Witch Wraith: Todd Lockwood Interior Art

lockwood-witchwraith

Witch Wraith, Book Three of The Dark Legacy of Shannara trilogy, will be published on July 16, 2013!

To celebrate Terry’s 35th anniversary of publishing last year, Del Rey Books hired artist Todd Lockwood to paint a full-color interior foldout piece of art for Wards of Faerie. It didn’t stop there. Todd was also hired to paint the interior art for Bloodfire Quest and July’s finale, Witch Wraith.

Terry and Todd met at my home to discuss the Witch Wraith art and from that discussion grew the piec...

TEDTalks: Why I Write About Elves

Back in November 2012, Terry was invited to speak at TedxRainier. He used the fifteen minutes to talk about the importance of fantasy fiction in our world and why he writes it.

If you haven’t seen this, you really should watch it. It is interesting to understand why Terry does what he does and has continued to do it for so long. Hope you enjoy it!

Poll: What Is Your Favorite Landover Book?

landover-volume1

The magical kingdom of Landover. Where nothing is quite what it seems!

Ben Holiday found that out. Once a lawyer, he buys Landover and becomes its king. The story is very much an allegorical retelling of Terry’s life, who made the transition from lawyer to writer. The story is about finding yourself. And that’s just what Terry did when he began writing full time.

As many of you know, Steve Carell is attached to play Ben Holiday in a live-action film based on Magic Kingdom For Sale—Sold!. Terry...

Poll: What Should the Witch Wraith Interior Art Showcase?

A sneak peek at the Witch Wraith interior art!

A sneak peek at the Witch Wraith interior art!

Artist Todd Lockwood has completed the interior artwork for Witch Wraith !

And it is unbelievably and creepily cool!

The man can paint. There is no doubt about it. You can see his work for Wards of Faerie HERE and his work on Bloodfire Quest HERE. Amazing work and Terry was lucky to get him for the interior pieces of the Dark Legacy of Shannara series. But it goes beyond that. They are now friends. And in the future, I foresee other projects developi...

Returning From Phoenix Comicon

Authors Michael Stackpole and Terry Brooks have a good time at Phoenix Comicon 2013!

Authors Michael Stackpole and Terry Brooks have a good time at Phoenix Comicon 2013!

Terry and I have returned from Phoenix.

Well, not exactly. Terry stayed behind a few days to hang out with his sister, author and playwright Laurie Brooks. She lives in the area and is just as busy as Terry. And just as lovely a person. So when they can spend time together, they do.

As for me, I did the same. Sort of. I jumped on a US Airways jet for Bakersfield. I know, I know, who in their right mind would wan...

Poll: Dagda Mor vs. Tael Riverine

alexander-taelriverineWards of Faerie and Bloodfire Quest reintroduced one of Terry’s most vile villains—Tael Riverine. He is a twisted character, one of the worst Terry has written, a demon whose desire to breed with Grianne Ohmsford during her capture in the High Druid of Shannara trilogy made for chilling reading.

Tael Riverine isn’t done yet. Now that the Ellcrys is ending again, he plans on subjugating the Four Lands in his mad hunt to find Grianne and carry out his desire to have progeny. Not a pretty picture...

Terry Reviews: The Book of Lost Things

connolly-lostthingsThe Book of Lost Things by John Connolly

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I am recommending a book by John Connolly, one of my favorite thriller writers. But this book is not of that series or even that ilk. It is a fantasy for young adults, except it is really for everyone in the way all good fairytale books are. The title is THE BOOK OF LOST THINGS. It is about a boy whose own life resembles a fairytale story and whose adventures involve retelling and re-imagining a whole raft of familiar fairytales....
