Book Review Wednesday | Relic by Anne Hagan

Every once in a while, I’ll be scrolling through Amazon, buy a book on Kindle, and forget it exists for a few months. When I open my Kindle reading app, I’m usually shocked to see how many titles I have lined up there; I always vow to get to all of them within a certain period of time, which I inevitably let pass without getting through half. Relic by Anne Hagan was one of those impulse purchases for me, and as I had some reading time open up this week, I decided to check it out.

Relic

Bad Reputation | Terribleminds Prompted Flash Fiction

This week has been a whirlwind of happy chaos. The biggest thing, of course, was the historic Supreme Court decision that declared me an equal citizen — at least as far as my marriage is concerned. It changed so many lives for the better, and I’m still astonished that it really happened.

In writing related news, Imanaged to get my new anthology, Consuming Darkness, almost ready for publication. (A special announcement post is coming soon.) Then, I went through Maladaptation and made a list of...

It’s Official: Love Wins!

My wife called me as I was walking in the door from grocery shopping this morning. She sounded weepy as she told me to turn on the television.

“What channel?” I asked.

“All of them. It’s on all of them.”

I flipped it on, and what I saw nearly knocked me off my feet. I pulled the ottoman over and collapsed. It happened. SCOTUS ruled IN FAVOR of marriage equality.

Today, instead of having to say that my wife and I are married in “over half” of states, I can say that we’re MARRIED. Period. No qu...

Searching for Celia by Elizabeth Ridley | Netgalley Review 3

When I decided to read Searching for Celia by Elizabeth Ridley, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I knew it sounded like a mystery/thriller mixed with LGBT romance — but would I really like it?

Searching for Celia

The basic plotline of the story is explained on the back cover (edited for length):

Dayle Salvesen, a bestselling spy novelist from Wisconsin, arrives in London for a writers’ conference only to be told that her best friend and former lover, Celia Frost, has died under mysterious circumstances. Or has she...

New Anthology | Care to cast your vote?

Long-time readers of this blog probably know about Darkness Undone, the free anthologyI created of my dark flash fiction to get my feet wet in the self-publishing pool. Most of those stories started here on this blog, but I added an extra few to round it out into something more. Since I had some pretty positive responses to it, I thought I would do it again. But this time I’ll do things a little differently.

Below you will find a poll that lists some of my more recent stories, especially a fe...

Review 10 | TBR Pile Challenge | The Island

Being such a huge fan of Jaws, this book practically shouted at me when I saw it in the last library book sale. I love what I’ve read of Peter Benchley’s work so far, so even though the plotline of The Island didn’t appeal to me as much, I thought I would give it a try. So, once I got it home, I promptly put it (and the rest of my library sale finds) in the back of my closet, and didn’t unearth it again until I was searching for books for the TBR Pile Challenge.

The Island

What can I say about this boo...
