Renaming of streets in Moncada, July 1898, the old Spanish names giving way to heroes of the Philippine Revolution against Spain. One way is conspicuously absent from the list, can you guess why?
From the Philippine Insurgent Records captured by the enemy forces and later returned by the U.S. National Archives to the Philippines. These documents are preserved in the National Library where the collection has been renamed the Philippine Revolutionary Records.

This book package made my day. An inscribed copy of Jose Victor Z. Torres' new book "What Kapitan Tiago Served and Padre Damaso Ate: Studies on Jose Rizal, His World, and His Works (Ateneo University Press publishes a DLSU Proessor). I have been binging on the Senate Investigation on the overpriced medical supplies acquired by the government from Pharmally. Its more engaging than a Netflix series.
In another life, another time I met four of the main actors in the investigation: Senators Gordon, Drilon, Sotto and Hontiveros. I'm all smiles in these pics and wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of interrogation by them.

My Inquirer column today on the need for a new generation of historians who will dig up material on Marcos and Martial Law in the U.S. to fill in the gaps of what we know today that is merely the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

+BIENVENIDO LUMBERA, National Artist for Literature (1932-2021) was a father figure and inspiration when I first taught in the UP Department of Filipino and Philippine Literature in 1988. Photo on the left started my "Near Famous" series. Taken in Baguio when the UP Creative Writing fellows came to celebrate BenCab's birthday. All the men on the bench with hats are National Artists.

The Widow of Rizal in Hong Kong.
One day, when Hong Kong re-opens for tourism (without the onerous 14-day quarantine) I will check out these places found in two letters of Josephine Bracken who signed herself "Josephine Rizal." These add to my current Rizal walking tour in Central that concludes with roast goose lunch at Yung Kee.
Any takers?

One would think my name is quite unique, but I could not get it as a name on gmail or youtube because someone else had taken it. I recently received an email offer to buy back my own name for UDS4,000!
I reported all Ambeth Ocampos on FB leaving five legitimate ones that includes my private account. There are about a dozen "Ambet Ocampos." Fortunately, the Ambeth R. Ocampo FB page is now "verified."
