have his soon as will select booksellers, book reviewers, and newspaper/magazine critics all over the United States.

For those of you who don’t know, an ARC is exactly what it stands for—an advanced reader copy. It is the entire book. There are still usually a few grammatical errors and the like in an ARC before they are copyedited out for the final hardcover...

Video: Italian Terry Brooks Interview

While visiting Italy recently, Terry was interviewed! It’s an interesting video interview not only because of Terry’s answers but because it shows how interviews get conducted in foreign languages!

In short, the translator has been edited out of the interview. Terry doesn’t speak Italian but he sure looks like it in this video!

Maybe some of the Italian fans who visit this site can translate the questions so we have a better idea of what is being asked…?

Hope you enjoy!

Judine’s Picture Diary: Terry In Italy

September 16, 2013

We have arrived in Frankfurt, had our delicious German dinner and are turning in early for an early rising tomorrow.

The final Terry Brooks event was quite successful – about a hundred people in the tiny village of Bauladu. Lovely outdoor amphitheater. Lots of real Terry Brooks fans, including a contingent of Blue Divide folks (photo).

Poll: What is your favorite Terry Brooks short story?

subpress-multiverseFor years, Terry avoided writing short stories.

It makes sense. He likes a large canvas, one that he can spend some time working on in a sprawling way. The complexity. The ability to develop characters. The chance to go on an adventure that transports the reader from this world to another. Short stories don’t allow for that and Terry has admitted he hates being constrained in that way. In my opinion, if anyone was built to write epic fantasy novels, it was Terry.

Up until 2012, Terry had only w...

Italian Drivers. This is how it’s done :

Pedal to the metal as soon as you hit the motorway. Set the cruise control for 140 kph, close in on vehicle ahead then swerve around them with inches to spare. Do not slow. Occasionally reach 160 kph until passenger requests you slow down. You do not understand English.

Show no fear.

No worries.

Terry Reviews: The Work of Elmore Leonard

leonard-prontoPronto by Elmore Leonard

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My book recommendation for this month is not “a” book recommendation, but a body of work. Like many writers, I want to pay tribute to Elmore Leonard, who recently passed away. He was for me the quintessential writer of quirky, engaging and thoroughly believable dialogue. When reading his books, I never much paid attention to the plots because I was too engaged in his characters. You got to know them in the course of a book, and you wanted to spen...

Poll: Have You Read Unfettered?

unfetteredUnfettered has been published for two months now.

For those of you who don’t know, it is a short story anthology featuring some of the best talent in the fantasy genre. Brandon Sanderson. Patrick Rothfuss. Naomi Novik. Tad Williams. R.A. Salvatore. Jacqueline Carey. Many, many etceteras that are just as great.

To see the full list, click HERE.

Terry contributed two stories. He couldn’t not. The anthology exists to eliminate my medical debt from treating cancer two years ago and Terry wanted to...
