Austin is Gorgeous | Lone Star LesFic Festival Series, Part 3

I recently posted the first two in a five-part series on my rousing trip to Austin, Texas to attend the Lone Star LesFic Festival for authors and readers. This week I’m going to continue in the same vein, but focus on something entirely different.

It was a lot of fun to be at the convention meeting authors, looking at all the new books, and listening to how these ladies got their ideas, why they wrote what they did, and more. But that wasn’t all I did in Austin. I also spent a lot of time exp...

One Thing I’m Excited For | April Blogging Challenge

Sometime last month, someone posted a 30-day challenge for April that I really liked. I saved the picture, added dates into my posting calendar, and… promptly forgot who posted it, as well as deleted the photo. But at least I had the forethought to schedule a few that I really liked into my blogging calendar.

The prompt for today was ‘one thing you’re excited for,’ andit almost stumped me. It’s not that I don’t have a lot to be excited about, because I do. I have so many things to look forwar...

The Moppet Murders | #FirstLineFriday

Recently I dipped my toe into the #FirstLineFriday fountain for the very first time. Though I was afraid at first, I found that the water is more than fine, and I’m already excited for my next post.

For those of you unfamiliar with #FirstLineFriday, here are the basic rules that I stole from Rami’s post:

Create a post on your blog titled “#FirstLineFriday”, hashtag and all. Explain the rules like I’m doing now. Post the first one or two lines of a potential story, a story in progress, or a c...

Bored to Death by Jonathan Ames | Book Review Wednesday

Does my wife influence every decision I make? No. Yes, she does. That’s why these last three books I’ve reviewed have been based on her recommendation. Why do I give her so much sway over what I put into my head? Because she owns me. She really knows what I like. Sometimes I think she knows my taste better than I do.

That’s why I started watching the cancelled TV series, Bored to Death, and why I picked up this eBook, Bored to Death: A Noir-otic Story. I was really hesitant on this one, becau...

What Makes a Good Story and Getting to Know the Authors | Lone Star LesFic Festival Series, Part 2

Last week I posted the first in a five-part series on my rousing trip to Austin, Texas to attend the Lone Star LesFic Festival for authors and readers. This week I’m going to continue in the same vein and discuss the rest of my experience of the panels, discussions, and the kindness of the authors who attended.

As I mentioned in my last post, I skipped the panel on sex, so by the time I got back, author and moderator extraordinaire, Stacia Seaman, was hosting a talk show called Getting to Kno...

Something I Miss | April Blogging Challenge

Sometime last month, someone posted a 30-day challenge for April that I really liked. I saved the picture, added dates into my posting calendar, and… promptly forgot who posted it, as well as deleted the photo. But at least I had the forethought to schedule a few that I really liked into my blogging calendar.

The Body Will Not Be Dimensional | Fiction Friday

I was going to post about Earth Day today, but this idea kept tugging at my brain, and I couldn’t concentrate long enough to create a coherent thought about being green. For those who care, I’ll probably post about that sometime next week.

As for today, I’ve had What’s the Matter Here? by 10,000 Maniacs stuck in my head for a while. I only recently discovered the band after I borrowed some of my wife’s CDs, and I’ve been listening to them a lot. This is one of my favorites, and it hits parti...

The Thousand Dollar Tan Line | Book Review Wednesday

Ah, Veronica Mars. The pint-sized detective with the smart mouth and a knack for diving headfirst into trouble is one of my favorite characters of all time, so when my wife bought me the first book in the Veronica Mars novel series, I was overjoyed. And skeptical.

Ten years after graduating from high school in Neptune, California, Veronica Mars is back in the land of sun, sand, crime, and corruption.…[I]t’s spring break, and college students descend on Neptune, transforming the beaches and b...

Authors, Panels, and Shenanigans | Lone Star LesFic Festival Series, Part 1

I promised you all that I would report back about my experience at the Lone Star LesFic Festival after I got back from Austin a few weeks ago, and I’ve just gotten a chance to sit down and do so. This is the first in a series of posts that will discuss everything that caught my attention in Austin, from the festival to the graffiti, native flora, and … well, everything else.

At the LSLFF, I met a lot of amazing authors, and soaked in as much information as I could from the keynote, panels, a...
