Snakebit | Story Collaboration Challenge

Yesterday I made a rushed commitment to post fiction at the end of my blog game post, but due to unforeseen circumstances, I wasn’t able to get back to writing until today. That being said, writer’s block hit me in the middle of the story I was writing this morning, so I don’t have a full piece for you today. Instead, I came up with a little something different.

This challenge will be akin to something Chuck Wendig would do to his acolytes: I’ll give you the first part of the story, and task...

Blogger Game | The Love/Hate Challenge

I don’t normally take part in blog games or nominations, but this most recent challenge sounded interesting, so I thought I would give it a whirl. Rami Ungar (rami ungar the writer) nominated me in his response to the nomination he got from Joleene Naylor (Ramblings From The Darkness). The game is simple: post ten things you love and ten things you hate, then nominate ten bloggers to do the same.

Love:

My family. Without my wife and children, I don’t know what I would be. I suspect I’d be a...

Author-Requested Review | Who Said It Couldn’t Be Done? by Denise Jones

When the author Denise Jones contacted me to ask if I would review her book, Who Said It Couldn’t Be Done?,I was intrigued. Certainly it sounded like a tragic story that would have an uplifting ending, and I always like to read about people who have struggledand risen above the terrible victimization that so many in the world live every day. That being said, I found it difficult not to take offense at being sent this book to review.

WhoSaid

When I opened this book, I thought that, in 2015, I would b...

Review 9 | TBR Pile Challenge | Neverwhere

In my last book review for the TBR Pile Challenge, I was really impressed. You can read that review here. But the book I’ve been reading for the last nine days? It’s in the top two I’ve read this year, and maybe the top ten of the past decade.

Neverwhere

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman is a rollercoaster ride througha fantastical nightmare. In the beginning, the main character is justboring enough to be a charming everyman. By the end, he’s a champion, but he doesn’t lose his self-deprecating naivete.

The se...

No One Helped | NetGalley Review #2

When I read the description of No One Helped by Marcia M. Gallo on NetGalley, I knew immediately that I wanted to read it. I had heard about Bystander Apathy from an online forensics course I’m taking, and about the case this book investigates many times. So I was glad when I was given a copy of it to review.

No-One-Helped

What can I say about No One Helped? If you want an in-depth, absolutely thorough look into the Kitty Genovese case, and the tendency ofthe publicto look the other way when witnessing a...

Requested Happy Endings | Interview with Lesfic Author Gaelle Cathy

I’ve beta read for a lot of authors in the past few years, and one of the most receptive and friendly authors I’ve worked with was Gaelle Cathy. She has authored several lesbian fiction stories, a few of which I’ve had the pleasure of critiquing, and recently released her fourth novel, One Breath at a Time.

One Breath at a Time is the story of Berkeley student, Alecia, and her heartbreaking romance with Spencer, the young photographer with the terminal secret that could tear them apart foreve...

Hungry | Cannibal Flash Fiction for Three Prompts

Given three perfectly ordinary prompts, I’m not sure how I came up with the story of a young cannibal. WOW555 asked for “rage” or “passion.” Sunday Photo Fiction put up a picture of a Lego ice cream truck. And Inspiration Monday offered a short list ranging from “goldfish heart” to “daylight oil.” Somehow, all that turned into the short memoir of a people-eater.

Fourth of July

Here’s Hungry:

Some people think that with cannibalism, there’s a switch, something that changes, that inexplicable force that hin...
