Book review now up!
Hello, Write Edge readers! My latest book review is now up for you. Today I share my thoughts on The Other Mothers by Katherine Faulkner. Here’s the opening to my post:
A young mother gets caught up in an elite social group where secrets center on a dead nanny. As the mother fights to keep up with the other women and to establish her career, she’s drawn into the secrets while holding a few of her own. Author Katherine Faulkner keeps readers guessing until the final pages in her latest novel The Other Mothers.

It’s December!
Hello, Write Edge readers! It’s December — the last month of 2023. What a year it’s been! My second “book baby” released, and I’ve enjoyed hearing from readers who love the heart and spirit of In the Heart of the Linden Wood. If you haven’t checked it out yet, please do and let me know what you think.
It’s the first Monday of the month, and that means my original haiku. I wasn’t sure, when I started the year with this commitment to poetry, how it would turn out, but I’ve found that I’ve really enjoyed it. Read my latest offering now on The Write Edge Writing Workshop!
On Friday, I shared my #bookreviewpreview on Instagram for the newest book to join The Write Edge Bookshelf. In the middle of the week, I’ll review The Other Mothers by Katherine Faulkner. Come back to find out what I thought of the thriller this Wednesday.
Finally, this coming Friday I’ll go back to Instagram for new posts on writing/editing/everything else. If you’ve missed previous posts, check them out on the app with my handle, @EktaRGarg, or by going to my Facebook author page.
If you’re in the Northern Hemisphere, I hope you’re staying warm. Southern Hemisphere readers, I hope it’s not roasting where you are. And to all of you, thank you for your continued support!

Book review and Instagram posts now up!
A good evening to you, Write Edge readers! Just a quick note tonight that my latest book review of The Mystery Guest by Nita Prose is now up. Here’s the opening to my post:
When a reclusive author drops dead at a hotel press event, suspicion gets cast on the employees working there. The head maid who has had experience with sordid matters before knows she’ll have to do her best again to make sure the wrong people aren’t accosted for the crime. Author Nita Prose brings back the lovable, dry wit of Molly the Maid in the stellar companion novel, The Mystery Guest.

Ready for the last week of November?
Hello, Write Edge readers! For those of you celebrating, I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving last week. I was out of town and wasn’t able to post (despite every intention of doing so,) but I’m back at my desk and ready to talk to all of you again!
First up is this month’s writers’ showcase. It’s the last Monday of the month, so you get to see some of the stories by other writers that caught my eye in November. Read them now on the home page of The Write Edge Writing Workshop!
In the middle of the week, I’ll share a brand new book review with you. Editor-turned-author Nita Prose is back with another novel about Molly the Maid in The Mystery Guest. Does it live up to the first book? Find out Wednesday on The Write Edge Bookshelf!
Lastly, I’ll go back to Instagram to share with you my latest pictures from the writing and non-writing bits and pieces of my week. Missed previous posts? Find all of them now on the app with my handle, @EktaRGarg, or on my Facebook author page.
It’s really chilly here in Central Illinois, readers, so you better believe I’ll be bundling up this week. For those of you in the Northern Hemisphere, please do the same. Stay safe and well.
Have a great week!

Book review now posted!
Hi, Write Edge readers! I’ve posted my latest book review for you. Last week I teased in my #bookreviewpreview on Instagram that I’d be reading and reviewing There Should Have Been Eight by Nalini Singh. Here’s the opening to my post:
Friends gather at a century-old estate to reminisce about old times but run into trouble when the weather turns harsh and mysterious forces begin taking them out one by one. If the group wants to survive their reunion, they’ll have to get past old grudges and trust one another…even as one of them could be a murderer. Author Nalini Singh takes a little too long to build the suspense but keeps it tight after the halfway mark in her latest release There Should Have Been Eight.

The calendar says November; the weather says “April”
Hello, Write Edge readers! I don’t know about the weather where you live, but here in Central Illinois we’re enjoying some spring-like temperatures. I keep having to look at the calendar to remind myself that we are, in fact, in the second full week of November. Thanksgiving is next week, for crying out loud!
Regardless, cold or hot or pleasantly warm, I’m back with a week full of new content for you. First up is this week’s short story. It’s the second Monday of the month, and in 2023 I’ve dedicated all second Mondays to writing in second person (“you said” instead of “I said,” which would be first person, or “she said,” which would be third person.) Here’s an excerpt from today’s latest flash:
Anyway, they say that one night Jacob couldn’t take it anymore with Sarah’s complaining. She’d been asking for extra coin, you see, to buy some more flour. But Jacob had already given her all the coin she would need for the month. Why would she need more?

On Friday I teased my latest #bookreviewpreview. This Wednesday I’ll let you know what I thought of There Should Have Been Eight by Nalini Singh. Check that out in the middle of the week on The Write Edge Bookshelf.
Finally, at the end of the week it’s more Instagram posts from my writing and non-writing lives. If you’ve missed previous posts, you can catch up on the app with my handle, @EktaRGarg, or on my Facebook author page.

Book review now posted!
Hello, Write Edge readers! I’ve posted my latest review for you. Today I share my thoughts on The Bitter Past by Bruce Borgos. Here’s the opening to my review:
A sheriff in a Nevada desert town arrives at a crime scene only to find out that the deceased, a retired federal agent, was connected to a decades-old case. As the sheriff uses his limited resources to figure out why someone would want to kill a retired federal agent, he discovers that his small town is hiding some big secrets. Author Bruce Borgos gives readers a protagonist who is easy to root for, even if he induces a few eye rolls, in his debut and series launch The Bitter Past.

Finally back after a break!
Good evening, Write Edge readers! It’s been two weeks, I know, since I’ve posted anything. I didn’t intend for this break to be so long; it just sort of happened to…well…happen. But I’m glad I took it. Sometimes, as today’s entry for the Workshop indicates, a break is good.
Speaking of which, I’ve posted my haiku for this month. In what I’m sure is breaking all sorts of poetry rules, I’ve written a multi-stanza haiku set. Someone told me once that haiku is traditionally only one stanza, and I fully respect that, I do. There’s a beauty in the restraint of one stanza, 17 syllables, trying to capture everything on one’s heart and mind.
However, there’s also a certain satisfaction in breaking the rules. Check out my rule-breaking poetry now on The Write Edge Writing Workshop!
Also, because I’ve been so quiet online, I didn’t post a #bookreviewpreview this past week on Instagram. In the middle of the week, though, I’ll share my thoughts on The Bitter Past by debut author Bruce Borgos. Find out what I thought of this novel on Wednesday on The Write Edge Bookshelf!
Finally, yes, I will go back to Instagram this Friday. Find out what I’m reading and what else I’m up to in my writing and non-writing hours. There’s no telling what I’ll get up to this week, so you can find out along with me on Friday on Instagram!
Thank you for being there, for letting me take these breaks, and for welcoming me back, readers! Have a fantastic week!

Book review now up!
Hello, Write Edge readers! I hope you’re having a great week. I’ve posted my latest book review for you. Today I share my thoughts on The Exchange by John Grisham. Here’s the opening to my post:
Fifteen years after the implosion of the firm where he worked, lawyer Mitch McDeere is faced with another confounding situation. As he races across the world to beat a deadline, he finds himself reminiscing about his previous practice. Author John Grisham brings back the character that established him as a pioneer in legal thrillers in a sequel that doesn’t measure up to the original work in the lackluster novel The Exchange: After the Firm.

Also, this Friday I’m signing copies of In the Heart of the Linden Wood at the fabulous Litchfield Books in Pawleys Island! If you happen to be in the Myrtle Beach/Pawleys Island area this weekend, come say hello!
Have a great rest of the week, readers!
