Book review now up!

Hello, Write Edge readers! I’ve posted my newest book review for you. Today I share my thoughts on The Renaissance of Gwen Hathaway by YA author Ashley Schumacher. Here’s the opening to my review:

With the upcoming anniversary of her mother’s death, a teenager is determined to spend her summer in introspection. When she meets a boy who insists that their meeting is fate, the teen realizes she’ll have to decide whether fate is something that happens to her or something she creates. Author Ashley Schumacher returns with her trademark wry humor and surprising characters in the sweet, albeit quiet, book The Renaissance of Gwen Hathaway.

Also, if you haven’t already, get your copy of my award-winning holiday novella for grownups, The Truth About Elves!

Have a great day, readers!

A little later in the day, but…

Good evening, Write Edge readers! I hope you all had a lovely weekend. It’s Monday, albeit a little later than I typically like to post, but I’m here!

First up, this week’s short fiction. It’s the second Monday of the month, which means writing in second person. If you’re not a writer, using second person typically means writing with the word “you” a lot. It’s where the narrator is addressing the reader and essentially pulling them into the story.

Here’s the excerpt to this week’s short story, which I think demonstrates:

When I touched the glass, though, and realized my flesh wasn’t burning and that you could see me, I knew the wizard had lied. Had you met him? Had he lied to you too? If he had lied about this, what else had he lied about?

Read the whole story now on The Write Edge Writing Workshop!

On Wednesday, I’ll share my latest book review. Earlier this year, the book The Renaissance of Gwen Hathaway by Ashley Schumacher released, and in the middle of the week I’ll let you know what I thought of it. Find that review (and plenty of others) on The Write Edge Bookshelf!

Finally, it’s back to Instagram on Friday for all sorts of fun writing and non-writing posts. Also, I’m quite proud of the fact that today I set up a Linktree for myself. Now all of my most important links are in one handy-dandy place. Check it out here for purchasing links and more, and feel free to share it!

Have a lovely week, readers! Hug someone you love this week. Life is way too short to wait.

Book review now up!

Hello, Write Edge readers! I’ve posted my latest book review for you. Today I share my thoughts on A Most Agreeable Murder by debut author Julia Seales. Here’s the opening to my post:

A young woman attending the event of the season gets a major shock when someone is murdered. As the weather threatens anyone who leaves, the woman and the other guests will have to wait to get help knowing a murderer waits with them. Julia Seales hits the perfect pitch between satire and historical fiction in her debut novel A Most Agreeable Murder.

Hello, July!

Good evening, Write Edge readers! I hope your week has started off well. For my U.S. readers, I hope you have fun plans for the Fourth tomorrow. Did you know Americans eat an average of 150 million hot dogs on the Fourth of July?? Whatever you plan to eat or drink, I urge you to do it responsibly and safely. It’s a great time for amazing food and gathering with loved ones. Let’s keep it to that!

I’ve posted this week’s haiku, which speaks straight to the fact that I was trying really hard to come up with what to write. So I decided to write about that. 😀 Read the original poem now on The Write Edge Writing Workshop!

On Wednesday I’ll have a brand new release for you. This week I’ll let you know what I thought of A Most Agreeable Murder by Julia Seales. Come back in the middle of the week to read my review on The Write Edge Bookshelf!

And, finally, Instagram on Friday. Check out what I’m reading for next week and more fun pictures, including more shots connected to the Next Generation Indie Book Awards. I’m just so proud of The Truth About Elves! If you haven’t already, you can order you own autographed copy now.

Also, my publisher, Atmosphere Press, did a fun author interview with me. Read it here now!

Have a wonderful Fourth of July! For those of you not celebrating but are in the Northern Hemisphere, stay hydrated and in the shade. And don’t forget your sunscreen!

Hug a loved one this week, readers. Life is short and precious!

The last week of June!

Hello, Write Edge readers! It’s the last week of June, and that means we’re pretty much halfway through the year. Summer vacation is in full swing, and so are lots of good things here on the blog!

Last week I went to the winners’ reception of the Next Generation Indie Book Awards to pick up the award for Best Novella for The Truth About Elves. (Click on the link for your autographed copy.) What an amazing experience! If you want to check out the full list of winners, click here. On Friday I’ll share some pictures on Instagram of the experience!

In the meantime, it’s the last Monday of the month and that means our monthly writers’ showcase. Read some micro fiction, some empowering fiction, and see some beautiful photos. Go now to The Write Edge Writing Workshop to read/see all of this month’s selections!

On Wednesday I’ll share a brand new book review with you. British humor writer Nick Spalding released his latest novel, Old Boys, recently, and I’ll share my thoughts on the book in the middle of the week. Check it out on The Write Edge Bookshelf!

And, finally, on Instagram, as promised, there will be photos from this year’s Next Generation Indie Book Awards, what I’m reading for next week’s review, and more. Check out previous posts on Instagram with my handle, @EktaRGarg, or on my Facebook author page.

Have a wonderful week, readers, and remember to tell a loved one you care. Life is short!

A story and a book review!

Good evening, Write Edge readers! I realize it’s Wednesday already (and almost the end of Wednesday at that!), but to make up for it I have both my short story and my book review for you this evening. All is good in my corner of the world; just trying to catch up with the kids back home after their extended visit with the grandparents. 😀

First this week’s short story. This week was the third Monday of the month, which meant writing something that emphasized three items. Here’s an excerpt of my piece:

Asha drops the clipboard on my desk, and it clatters. The pen comes loose from its slot at the top and slips to the floor. My sister leans down for it then drops it on top of the half-finished form.

“I’m not ready,” she says, her eyebrow pinching, her sorrow brimming in her eyes. “I can’t do this.”

Read the whole story now on The Write Edge Writing Workshop!

Secondly, I’ve got my review for you of The Edge of Sleep by Jake Emanuel, Willie Block, and Jason Gurley. Here’s the opening to my post:

A night security guard and his best friend discover a terrible fact: people are dying in their sleep with no known cause or explanation. As they work to figure out what’s causing the deaths, the security guard begins to realize the only way to fight the mysterious murderous force is for him to face his worst nightmares. Authors Jake Emanuel, Willie Block, and Jason Gurley bring a popular podcast drama to the page in the sometimes interesting, semi-successful book The Edge of Sleep.

That’s it from my desk this evening, readers. Talk to you again soon!

(And tell someone you care that you love them. Make the most of these opportunities while you still can.)

Have a great night!

E.R.G.

Book review now up!

Hello, Write Edge readers! I’ve posted my latest book review for you. Today I’m sharing my thoughts on On Earth as It Is on Television by debut author Emily Jane. Here’s the opening to my post:

When alien spaceships appear and then leave without any contact, the event makes a nursing home patient, a working class dad, and a spoiled teen reason to wonder if their lives really will ever be the same. They’re also afraid to find out what happens if nothing changes. Author Emily Jane brings to life her quirky, odd premise about what happens when the aliens are among us in her excellent debut On Earth as It Is on Television.

Hug your loved ones, readers, and tell someone you love them this week.

Have a good evening!
