SFSF Awards 2017

What a great way to end the year. Pacific Monsters receive an award from the lovely people at Sheffield FSF. Thank you!

Sheffield Fantasy & Science Fiction Social Club

Again, it’s been something of a quiet year for SFSF. We’ve been hibernating and plotting, and working on lots of other things, and fitting the Socials in with everything else on the calendar proved to be one step too far – our apologies for that, but we will be back in the new year, promise!

Meanwhile, it’s time for the annual...

My bookish 2017

[image error]As the year is ending, here is a short take on my bookish 2017.

Fictional writing
Sadly it has been a year when not much has happened when it comes to my fictional writing. Though I have written some, including starting on a novel and several shorts, I haven’t finished anything for publication. I blame it on being a very tough year getting adjusted to both a new dayjob and being back in Norway. Moving between countries is not for the faint-hearted, I’ll say.

Anyhow, hopefully 2018 will be a m...

Pacific Monsters is out!

[image error]I’m delighted and happy to tell you that Pacific Monsters is out. Lush art and 14 dark short stories and graphic stories written by authors from Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and Guam.

I am so proud of the book. It has been a wonderful project to work on for the last year. The book presents to you many monsters from the Pacific region I have grown quite fond of. Hope you will enjoy reading about them as much as I did working on this book.

This is the fourth volume of The Fox Spirit Books of...

My first performance in Norway as author and book editor

[image error]Happy to tell you that I will talk at Norcon in Oslo this weekend. This is my first performance as author and editor in Norway.

The Norcon is the Norwegian Convention of Science Fiction and Fantasy, which has run since 1975. It is the largest festival for science fiction in Norway, which brings in fandom, academics and enthusiasts from across genres and ages. This year’s event is in association with Torshovtheatret’s theatre production of George Orwell’s 1984.

On Sunday 26th I will talk (in E...

Honourable mentions for Asian Monsters stories

[image error] I am so thrilled to tell you that three of the stories from Asian Monsters are on Ellen Datlow’s list of best horror of the year – honourable mentions from 2016.

Ellen Datlow is award-winning editor of more than hundred anthologies, including the annual Best Horror of the year and she also makes a list every year of recommended horror readings. It is quite the honour that she reads your fiction, not to mention recommends it. I am very pleased she read our monster tales.

From Asian Monsters s...

British Fantasy Awards

[image error]Asian Monsters didn’t receive the British Fantasy Award. But I am so very humble, grateful and happy it was shortlisted to the award. Thank you so much to all who voted for it and made it possible.

I think the winner – People of Colour Destroy Science Fiction, – edited by Nalo Hopkinson and Kristine Ong Muslim – was a wonderful choice. And huge congratulations to all the other award winners, so many excellent names like Georgina Bruce (Best Short Fiction), Daniele Serra (Best Artist) and Grim...
