Espied | Sunday Photo Fiction | Continuation of “Traverse”
This week’s Sunday Photo Fiction was just what I needed to get another scene written for the dark adventure story that I started with “Traverse“. For now the larger story doesn’t yet have a name, but here’s Part II.
Espied by Adan Ramie
Two girls walked hand in hand toward the doors. The smaller stopped, turned, and scampered back the way she had come. The older jogged after her, headed her off and dropped to her knees, then took the younger one’s hands. As she spoke, she brushed hair out of th...

Flight 305 | Week 51 Thain in Vain 2014 Flash Fiction Challenge
It’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to participate in Thain in Vain’s Flash Fiction Challenge, but this prompt was an interesting one and I couldn’t pass it up. The prompt: famous, unsolved crimes. The character Lee is one of the main characters of the manuscript I’m currently editing for publication in 2015. Here’s Flight 305:
“Children, it’s time to go.”
She meant well, but the program director’s voice grated on Lee’s nerves. Four orphans and two foster care rejects pushed to their feet...

Traverse | Flash Fiction Inspired by Sunday Photo Fiction
After a recuperative week of catching up, I can finally dedicate a morning to writing. I won’t bore anyone with the details of my last week, but I will say that I’m going to be glad when this year is over.
My first foray back into writing for the month of December comes from a prompt by Sunday Photo Fiction. It’s flash — the limit was 200 words. I think I’ll develop this story further, because it has promise, but for nowI’ll leave you with this.

Nailed It! | On Winning NaNoWriMo for the Second Time
NaNoWriMo 2014 has come and gone, and to everyone who participated, I’d like to extend my warmest congratulations. Whether you wrote 50 words or 50,000, you wrote something more than you had in October, and that’s to be celebrated.
For myself, I’m happy to say I made it to 50K. That manuscript isn’t finished by any means; there are still plot holes, and I have to wrap it up (I left it at the end of the climax), but I can say I do have a first draft.

The Kennedy Plan | A Novel Excerpt
For the last 28 days, I’ve been hard at work on a new manuscript for A History of Silence, a story about a young girl and her quest to find her mother’s killer. It has taken up most of my time,so between NaNoWriMo, my quest for a degree, and family, I haven’t been posting as much as I should.

India breaks the family vow of silence to find her mother’s killer. But is she the next to die?
That’s why I’ve decided to take part in this week’s installment of Wendy Strain’s weekly challenge, WOW 555....

Safe-giving
For those of you celebrating the holiday tomorrow, one thing I want to say more than anything is this: Be Safe!
Eat a lot, spend time with those closest to you, and be careful out there. If you can, stay inside. Holidays bring out the worst in people, including drunk driving and road rage; do everything you can to avoid becoming a sad statistic on this day of thanks.
Until next time,
Adan

Thirteen O’Clock | A Year in Blogging, Writing, and Life
It’s official, folks: I’ve been here for a full year as of yesterday.
The past year has been a full one for me. There have been ups and downs, shakeups and breakups. I’ve moved (twice), had major surgery, attended weddings and funerals, and lived through the first half of a bitter custody battle.
I’ve also had three stories accepted for publication, released my first eBook, written a novel-length manuscript, a novella-length manuscript, and several hundred short stories. I’ve learned a lot abou...

Silent Struggle | Week 1 NaNoWriMo Update for “A History of Silence”
On the 7th day of NaNoWriMo, I can happily say that I’m working right on schedule. At over 13,000 words, I’m going strong into the end of the Opening Act. Characters have been introduced and relationships have been explored and lay semi-exposed, ready for the big inciting incident. I’ve been hesitant to get to it, trying to give my main character, India, something good to hold fast to before I take yet another piece of her heart. But now it’s time: tomorrow, the real pain begins.
While I’ve be...

The Long Arm of the Crime | 100 Word Challenge & Inspiration Monday | Challenge Flash Fiction
To take my mind off the heart-rending plot of my NaNoWriMo novel, I decided to try my hand at a couple of light-hearted writing challenges. My response answers to two: 100 Word Challenge and Inspiration Monday. The first half corresponds to the 100WC, and the whole piece goes to Inspiration Monday.
Halloween’s past, true, but it’s always Halloween in my imagination. Without further introduction, here’s “The Long Arm of the Crime“:
Susana gasped and fell to the ground. She scrambled, crab-like,...
