When her career stalls, however, she’s back in town and working with her high school sweetheart, Noah Kidwell, on his company’s special collaboration. This time, though, he’s not letting her get away. Will they be able to forgive the past and forge a new future? Or is it time to move on for good?

MY REVIEW* This review contains a SPOILER ALERT.
Ms. Campbell puts a different spin on a familiar trope. As a designer the collaboration between Zoey and Noah held special interest to me. But I just couldn’t get into the story, or the characters. One issues in particular —SPOILER ALERT—was Zoey’s cousin, Amy. All through the book, the author refers to her as Zoey’s cousin. But she explains that Amy’s parents died when she was a baby and Zoey’s parents adopted her. For a passing moment, the author refers to the girls as sisters. It totally took this reader out of the story. —SPOILER ALERT OVER—
The back and forth between Zoey and Noah volleyed from professional and into personal territory. And, of course, old feelings stirred. Their professional collaboration developed nicely, and the project was a smashing success. I was particularly glad that Noah saw through the pretense Zoey’s boss tried to stage. And especially glad at the final resolution Ms. Campbell offered her characters, a very realistic solution that made everyone happy—except, of course, Zoey’s conniving boss.

BLOGWORDS – Tuesday 26 July 2022 – TUESDAY REVIEWS-DAY – BOOK REVIEW – BRIDGES, BOOKS, AND BONES by PAT NICHOLS
Following the premier of her first movie role, Rachel Streetman Bricker flies to romantic Venice, Italy, to star in a major motion picture. The six-week trip forces her to face the grim truth. She’ll spend her first wedding anniversary an ocean away from Charlie. Adding to her anxiety, a ruthless publicist initiates a social media fiasco that threatens her reputation in Willow Falls, the town she’s grown to love. When Rachel befriends her female costar’s teenage daughter and learns how her mother’s lifestyle affects her family, she questions if living the dream comes at a price she’s unwilling to pay.
Rachel’s twin, Emily Hayes can’t get a break. The release of her second novel about Willow Falls is upstaged when a bulldozer unearths a skull and buried bones. The discovery compels curious residents to set up camp at the dig site. After a crime investigation television crew arrives on the scene, the sheriff recruits Emily and the new mayor to shadow the lead investigator, nicknamed She Dragon. In a town where everyone knows everyone’s business, will outsiders, a decades-old letter, and rumors from the past help solve the crime or force the most vocal resident to flee from shame?
The fourth book in the women’s fiction Willow Falls series reads well as a standalone.

MY REVIEWWho doesn’t enjoy a visit with friends in Willow Falls. And who wouldn’t be excited about a trip to Venice, Italy with a friend!
That’s exactly what Ms. Nichols delivers in this story.
Well, that and a murder or two.
This series is something of a trifecta for this reader—I’m an actress and an author and, though not a twin, I have always had a fascination with twins and multiples!
It seems both twins, Rachel and Emily, are facing professional hurdles at every turn. A twisted publicity stunt in Venice and a costar who lives up to the playboy-actor persona. The author tosses a surprise twist Rachel’s way, though. [SPOILER]
And the “She Dragon” who thrives on gossip upstaging poor Emily’s book release.
Then there’s the bones. First a skull, raising enough questions. Then the discovery of more bones, and the questions double. But gossip blows the stories out of proportion, especially even more bones are discovered.
Ms. Nichols keeps her reader guessing, hopping from Venice to bones buried at a dig site to a book release. Not a dull moment in this story, nay in this whole series. Can’t wait to what this author brings us next.
CONFESSION: I dove into this book with murder in mind—literarily speaking. I started this book expecting a cozy murder mystery. I kept reading, waiting for more details about the human bones they discovered. Especially when they discovered more bones. I’ve read all three previous books in this series and, I admit, I wondered what Ms. Nichols was doing.
Then I remembered the title, and DUH! There’s Bridges and Books in there, too. I felt so chagrinned. I mean, I was totally enjoying the story. And of course, the characters are all old friends by now.
As I read, I realized, of course, that Ms. Nichols had deftly woven three seeming disparate threads into one single braid. And a story that grabbed me and held tight.

Welcome to the Barks & Beans Cafe, a quaint place where folks pet shelter dogs while enjoying a cup of java…and where murder sometimes pays a visit.
Thanksgiving is on the way, and Macy’s thrilled when her boyfriend Titan says he’s coming to town for a week-long visit. She plans to take him to some of her favorite haunts, including the sprawling caverns nearby.
But when the lights go out during their underground tour and a local society darling plunges to her death, Macy can’t shake the feeling that the cave’s slippery floors weren’t entirely to blame. She taps into the admittedly limited skills of her upscale barista, Milo, to do a little snooping in the moneyed circles he moves in. When he unearths a sinkhole of lies, Macy slides straight toward a killer who’s not about to stop until every leak is sealed…permanently.
Join siblings Macy and Bo Hatfield as they sniff out crimes in their hometown…with plenty of dogs along for the ride! The Barks & Beans Cafe cozy mystery series features a small town, an amateur sleuth, and no swearing or graphic scenes. Find all the books at heatherdaygilbert.com!

MY REVIEWI always love visiting with Macy and Bo; I feel like they’ve become friends.
It’s always an adventure when you’re with Macy Hatfield. She’s smart and witty and inquisitive, picking up on subtle hints. And not just when there’s a crime afoot—which seems to happen with unsettling frequency in their neck of the woods.
She does seem to stumble into the midst of murder, though. And even though Bo is the former agent, Macy seems to have a knack for solving even the most evasive of curiosities.
This reader might be a tad but jealous—visiting caverns is on my bucket list! The dark wouldn’t bother me—unless it wasn’t supposed to happen. The scream, the thud, the clues left behind. Seems straightforward enough. Only not to Macy. And of course, she just couldn’t leave well enough alone. Milo steps into the spotlight in this particular story, using his society connections to do some snooping where Macy couldn’t tread.
Ms. Gilbert mixes it up with a mélange of characters, both regulars in the series and “walk-ons,” aka plenty of red herrings; every time I think I have it figured out, here comes another red flag or clue or odd behavior.
As always, Ms. Gilbert throws enough wrinkles into the story to make the ending a surprise twist. Always a page-turner, I look forward to the next book from this author.

MY REVIEWTHIS BOOK! Oh, my word! Drama and history and heartbreak, oh my!
Haven’t we all failed in some way, made some mistake or misstep that changed our life forever, whether for the good or the not-so-good? Things that Father God takes and makes beautiful? I know in my life there are a few…
I so appreciated the journey Emily faced. First battling, then a broken heart and anger. Disappointment, resentment.
But the love and acceptance she found with her Gram changed everything. I especially appreciated learning some of her family history; I have been looking into my own ancestry, and have learned much. Mostly, I cherished the bond that developed and grew between Emily and her Gram
But Atta’s story! My heart ached for her. Bearing a guilt that wasn’t hers [SPOILER] and adopting a mother’s role to her baby sister, Gertie. Shielding her from [SPOILER.]
When she is diagnosed with a dread disease, her life and her dreams crumble. Banned into exile and forced to leave Gertie behind—living in fear and danger—Atta fights to overcome the illness and get back to her sister.
Dr. Mayhew is banished, not because of illness, but because of [SPOILER.] As he struggles to find a cure, he also struggles to come to terms with what his life has become. And rails against faith in a god who doesn’t seem to care.
As first one treatment, then another, fails to provide the miracle cure he’s seeking for Atta and the other patients on the island, he learns more of himself and his own heart.
Ms. Chiavaroli gives the reader a gripping and heart wrenching story, one that elicits tears in the reader. Each page filled with vivid prose and a great urgency, drawing the reader to the last page.
