Friday Fotos – Denver Reflections
Friday Fotos – Denver Reflections
While I was at Left Coast Crime in Denver, the hotel was downtown. Most of you know I live in the mountains in a rural area, so being surrounded by tall buildings and lots of glass was a big change. But I love taking pictures of reflections, so I grabbed a few images from my 17th floor hotel room, and a few more while walking down the street to the restaurant where Hubster and I had dinner one night.

Swag
Swag
Swag is one thing you can count on at conferences, and Left Coast Crime was no exception. It’s a place for authors to connect with readers (or is it the other way around?). Either way, authors use swag to call attention to themselves and their books.
I brought post-it notes and lip balm, both of which were very well received. I also brought a couple dozen copies of Seeing Red. Not as big a reach, but I figured it would introduce people to my writing as well as my name. I didn’t see any cop...

Left Coast Crime Recap
Left Coast Crime Recap
I’m back from Left Coast Crime, happy to be out of the big city and up on my mountain, but it was good to see like-minded people for a few days.
Left Coast Crime is a reader-focused conference, so the panels are designed to showcase the authors and their books, unlike a writer-focused conference, where panels are designed to expand on craft.
The first day began with “Speed Dating” where authors go from table to table giving out swag and pitching their books. I’ve thought a...

Off to the Left Coast Crime Conference
Off to the Left Coast Crime Conference
I’m off to the Left Coast Crime conference today, so my responses to comments might be late. It’s a reader-based conference, so I’m hoping to meet new people and introduce them to my work. I’ll be on a panel called “Behind the Badge: Writing Authentic Police Procedurals.” I guess they got tired of putting me on the “sex” panel. If you’re attending, it’s Thursday at 2:30. If you’re not attending, it’s still Thursday at 2:30.
When it comes to police procedur...

Danger Abroad Read and Review Team
Danger Abroad Read and Review Team
I’ve been busy reading the print proof of Danger Abroad. No matter how many times you’ve looked at the manuscript, listened to the computer read it, there are STILL little things that sneak by.
I have room for a few more Danger Abroad Read and Review Team members.
Team members receive a digital copy of Danger Abroad from Book Funnel, and are asked to leave honest reviews.
The timing: You’ll get your copy of the book by March 17th. The book officially releases o...

Friday Fotos – Flowers
Friday Fotos – Flowers
Sometimes you just need to stop and smell the flowers.
Have a nice weekend to those who celebrate. Take some time to smell the flowers. And don’t forget to change your clocks if you live somewhere the time change takes effect.

WCW – Pastel de Elote
WCW – Pastel de Elote
This pastel de elote, a cross between a custard and cornbread, is a perfect accompaniment to stew, chili, ribs or any other dishes where cornbread would be featured.
Ingredients
3 eggs
1 8 ¾ -oz can cream style corn
1 10-oz package frozen corn, thawed and drained. (I just dumped it onto several layers of paper towels to thaw. If you’re pressed for time, run it under hot water, then drain.)
½ c butter, melted
½ c yellow corn meal
1 c sour cream (8oz) or 8oz Greek yogurt...

A Wasted Marketing Effort?
A Wasted Marketing Effort?
Marketing is very low on my “I love to do this” list, but I like to see how my books are doing. As an indie author, I have access to my book sales/downloads any time I want them. I generally look at them a couple of times a day, just to see how things are doing.
This is what I generally see from Amazon. Minor ups and downs, but basically steady across the board.
Then, one day, I see this.
That jump was significant. True, it was for a free book, but I had done nothin...

What About Boycott Day?
What About Boycott Day?
First – I’m saying outright that I’m not the least bit happy with what’s happening in our country under the current administration. My mother escaped the Holocaust, and I was brought up to stay in the background, not make waves, and be the best person possible. I can’t remain in the background any longer. So … this isn’t the kind of post you normally find here at Terry’s Place.
Okay, with that out of the way …
Today has been promoted as a total boycott day. Not buying any...

Terry’s Place is taking the day (or maybe the week) off to recognize surviving another trip around the sun.
