“…a pocketful of mumbles
Such are promises
All lies and jest
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest”

The Boxer. Simon and Garfunkel

I’ve been thinking for days about what I should write in today’s blog post. If I should even write one. I have always considered Terry’s Place to be a positive place. I’ve never allowed politics here, simply because it does nothing but engender name-calling, hate-spewing, and total misinformation. I li...

Writing Fodder Abounds

Writing Fodder Abounds

graphic of a person holding a giant pencil over a piece of paperIf you’re a writer, writing fodder is everywhere. What you see, hear, smell, feel. On Monday, I gave a recap of what I’d experienced during a recent fire threat. Today, I’m over at The Kill Zone Blog talking about takeaways for writers from that experience. I hope you’ll stop by.

Dealing With The Unexpected

Dealing With The Unexpected

The unexpected will happen. Recently, I was home by myself for about a week. The Hubster was pet sitting for our son-in-law’s critters, a dog and a cat, while he was on his annual hunting trip. Hubster takes our dog with him, so the animals have company (although I’m not sure how much their cat welcomes the intrusion). This give me some alone time, and I usually have plans to get the things I’ve been putting off (finances?) or only thinking about (cleaning and reorgan...

It’s Halloween Week

It’s Halloween Week

Ad promoting Deadly Places by Terry Odell

It’s Halloween Week, and I’m running a 99-cent special on my Mapleton Mystery Novella, Deadly Places. It has a Halloween connection, albeit a loose one.

Life is a balancing act. When you’re a cop, the choices can be deadly.

Ed Solomon, long-time police officer in the small town of Mapleton, Colorado, has been ribbed for thinking there’s a ring of assassins out killing deadbeat dads. However, he’s convinced these killers exist and they’re doing their dirty work from behind an...

Friday Fotos – Quebec City

A fair number of years ago, the Hubster had a meeting in Quebec City, and I went along. While he was doing his Conference Stuff, I toured the city with my little point and shoot.

Heroes and Heroines. A Quiz

As a chronic insomniac, I often lie awake in the wee hours, trying to turn my mind away from whatever problems are demanding immediate solutions. The other night—or morning—I was trying to remember the heroes and heroines of my romantic suspense books. I failed dismally.

Just for fun, here’s a sampling of my titles. To make things easier, I’ll give you one of the names. You supply the other. You can go he...

What’s a Friend?

What’s a Friend?

two friends' hands What’s a friend? Back in the day, when Facebook was new, I followed the crowd and created a Profile. Then, the idea was to accept as many “friends” as possible, up to the Facebook imposed limit of 5,000.

Everyone went around “friending” each other.

Then, Facebook came up with the Page concept. It had to be connected to a personal profile, but it was a place where you could have unlimited “followers.”

For me, it was also a place to separate my profile friends from my author perso...

Friday Fotos – Pikes Peak Views

Friday Fotos – Pikes Peak Views

Shortly after we moved to Colorado, we took a short anniversary trip to Manitou Springs (about 20 miles away). We rode the cog railroad to the top of Pikes Peak, and in the short time allotted at the summit (after getting the ‘special recipe you can only get them here’ donuts), took some pictures. This was back in 2011, and I can’t even remember what camera I had. Probably a point and shoot, and I didn’t do any post processing back then.

Random Thoughts About Reading

Random Thoughts About Reading

display of books by author Terry Odell for a bazaar

Last Saturday, our neighborhood had a small craft bazaar. I set up a table with my books (all the other tables were handicrafts), and I have a few random thoughts about reading and readers.

Since this was a community event, almost everyone who came through lived in the neighborhood. I knew some of them, some of them knew me. A lot more knew my husband for his activity in the Homeowners’ Association, the photos he puts up on the neighborhood Facebook page, or becaus...
