I am a Stationery Junkie!

I am such a stationery junkie. Whether it’s letter sets from years gone by, notebooks, pens, erasers, whatever, if it’s pretty, I want it.

Let’s start with what I’ve bought since February.

Unicorn notebook set and long sprial notebook

Unicorn and rainbow pen holders (middle ones) from Kmart for $3 each, goes with my Typo ones

Unicorn sticky notes and erasers, unicorn lights, and some star wands, all from Kmart.

A Smiggle double layered pencil case in my two fave colours.

Top Left: ebay pens. Top Right: Reject Shop journal cards, Typo star purses, Kmart purse/clutch

Bottom Left: Reject Shop manilla folders. Bottom Right: Cheap as Chips (chain store) lips notebooks, op shop blue notebook, Kmart unicorn pencil case (my second) and glitter purse

Top: Reject Shop notebooks and pencil case. I bought as many notebooks as I could, I have about 8 of each.

Bottom: Reject Shop unicorn box set for storing all of my unicorn stuff in.

Top: Cheap as Chips unicorn notepaper and sticky notes, Kmart notebooks. Right is a closer look at the sticky notes.

Found these at Book depository for about $15. A gemstones notecard set.

A4 note purse/folder from Typo for keeping paperwork in.

So, that’s the current batch of normal stationery, except for the writing folios I’m showing you next, and I’m in the middle of buying more planners, so that will come soon, oi.

New books for the new year

While it’s book week here at JDS, I thought I’d throw in the books I’ve bought this year.

Megan Hess. In the last couple of years she has come out with Paris and New York, Through a Fashion Eye

the page edges are gold

And the insides are illustrated.

Of course, I also caught up on my Nancy Drews. This is The Big Lie, a new comic of Nancy and the Hardy Boys

Two Nancy Clue Books

Three Nancy Drew Diaries. I have to say, they’ve been quite childish until The Professor and the Puzzle and The Haunting on Helitrope Lane. The mysteries aren’t as mature and involved as they used to be with other series, the story not as thick and laid out. But these two were clearly written by someone else.

I caught up on the Diaries box set and 2-in-1 graphic novels. These books just keep being repeated and I’ll stop once this incarnation finishes. Apparently there’s a new incarnation coming, so, that will be next.

Iris Apfel, Accidental Icon: Musings of a Geriatric Starlet

I recently came across this book in the ‘latest release’ section of my local library, and since I didn’t have a firm idea of who Iris Apfel actually was, I got it and read it.

The subtitles are apt, she was an accidental icon, only coming to light after she was asked her clothing and fabrics could be displayed in the fashion museum. She, to date, is the only person to be asked.

Having started interior design way back in her twenties, she married Carl Apfel and stared a fabric business as well so she could make the fabrics for her interior design business. That is why she was so famous, for her fabrics. Once the museum happened, she became the accidental icon she is. And she is freakin’ fabulous.

I’ve photographed a few of my fave pages.

Accessories are everywhere…

Barbie’s closet…

I never expected to write books either…

The book is full of pages like these, little witty anecdotes and illustrations.

Completely agree with these below…

How glorious, an amoire for jewels!

It has her story and how she began, as well as meeting her husband and funny stories of her life with him.

Success and regrets

On life…

And I believe this in every way, shape and form!

It’s quite a story, and quite a book. So full of pictures and colour, and definitely a must have if you’re into Iris or fashion in general.

New legal woes with trademarking rubbish!

Back in September 2009 I first blogged about being opposed when it came to trade marks. Well, it’s happened again, nine years later.

Then, it was about me using the word Diva in my jewellery business name. You can read about it here – part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4.

Now, it’s about using the word crown in my publishing house name.

Last year, when I decided to set up my own publishing house for my books, I came up with the name Royal Crown Press. It, like everything I do, was a play on my name.

I bought the business name, the domain name, and set about trade marking as one does.

All was going swimmingly until it was objected against.

Crown Casinos here in Australia opposed my application.

First round, they lost. IP Aus didn’t accept their initial findings and told them to give a more detailed reason why they opposed the name.

They did, and I received the paperwork last week.

Most of it is the same old, same old garbage. Always blaming the public for their lack of comprehension in separating the two companies. Claiming that I have not used the name, claiming that on my website, tiaraking.com.au it states I’m a lifestyle blogger, author of non-fiction books (only half right), jewellery designer etc, and because  I had not yet used the name for any of those things, clearly it was my intention to not carry on with the name.

Dude, I didn’t use the name because I decided to go with another name for my publishing house instead. A press is not for jewellery or blogging, it’s for book manufacturing. And since the process was already in motion, I wasn’t going to stop it, but you clearly didn’t give a shit about the truth.

What dickwanks!

As stated above, I came up with the name, bought the business and domain names, and started setting up the website. No problems with that whatsoever. Then I paid for the trade mark. But, a couple months into doing the website I changed my mind and changed the name of my publishing house. Because  the trade marking process was already going, I let it go. Now this shit is happening .

Personally, I think it’s bullshit. The only thing we have in common is one word.

Crown.

My name is Royal Crown Press.

Theirs is Crown Casino.

Another big multi corp conglomerate  beating down the little people.

I did consider hiring an attorney, but with what money? That makes the big boys think they won. That I won’t fight. No, it makes you fucking arrogant in your attitude. I don’t use the name because  I changed the name and let the trade mark process run it’s course, a course you have now fucked up and it will cost me another $250 to let go of, (after having to give up on two other trade marks I applied for last year, costing me $500 I don’t fucking have) money I do not come by that easily.

I will let it go, one, because  I am the bigger person, two, because  I really don’t need this shit in my life with the shit I have to clean up after with caring for my mother, trying to run a business and make products, and deal with arsehole companies, three, because  it’s not even my business name anymore. It was just going to be an imprint of the company , which, I guess, I’ll have to change now, or try again later when I have the money and power to fight the arseholes of the world.

So, you haven’t won,  because  there was never a fight to win.  I just don’t need one more arsehole in my life to deal with.

What I Did On My First Writing Holiday for 2018

A lot, just not what was to be expected. I expected to write T.K. Wrathbone stories, but just couldn’t get my head into it thanks to Henry Cavill…

Saturday 14 –  I edited the interiors for all six Poems and redid them to my standards, plus did the Bones interiors ready to edit

Sunday 15 – continued the interiors

Monday 16 – started Bones #3 interior for corrections and typos

Tuesday 17 – had the lawn done and finished off Bones #3

Wednesday 18 – started Bones #2 for interior corrections and typos

Thursday 19 – shopping, library

Friday 20 – washing, finished off Bones #2

Saturday 21 – can’t remember what I did, probably more book stuff

Sunday 22 – as above

Monday 23 – tried to write, but it wasn’t coming, thinking about watching Henry Cavill in Man From U.N.C.L.E. later that night

Tuesday 24 – tried to write, but had Henry Cavill in my brain. Damn that man is fine. Redid my novellas and novels interiors instead

Wednesday 25 – again, Henry Cavill, finished off the omnibus edition of Poems

Thursday 26 – shopping, library, Henry Cavill, seriously, dude, stop invading my thoughts, I can’t think…mmm…Henry Cavill…

Friday 27 – washing, blog posts scheduling, Henry Cavill…

Saturday 28 – writing, hopefully, stay away Henry Cavill…

Sunday 29 – ah, bugger it, I did Henry Cavill!

Just joking, but seriously, the man is damn fine, and for this hot-blooded single female, he is such a distraction…

That’s what I recently did on my first writing holiday for the year, no story writing, but lots of other writing, and editing, and formatting and Henry Cavill…

PLANNER MONTH WRAP UP: My Planners and New Book Shelves

In the last two months you have seen my fairly new planner collection, and now I’m going to show you what I did for them, and my new bookshelves that I got just after Christmas, and set up just after new year. It’s taken awhile to get them how I want them, mainly due to all of the planners coming in. I also had to shift down the top shelves so I could line the planners up and move the pink box over to the left shelf.

Here was my planner shelf, before, followed by the back layer of Happy Planner covers and Kikki K and Webster’s boxes, and then the front row of planners consisting of my Websters Color Crush, 3 Recollections, 2 Kikki Ks, Kmart compendium, and mini Happy Planners and half page books.

Now, onto the rest of my shelves from the top down. Here are my books under all three names, copies and proofs, plus some little marquee lights and behind are my extra folios. In the middle are two sunglasses cases.

Top Shelves – The next two shelves are the top two –  glitter boxes and pencil cases on the left and  planners on the right.

Bottom Shelves – All writing folios and notebooks on the left – business folders and pen holders on the right.

Next two shelves

Top Shelves – extra folders and paperwork container on the left – business folders and paperwork container on the right.

Bottom Shelves – Two computers and iPad with cords on the left – computer and mousepad on the right.

Bottom shelves

Top shelves – coloured manuscript boxes on the left – tax and business folders, with shredder on right.

Bottom shelves – computer bags and extra containers on the left, six Sistema containers of business and planner goods. The container is full of paper from my notebooks, and the shoe box is all the goodies to make my goals/travel journal. It will be emptied eventually.

And there you have it. The end of planner month that went for about two months, lol, and my bookshelves that I’ve finally gotten around to showing off. They’re from the Tailor range at Fantastic Furniture for $139 each.

As for the planner collection, oi, thousands…

And never fear, there are more planners on the way…

So, what have you guys recently become addicted to?

PLANNER MONTH: MAMBI’s The Happy Planner Part 9

So, after everything that was frankenplanned, there was still leftovers. I bought, what I thought, was a silver cover, but it ended up being white, which doesn’t really matter, but it’s white, and I hate white. All of the dividers and paper to be used that’s leftover is in here and will stay here.

Now comes a kicker, I had planned on using all of my notebook paper as my planner. My original planner was going to be some big notebook that I could add to. And then I bought all of the planners I did. And then I was going to use the paper from my notebooks, because at the end of the day, what’s the point in having so many notebooks I’m not going to use just because the covers are pretty. So I unrolled them all, kept the covers and put the paper into a big white container for future use.

I did the same with my A4 notebooks, and have the pocket dividers for future use as well.

The good thing about Happy Planners is you can easily add and remove paper. I have the hole punch, and can easily cut down the paper to pop in so I won’t be running out of paper for years. With all of the sticker books, I’ll be able to easily add months and dates, so I’m set for a good five years plus.

What have you guys managed to “frankenplanned” recently.

PLANNER MONTH: MAMBI’S The Happy Planner Part 8

I soon realised that my publishing planner was not going to fit into my blogging/business planner, so, it meant finding another way of doing it.

I managed to FINALLY track down a blue compendium folio case online at Aliexpress. I’d been looking on eBay and any store that sold other colours didn’t sell blue, but thankfully, I found a gorgeous one at Ali. It’s the same size as the others, and has Better Together on the front which is what my original ones had.

I used the Trendsetter hello cover, and used the left over mini discs to put it together, added some Kikki K Letters goodies, put all of my paperwork in the left pockets, and added some paperclips. Stickers are in the back, along with legal papers.

I made up a writing divider with bits and pieces I had collected, and made publishing lists using the page protectors.

I have pockets for notes for all three author names I use, and have Kikki K Letters magnetic bookmarks. I put spare paper in the back for future notes. I have plenty of it after all.

There you have it. A simple author/publishing/business planner and folio in gorgeous colours.

How many folios and planners do you guys have for the many arms and legs of your business?

PLANNER MONTH: MAMBI’S The Happy Planner Part 7

My goal was to “frankenplan” these four planners from the Happy Planner. Two Glam Girls, and two Trendsetters.

My second goal, was to track down one of these Lilly Pulitzer Lagoon Agenda Folios. I originally bought one in December, but the owner wasn’t there to send it, and I got a refund. I then found another in late January, and the goal was to use it for my planner.

It’s very similar to the other business kit compendiums I have found and bought, but a bit smaller. More for iPads and tech than A4 notebooks. But, after seeing someone on YouTube using one for their planners, I tracked it down, frankenplanned my planner, and here she is…the cover and the first divider which I added the lips sticker to. I also added diamond stickers and a magnetic bookmark to the skinny dashboard. The left side is perfect for my papers, paperclips and extra stickers.

I use the page protectors for my work schedules, passwords, things I need whenever I’m online. Yes, I made an internet planner folder three years ago, and can be seen here , but I was getting sick and tired of getting it down everyday and wanted something smaller that I could have sitting on the table beside me. I have inspirational journal cards throughout, and have a work, blogging, and diary section. For the blogging section, I use a Shimelle camera clip and keep that on the blogging notes section so I can get to it easy.

Then comes a note section with pocket dividers, and then comes the diary. I’m not happy with the divider I decorated, might do something different down the track.

The diary section has the Glam Girl skinny dashboard which I stuck a gold lip sticker on, and added the glam girl animal heart bookmark on. I also added a #nofilter journal card. I use the trendsetter dashboard to mark the day I’m up to, a pink unicorn clip from Shimelle with a glam girl bookmark, and a pink star hairclip to keep the pages together. I can also attach any notes for the week to it.

I have inspo card through out, including my Kikki K Love Life set, and at the back is a section for notes and extras.

I found these notebooks at a local chain store, and have my Faber Castel pens in the pocket. They’re great for using on these planners. I’ve stuck stickers, especially diamond, and Shimelle’s glitter spots all over the place.

And there you have it, my new blogging/business planner all tucked away neatly in my AMAZINGLY GORGEOUS Lilly Pulitzer folio.

Next time, my publishing planner, because, well, everything just didn’t fit, and it wouldn’t zip up, so it needed to be divided.
