Catching up mid-week!
Hello, Write Edge readers, and happy Wednesday! We have beautiful sunshine here in Central Illinois this week, and it’s the kind of weather where it’s easy to believe anything is possible. I may have gotten a little distracted on Monday, but I’m back with both this week’s short story as well as my book review.
First things first: This week I read the middle grade adventure book Olivia and the Gentleman from Outer Space by Moses Yuriyvich Mikheyev. Here’s the opening to my post:
A young girl meets a space traveler who can help her father with his terminal illness. In order to get the remedy, the girl must go with the traveler deep into the universe to help him bring it back to Earth before it’s too late. Author Moses Yuriyvich Mikheyev gives readers a sweet but ultimately unsatisfying book that follows a series of incidents instead of forming a cohesive plot in Olivia and the Gentleman from Outer Space.

Now, to go back to Monday’s post, I’ve shared my short story for you all for this week. It was the second Monday of the month two days ago, which meant my story in second person. When I read the prompt for this one, the narrator of this story came immediately to my mind. It’s funny how our creative sides work, isn’t it? Here’s an excerpt:
Have you met the other neighbors? No? Well, I guess moving can be busy, although with you being single and all, I figured you would have finished your unpacking by now. … Oh, really? All the way in the city, huh? Then I guess unpacking can wait. Even you career gals need a break now and then.

I’ll be back on Friday with new Instagram posts and all things writing (and not) from my corner of the world. Have a fantastic day, readers!

Book review now up!
Hello, Write Edge readers! I’ve posted my latest book review for you. Today I share my thoughts on the brand new Sally Hepworth book, The Soulmate. Check out the opening to my post:
When a woman jumps to her death from a cliff, the couple who witnesses her suicide are horrified. Soon enough, however, the wife begins to suspect her husband is involved. As she works to pick apart their lives, present and past, the wife must face the reality that her “perfect” life isn’t so perfect after all. Author Sally Hepworth’s newest thriller provides a satisfying slow burn in The Soulmate.

Also, I’m joining two other Atmosphere authors tomorrow to talk about our books. I’ll read an excerpt from In the Heart of the Linden Wood and answer any and all writing questions thrown my way! Click here to register for the event on Zoom at 2 p.m. Central.

Back on track again — finally!
Hello, Write Edge readers! I’m so glad, and grateful, to be sitting at my desk once again. The month of March flew by in a blurry, dizzying haze of illness, travel, and falling behind on deadlines. Now, I’m back on track again — finally!
First things first: this Thursday, my publisher, Atmosphere Press, is holding a virtual event for me and two other Atmosphere authors, and you’re invited to join the party! Click here to register for this author chat, which takes place on Thursday, April 6 at 2 p.m. Central time. I hope you can make it! And if you haven’t ordered your copy of In the Heart of the Linden Wood yet, go to my author website and do that now!
Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.
It’s the first Monday of the month, and in 2023 I’m posting new haiku every first Monday. Go now to The Write Edge Writing Workshop to read my little poem.
On Wednesday, I’ll share my thoughts on the latest book by domestic thriller author Sally Hepworth. Tomorrow is the release of her latest novel, The Soulmate, and I’ll let you know in the middle of the week what I thought of it. Check it out on The Write Edge Bookshelf!
And on Friday it’s back to Instagram and all the writing and non-writing pieces of my life. Check out previous posts by going to Instagram and using my handle, @EktaRGarg, to find me.
Thank you, as always, for your patience, time, and support, readers! It means the world to me. Have a great week!

When topsy-turvy makes you take a break
Hello, Write Edge readers! Whew, can I just say that ever since March has started, I’ve had quite a topsy-turvy month. Last week was no exception, and that means that this week I’ll need to take a break from blogging to catch up on other things. But no worries! I’ll be back next Monday with more of the content you love.
Thanks for your patience and understanding. Have a great week!

Back at my computer again!
Hello, Write Edge readers! I lost a whole week last week due to being sick and a host of things demanding my attention (which are harder to do when you’re not feeling well.) I’m feeling about 95 percent better, though, so I’m back at my computer again — finally!
I’ve posted my newest short fiction for you. Here’s a quick excerpt:
The outsiders found us charming; quaint. One outsider publication said we “reminded visitors of a simpler time that emphasized the importance of the family and community unit.” After that article, a few outsiders moved to the village. They decided they wanted to “get back to basics,” whatever that meant.

In the last two weeks, I’ve promised you two book reviews and wasn’t able to post either of them. Now I’m left with the dilemma of what review to post this Wednesday. I’ll be mulling that tomorrow, and you’ll get to see the answer in the middle of the week. But I’ll do my level best to at least one to you this week.
Speaking of books, if you haven’t gotten your copy yet of In the Heart of the Linden Wood, you can order an autographed copy from my author website. You can also enter the Goodreads giveaway for a Kindle copy — the giveaway runs for one more week. Enter now, and be sure to tell everyone you know to enter too!
On Friday it’s back to Instagram and what I’ve been up to in my writing and non-writing life. I hope to have some fun photos to share with you then.
It’s so good to be back. Have a great week, readers!

Instagram posts now up!
Hello, Write Edge readers! Boy, this week started and ended with turbulent weather — high winds and snow hurrying to come to the ground as if there was some sort of race going on (only to melt a couple of hours later.) I’m still running my computer off my cell phone’s hotspot, but there’s a good chance that may get fixed tomorrow (yay!)
In the meantime, I’ve got Instagram posts for you. Check out what I’m reading for next week’s review and what I got in the mail this week! See those on Insta with my handle, @EktaRGarg, or on my Facebook author page. You can see previous posts in both places too.
Have a fantastic weekend, readers! (And if I get to it, I’ll definitely post my review of Momo Arashima Steals the Sword of the Wind tomorrow.)

A blustery end to the month!
Good evening, Write Edge readers! Today has been a blustery day with all the excitement of tornados touching down in our area (although, as far as I know, no damage was done and no one was hurt.) The wind and thunderstorm knocked out our wifi, and I’m currently running my computer off the hotspot on my phone. But, again, I’m extremely grateful that that is the only little thing I had to deal with today. We’re safe and sound with the power and water still up and running. Things could be a lot worse.
Still, we march onward! Today is the last Monday of the month, which means our writers’ showcase. There were some poems that caught my eye this month (I know! Me! Poetry!), so I’m sharing those with you along with a piece of micro fiction that made me nod because of how good it was. Check out all of those now on The Write Edge Writing Workshop!
This past Friday I previewed the book I’m reviewing for Wednesday. Find out what I thought of the middle grade novel, Momo Arashima Steals the Sword of the Wind by Misa Sugiura. You can read that review in the middle of the week on The Write Edge Bookshelf!
And, of course, on Friday it’s back to Instagram and all of my writing/non-writing posts. Check out previous Insta pics with my handle, @EktaRGarg, or on my Facebook author page.
Finally, I have signed copies of my own book ready and waiting to come to your home — all you have to do is order one for yourself! Read more about In the Heart of the Linden Wood and order your copy here.
Have a fantastic week, readers!
