October Ask Terry Posted

For many years the only chance a fan had of speaking to Terry was to meet him at tour events or conventions. Now with the establishment of this website, Terry will accept two questions from each fan per month. On the last day of the month, five questions will be randomly drawn. Terry will answer these five questions and they will be posted monthly for your enjoyment.

Below are the questions selected last month and Terry’s answers! Enjoy!

Coming Soon: The Weapons Master’s Choice

paladins-weaponmasterschoiceGaret Jax is back!

In the 16 years I’ve maintained a web presence for Terry, fans have asked for three things almost daily: a Shannara movie, more on the Druid Allanon, and more on Garet Jax.

Well, Terry e-published Allanon’s Choice a few months ago, the tale taking place directly before The Sword of Shannara. And now, almost three decades later, Garet Jax is coming back as well!

Here is a bit more about it:

A city besieged by a powerful warlock seeks salvation from a fabled warrior in the second...

Movie Discussion: The Hobbit

Rather than post a poll today, I think we should discuss The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey!

Over the next few days, many of us will go to the theater to see Peter Jackson’s new adaptation of a J.R.R. Tolkien work. I’m excited for this movie experience. Like many of you, I’ve read Tolkien’s work and love it; like many of you, I loved The Lord of the Rings movies. They truly brought fantasy into popular culture, making fantasy more accessible to people who otherwise might have had misgivings—rea...

Terry Sees Bloodfire Quest Art

Yesterday, I witnessed a rare occurrence.

An author hanging out with one of his artists.

Bestselling author Terry Brooks stopped by the home of artist Todd Lockwood to sign beautiful giclees of the full-color interior spread in Wards of Faerie. It wasn’t the first time the two have met. They met several years back at Dragon Con and, when Del Rey began planning the release of Wards and all that would encompass that effort, I suggested that Todd be offered the opportunity to paint a Shannara scen...

Poll: Seeing The Hobbit On Opening Day?

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be in theaters next week.

Publicity for the Peter Jackson film is ramping up to its climax during these last few days, when a Hobbit will once again rule the world. I have friends too numerous to count who are going opening night. They won’t be the only ones. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has every possibility of breaking records given the success of The Lord of the Rings. The box office will be thrumming with more gold than Smaug’s treasure trove!

I a...

Poll: Are You Reading The Dark Legacy of Shannara?

Coming March 12, 2013!

Wards of Faerie published in August 2012.

It is Book I in The Dark Legacy of Shannara trilogy, the series that takes place about 100 years after the events in Straken, featuring a hunt for the missing other-colored sets of Elfstones from Faerie.

While a new Shannara book like Wards of Faerie is a celebrated event for Terry Brooks fans, Terry had something else up his sleeve. It turns out he has gotten ahead of his publishing schedule, finishing the writing of novels earlie...

Poll: Do You Give Books For Holiday Gifts?

Today is Black Friday.

For those of you not in the United States, today is Black Friday, the day where people ransack stores at risk to their own personal safety to get deals on gifts for the holiday giving season.

I love giving books. It’s not all I give but books are often the most meaningful. I can tailor each book to every person.

I start my holiday lists early. Some people, like Judine, love cookbooks. Terry loves thrillers and young adult books. My mother likes any fiction that is done wel...
