The Morning After by Jae | Book Review Wednesday
I don’t normally review short stories, but I read one recently that I really liked, and I figured a story is a story. If you like novels, you’ve probably read a short story here or there that you’ve enjoyed as much; I know I have.
This story is the first I’ve ever read by the lesbian fiction author Jae. (If you’ve never heard of her, you probably don’t read many stories about women who like women. The Morning After is the story of a Valentine’s Day blind date gone horribly wrong. Despite how...

Mardi Gras 2016
This year, my wife and I celebrated the same way we have since we got together: food, drinks, parade, and partying!
The funniest thing I saw: Our friend, the Mardi Gras birthday girl, has as many costume changes as Cher on tour, and my favorite is probably her “naked suit.”
The best food this year: The same as it always is… the spicy boudain dip!
The best drink this year: Salted Watermelon Shooters
The best parade attraction: The middle school marching band
The verdict: I ca...

If You Like A, You’ll Like B for February 2016 | Mention Monday
Last month, I gave you science fiction recommendations based on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Phillip K. Dick, and you can check those out here. This month I decided to go with romance in celebration of Valentine’s Day, but I didn’t want to talk about the kind of bodice-rippers that my mother used to read.
Instead, for this February installment of Mention Mondays: A to B, I wanted to recommend some more off-kilter romance stories that will appeal to different audiences. (And, of cou...

Deadlines and Brewed Cacao, Interview with Chess Desalls | Spotlight Saturday
This month’s first Spotlight Saturday author writes stories that are a far cry from last month’s first author, Rami Ungar. Chess Desalls writes clean, YA fiction. Her time travel series, The Call to Search Everywhen, already has two novels, with a third to be released this month.
She’s running a multi-prizegiveaway right now until Valentine’s Day, and two Goodreads giveaways (here and here)that run from now until February 9th. Be sure to get your entries in soon!

The Toy | Fiction Friday
This week’s Fiction Friday snuck up on me. I normally post this well in advance of my schedule, but this week, I’ve been deep within two projects that are keeping me busier than usual, and I only just realized that the show must go on. As I write this, it is 8:40AM on Friday morning. A close call indeed!
The story I’m bringing you today is one that I’ve been writing and rewriting on and off for several years. I never was quite happy with it, because I think I wanted it to be something it wasn...

Inspiration from the Classics | A Guest Post by Jennifer-Lynn Keniston
Writing is a lot of things to different people. Some people write “just for fun,” while others write for self-expression, truth, justice, fame, fortune, or a dozen other reasons that are individual to each writer. Some of us write because we are compelled to do so. Others come to it later, not necessarily as a calling, but as a way to share their ideas and knowledge.
I recently volunteered to take part in a blog tour for Jennifer-Lynn Keniston, author the2015 thriller,Afta-U.

The Passenger by Lisa Lutz | Book Review Wednesday
The Passenger byLisa Lutzis a strange trip, a story told in slices of life demarcated by the identities taken on by the lead character. The story unfolds in waves, and each time you get a little more information, you end up with even more questions than you had before.
In case you were wondering, I didn’t do it. I didn’t have anything to do with Frank’s death. I don’t have an alibi, so you’ll have to take my word for it…
Forty-eight hours after leaving her husband’s body at the base of the st...

4 Rights Groups That Need to Sit Down and Shut Up | In Other Words Tuesday
Last month for In Other Words Tuesday, I gave you 5 Reasons to Give Up Coffee (Or Not). The prompt I chose for this monthwas harder to pin down, though. With everything that is going on in the world today, how can I choose just one bear to poke with this stick?
This week’s prompt is: “When they discover the center of the universe, a lot of people will be disappointed to discover they are not it.” — Bernard Bailey
In the end, I’ve decided to grab a bundle of sticks, and poke as many (mostly Am...

Palate Cleanser | Serial Sunday
If you’re looking for a new story to start today, you’re going to be sorely disappointed. Most of the time, especially after a particularly emotionally-charged or lengthy Serial Sunday story, I will be posting something like this. Sometimes I need a break before I can get a new one started, and that’s what today is.
Here’s a round-up of all my Serial Sunday stories so far, in case you’re really just itching to read a story in parts.
