I needed something quick and easy for dinner. A check of my recipes, my freezer, and my pantry gave me everything I needed to throw this butternut squash sweet potato soup together. It’s a riff on a recipe for Curried Butternut Squash Soup, but streamlined.
Ingredients:
2 packages frozen cubed butternut squash.
1 sweet potato
3 c vegetable broth (I use Better than Bullion)

Start the Next Book
Double Intrigue launched without any mishaps—at least none I’m aware of. We did celebrate with a bottle of bubbly, but that’s over and done. So, now it’s time to sit back and relax, right?
No, what I’m doing is starting the next book. Same motivation for getting it done—writing a book set in places I’ve been makes those trips research, which makes the cost tax deductible. This one will be a Blackthorne, though, not a stand alone.

Tonight marks the beginning of the year 5785, and the New Year is always celebrated with sweet dishes to signify hope for a sweet year to come. I’m sharing my mom’s plum cake recipe (Pflaumkuchen), who got it from her mom. The rest of the cousins made their plum cake with a Muerbeteig crust, but Mom likes this one better. It’s her traditional dessert for Rosh Hashanah, and is a tradition in ours as well.

With three more days before release, Double Intrigue is as good as it’s going to get. It’s uploaded to all the sales channels, and this is where I feel guilty about not doing more marketing. I created a trailer and some graphics, but I’m not bombarding the social media sites with them. I know only a fraction of people see the posts, but I still don’t repeat them ad infinitum.

Banned Books Week
Banned Books Week
We’re right in the middle of Banned Books Week. I can’t imagine people banning books. It seems today, too many people are imposing their own wishes on others, especially children. If you don’t want to read a book, don’t read it. If you don’t want your kids to read a book, don’t let them. But where do people have the right to go beyond that and tell other children what they can or cannot read? To me, that reeks of censorship, and not a good kind.

Ten More Days
Ten more days until the official release day for Double Intrigue. Am I ready? More importantly, is the book ready?
What went into the preparation?
First, of course, I had to write the book. My faithful critique partners read it as I finished chapters. Once I hit ‘the end’, I gave it a little time and then printed the entire manuscript using my ‘fool the brain’ method. After making any changes I deemed necessary, I sent it to my editor.
