Happy Earth Day — read about my magic trees!

Good evening, Write Edge readers. I hope it’s a little warmer where you all are. We’re coming close to the end of April in Central Illinois, but it’s still a touch cool here. No snow — it’s too warm for that (I think) — that familiar chill in the air.

Nevertheless, we soldier on. I’ve posted my latest haiku for you as I spend this year processing grief and life after my dad’s death. Sometimes these poems are serious. Sometimes, like today, they’re a little more playful (because I’m able to find happiness in the little things.) Check out my poem now on The Write Edge Writing Workshop.

Last week on my Instagram #bookreviewpreview, I shared what I’m reading this week. On Wednesday find out what I thought of Darling Girls, the latest by domestic thriller author Sally Hepworth. You’ll see that review on The Write Edge Bookshelf.

And speaking of Instagram, it’s back to the photo app at the end of the week. Check out bits and pieces from my writing and non-writing events. Missed previous posts? Find them now by using my handle, @EktaRGarg.

And because it is Earth Day, if you’re looking for books connected to nature, I recommend my original fairy tale for grownups, In the Heart of the Linden Wood. As I use my writing to connect grief, magic, and hope, I also want to reach all of you who have experienced the first, wished for the second, and are looking for the third. Get your autographed copy today from my author website.

Have a good week, readers, and remember to tell a loved one you care about them. Life is too short not to.

Book review now up

Hello, Write Edge readers. Today I’m sharing my thoughts on The Sweet Blue Distance by Sara Donati. Here’s the opening to my review:

A nurse-midwife takes a job in the pre-Civil War wild west to help others and escape her own trauma. The journey challenges her to reframe what she knows of love, her sense of security, and an impending conflict that threatens to tear a country apart. Author Sara Donati takes her time to build relationships and a plot that are well worth the wait in her latest book The Sweet Blue Distance.

Read the whole review now on The Write Edge Bookshelf.

Have a great week, readers, and remember: tell a loved one you care about them. Life is too short not to.

The only two certainties in life: death and taxes

Good evening, Write Edge readers, and for those of you in the United States, happy tax day (cue groans and scrambling for last-minute receipts and returns.) It’s Monday, which means my weekly haiku. Today I managed to work in both of life’s certainties. Check it out now on The Write Edge Writing Workshop.

Last week I shared in my #bookreviewpreview that I’m currently reading The Sweet Blue Distance by Sara Donati. On Wednesday I’ll post my review of the historical fiction book. Find out what I thought of it on The Write Edge Bookshelf.

Finally, on Friday, it’s back to Instagram and all the fun little pieces of my writing and non-writing life. Missed previous posts? Look for me on the app with my handle, @EktaRGarg.

I hope, for those of you who filed today, that it went smoothly. Remember to tell a loved on you care about them, readers. Life is too short not to.

Book review now up

Hello, Write Edge readers. I’ve posted my latest book review for you. Today I share my thoughts on A Better World by Sarah Langan. Check out the opening to my post:

In a dying world plagued by the worst of pollution and the downfall of governments, one family joins an elite community where food is always plentiful and everyone is always healthy. In return, they must sacrifice their personalities and morals even if they witness something worse than what’s going on “outside.” Author Sarah Langan returns with a clever satirical premise that ends up stretching the point and dragging the pace in her newest book, A Better World.

Read the whole review now on The Write Edge Bookshelf.

Tell a loved one you care about them this week, readers. Life is too short not to.

Eclipse Day and more

Hello, Write Edge readers. It really was one for the history books today; Central Illinois was in the path of near-totality of the eclipse — we got to see 97.9 percent — and it was truly a fantastical experience. Who knows, it might inspire a story idea or two in the future…?

In the meantime, I’m sticking to the normal routine for the blog. I’ve posted my latest haiku for you; it’s my latest attempt to use this micro poetry form to work through my feelings about all that’s happened recently. Check it out now on The Write Edge Writing Workshop.

Last week I teased my latest book review in Friday’s #bookreviewpreview. On Wednesday, I’ll share my thoughts on A Better World by Sarah Langan. Find it in the middle of the week on The Write Edge Bookself.

Then, on Friday, it’s back to Instagram and the latest from my writing and non-writing lives. Take a look at previous posts with my handle, @EktaRGarg.

I hope you have a great week, readers, and remember to tell a loved one you care about them (even better if you can give them a hug.) Life is too short not to.

Book review now up

Hello, Write Edge readers. I’ve posted my latest book review for you. Today I share my thoughts on the middle grade novel The Mystery of Locked Rooms by Lindsay Currie. Here’s the opening to my post:

A tween learns that her family might lose their home and goes on a quest with her two best friends to help save it. Along the way, the kids will have to rely on one another and help each other face secrets and fears if they want to complete the quest and come home safely. Middle grade author Lindsay Currie returns with another excellent novel about friendship and facing important stakes in the sweet book The Mystery of Locked Rooms.

Read the whole review now on The Write Edge Bookshelf.

Have a good evening, readers, and remember to tell a loved one you’re thinking about them. Life is too short not to.

Starting a new month…

Hello, Write Edge readers. It’s the start of a new month and the continuation of my new “normal” without my dad.

When this year started, I decided my entire year’s worth of workshop writing to haiku in order to find a way to express myself in the simplest, most compressed way possible. My short stories and the articles I write for my day job typically run a little longer than usual, but I’ve been really enjoying the challenge of using the fewest syllables to share my biggest feelings. Check out my latest attempt on The Write Edge Writing Workshop now.

On Wednesday, I’ll share with you my latest book review that I teased this past week in my #bookreviewpreview. Tomorrow is release day for Lindsay Currie’s middle grade novel The Mystery of Locked Rooms. Find out what I thought of it on Wednesday on The Write Edge Bookshelf.

At the end of the week, of course, I’ll take you back to Instagram. I’ve decided to be a little more intentional with that platform to reinforce my author brand of being a Reviewer, Editor, Author, and Dreamer of stories and books. Sometimes what I post my fit a little more loosely into those categories, but I hope to make it more apparent to all of you just how each of these four roles really do fill out my days at my desk.

Thank you, as always, readers, for your continued support and interest in my little corner of the web. I hope you have a good week, and, as always, tell a loved one you care about them (hug them if you can.) Life is too short not to.

E.R.G.
