manuscript page showing track changes markup on a blue background

I’ve spent the last week dealing with the feedback from my editor. (Insert rant about Track Changes.)

**Note: I always change the page color when working with more than one file so I don’t mix them up.

Things I accepted and fixed without question: typos, commas, hyphens, paragraph breaks.Things I gave some thought: word suggestions, both of the deleting and inserting sort. Did they fit my voice? Did they make things clearer? Did they help/hinder the flow?Things I had to sto...

Romantic Gestures

Romantic Gestures

picture of an open Swiss Army knifeWhat do you think of as a ‘romantic’ moment? Flowers and chocolate on Valentine’s Day? A glittery something on your birthday? Flowers delivered every Friday?

For me, romantic means thoughtful. Doing something unexpected. Sure, a guy’s going to be in deep yogurt if he forgets Valentine’s Day, but it’s the action that says “I’m thinking of you all on my own” that trips my heartbeat.

Is a Swiss Army knife a romantic present? Some would say no, but the circumstances, not the gift, ...

Danger Abroad Has A Cover

Danger Abroad Has A Cover

My newsletter subscribers have already seen the cover, but here it is. Kim Killion did a great job, don’t you think?

Cover of Danger Abroad by Terry Odell

I sent the manuscript for Danger Abroad to my editor last week, and this is what she had to say:

It’s going great. I’m very intrigued as a reader by the plot and the location. You’ve done a great job with these characters. Makes me want to go back and read the very first book with how much Ryan is in the story. ❤️ I haven’t come across anything major yet....

Friday Fotos – Feebie

Friday Fotos – Feebie

Some days, you just want to escape. I thought everyone might enjoy some dog pictures, and Feebie was happy to oblige. We adopted her from the Teller County Regional Animal Shelter (TCRAS) in 2012.

WCW – Mom’s All Purpose Sauce

WCW – Mom’s All Purpose Sauce

recipe card and ingredients for an all purpose sauce

My mom called this “Sauce for Vegetables” but it can be used for a lot more than that. I’ve used it on fish and chicken, too.

As you can see above, there aren’t a lot of ingredients. And you can increase, decrease, or swap things out as you prefer. It’s kind of like my plotting style. A lot of improv. (If you look at the recipe card, you can see there’s not a whole lot going on.)

Here’s the “official” recipe.

Ingredients
1 small onion, chopped (I used 1/2 a large o...

Now I Wait

Now I Wait

Cute dog curled up in bed

Danger Abroad is now in the hands of my editor. Now I wait. I took the weekend “off” from writing. Did fun stuff like work on taxes, clean out my file drawers, organized my financial accounting system for 2025. (An obvious task after dealing with taxes. Need something more efficient.)

What else do I do while I wait? I have a stack of recipes that need to go into binders.

I’ve also been enjoying a couple of Facebook reels, videos, whatever they are, and they’re about as far apart as y...

WCW – White Bean Dip with Cumin Oil

WCW – White Bean Dip with Cumin Oil

I made this white bean dip for a New Year’s Day open house, and it was very well received, so I made it again for my book club meeting. I thought I’d taken a picture, but apparently not, so this is the image from the original recipe on the New York Times Cooking site. I’ve made some minor modifications in this version.

A Short Post This Time

A Short Post This Time

cartoon person angry at his computer Email Glitches.

I’ve had some email glitches last week. I’m not 100% sure they’ve been fixed, so I’m not going to post anything particularly meaty today. I’ve been deep into editing the manuscript before it’s due to my editor on Saturday.

We decided on a title, and I want to thank those of my newsletter subscribers who sent their choices. The winner, for a variety of reasons, including fitting the theme of the book and matching the pattern of other Blackthorne, Inc. books ...
