Jose Rizal from 12 to 35: Photos of Rizal ‘from cradle to grave’ resurface on the Internet

Thanks for following the posts on Rizal's photos from Cradle to Grave. Title should have been "Womb to Tomb" but we don't have ultrasound images of the unborn Rizal.
Thanks to Philippine Star feature by Lora Mae Reyes.

My Inquirer column today is on defamatory information deployed against political enemies. How come they didn't tell me about this in classroom history?

RIZAL: from cradle to tomb.
We have photographs of Rizal from 1873, age 12 as a student at the Ateneo Municipal till 1896 when he was shot dead in Bagumbayan at age 35.
I started Saturday night and worked till Sunday at 8 am going through my files, cropping and placing the 37 known photos of Rizal in a timeline that would not fit on my computer screen so here is Part 1 covering the years 1873-1889 or from age 12 in Manila to age 28 in Paris.

FELIX RESURRECCION HIDALGO was painted in Manila as a toddler together with his grandfather (cropped out) by the 19thC master Malantic. From then a progression of images documents his growth and maturity in Paris ending with the last known photograph as an old man.
Worked on this and other images in my files over the weekend for a new FB series.
Pls share.

BEFORE & AFTER.
Photo above was taken in Rome when Juan Luna, Pedro Paterno, and Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo were young men with promise. Mugshots below show them when they were older and had made names for themselves in Philippine history. I prepared to post my FB profile pics 2009/2021 but decided to do some history first.

Spent a wonderful afternoon interacting online with young aspiring writers. Amazed that some of them as young as 8 years old have read my books. I pray they find good teachers who will encourage their interest in history and not kill the seed through boring lectures and the practice of rote memory.
8th anniversary of Writethings under Neni Santaromana Cruz. I hope she invites me again to speak to the adults and seniors for the R18 version of this afternoon's talk. Thanks to Anvil for provi...

The 1918 ‘trancazo’ epidemic

Isn't it odd that classroom history teaches us about the origins of the First World War, but makes no reference to the 1918 influenza pandemic that killed more people than the war. It does not seem to be in the memory of Pinoys too. Could this be due to the fact that influenza, flu or trancazo (in Spanish or Filipino) is not as scary as cholera, tuberculosis, dysentery, dengue, cancer or AIDS?
Click on the link for today's Inquirer column on

History tells us that the pandemic is not new. We h...
