WCW – Fumi Salad Revisited

This Fumi Salad recipe has been around for some time, in lots of variations. I got the recipe from my mom. I first shared this back in 2012, so I’m guessing a lot of people haven’t seen it.  I still like it, and brought it to our monthly pot luck supper last week. (And I was glad I did, not only because it was well-received, but because it was the only salad there.)

Mississippi River Cruise Recap 2

Mississippi River Cruise Recap 2

paddle wheel riverboat behind tress with a bridge in the background

Prior to leaving for the Mississippi River cruise, we had the opportunity to sign up for shore excursions. Some were included; others had fees attached, which was understandable since we’d be going places that charged admission. I already shared what we saw on our Cajun Swam Tour.

Note: This cruise was the “Mississippi River Historic Tour” so our stops included learning a lot about the history of each place we visited, through daily presentations on the boat abo...

Friday Fotos – Mississippi Up Close

One of my favorite things to photograph is up close details. Here are some Mississippi Up Close images.

Mississippi River Cruise Recap 1

First: Today is Memorial Day. Remember what it means:
Memorial Day is one of the federal holidays in the United States for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Friday Fotos – Cajun Swamp Tour

Friday Fotos – Cajun Swamp Tour

Our first shore excursion on our cruise was a Cajun Swamp Tour. Admittedly, this is designed for tourists, but it was a great time all the same. Our boat driver/guide was funny, but his information was spot on. (Trust me, the Hubster is a biologist. He knows these things.)

The animals have been ‘trained’ to show up when they hear the boat’s engine and the guide’s calls. Giving them food has encouraged this behavior. But it guarantees everyone will have a chance to...

I’m Back On My Mountain

I’m Back On My Mountain

The trip was fantastic! Coming home … not so much. Weather caused massive delays at the Denver airport, so we were about 7+ hours later getting back than originally planned. Not wanting to deal with driving up the mountain at 2AM, we stayed overnight in Denver, so I’m about a day behind.

The suitcases are empty, but the cubes aren’t. The laundry hamper is overflowing. The refrigerator is bare. (Could be a good thing after all the food they gave us on the cruise!)

My appro...

Time for a Break

Time for a Break

Paddlewheeler on the river

I’m ready for a break. Terry’s Place will be on hiatus while I head out on vacation for a while. Nothing as exotic as the Faroe Islands or New Zealand. We’re sticking stateside this year.

A few days in the Big Easy, then on board a paddlewheeler to cruise the lower Mississippi River. I’ll let you know what we did, saw, and ate when I get back. If you follow me on Facebook, you might get to see some pictures before then.

Meanwhile, I know some books you can read. And, if you’re ...

When The Story Takes A Left Turn

When The Story Takes A Left Turn

black left turn arrow on yellow background

Sometimes, left turns show up when you don’t expect them. I’ve been working to make as much headway as possible in the new book before we leave for a vacation. Because it’s a Mapleton Mystery, and Mapleton is a very small town, there’s not a lot of serious crime going on. In fact, at this point, I’m not sure there’s going to be a homicide, which in itself poses a problem. For many readers, a “mystery” is synonymous with “murder mystery.” But there are so many cr...

What’s A Best Seller?

What’s a Best Seller?

Things have been busy here, and I’ve been trying to make more headway on the current WIP, so I apologize for rerunning this blog post. The topic was triggered by a comment I saw on my recent Kill Zone post, where the commenter said he was still working a writing a best-seller. He went on to say that until then, he’d continue to work on character development (which, I think, is what will draw readers to a book, and then maybe, he’d reach best- seller status). But what is a b...
