Understanding Black Perspective… As Someone With White Privilege
Having White Privilege doesn’t make you a bad person…but denying Black Americans’ world view might.
As a white woman and the mother of a mixed-race daughter, the first thing I accept about my viewpoint is it is skewed.
I have white privilege.
I can never know what it’s like to be a black woman, but from speaking to my black friends and also my daughter, I’m able to get better insight and understanding of the issues black people face on a daily basis.
For example, I have learned that black women are terrified that when their husbands or children leave to run an errand or go for a jog… that they won’t come home again. I have learned that black families have to have conversations with their children about what happens when they get pulled over by the police. Starting at age 5!
Whereas I worry about the cost of the ticket I’m going to get, they worry that they might get killed.
Now some people discredit this fear – arguing its paranoia, me hating my own white race, or that it’s not real.
To them, I say: Your thinking is limited by what you know. Your experience and therefore your opinions are skewed by your white privilege. And your reality is not reflective of someone else’s.
Furthermore, acknowledging your white privilege isn’t enough to end it. The only way to change your viewpoint is to mix with people who are not like you – who do not look like you, who do not think like you, or do not have the same life experiences as you.
You ask them. And you take what they say at face value. You do not tell them that what they feel is false. You practice empathy just like you would when someone gets very ill, let’s say they have cancer and even though you do not have cancer you still can empathize that this illness can be tough to fight. You wouldn’t try to talk them out of it, would you?

I challenge you to have an open-minded discussion with someone completely unlike you.
Ask them questions.
Learn from their experiences.
Eradicate your bias, whether it’s intentional or unintentional.
Only then can we start to change the world we live in for the better.

The Reason Why Cancel Culture Is Toxic
Cancel Culture is an internet phenomenon with (very) real world consequences.
Once upon a time, people who behaved badly were publicly shamed and exiled. But these days, you can’t just kick someone out of the village. Thanks to the internet, we are all connected all the time…and the internet rarely forgives and never forgets. That doesn’t stop the people you offend from trying to SHAME and REMOVE you (socially, professionally, literally, etc.).
Here’s how it works: I say or do something that someone finds inappropriate or offensive. They post it on social media. Other people share it. It goes viral, and suddenly an angry mob is baying for my blood. The mob goes after my job, my reputation – maybe even my children or my life.
As a society, this form of public shaming exists for a reason – we want to keep our neighbors in line and make sure our communities are abiding by certain values. It’s the public applying pressure to do the right thing (what exactly that means obviously varies depending on your social and political beliefs). At its best, Cancel Culture holds society to a higher standard. At its worst, it’s a witch hunt with sadistic consequences.
Celebrities are no strangers to Cancel Culture (be it for actual wrongdoings like sexual assault or simply perceived insults) and many companies have seen Cancel Culture hit their bottom line (Goya is currently being boycott by many in the LatinX community after the CEO came out supporting Trump. Facebook felt the heat when they were caught disseminating false news. Lululemon came under fire for body shaming. The list goes on…).
But, lately, many regular people have felt the toxic, even deadly, effects of Cancel Culture as well. (I’m looking at you, Karen.)
I say this with first-hand experience of inadvertently angering the mob… Please, before you jump down someone’s throat or needlessly call the police… before you jeopardize someone’s livelihood or life, seek first to understand the whole story. Replace taking offense with having patience. Both sides need to create space for dialogue…instead of trying to cancel each other out.
Have you ever been a victim of Cancel Culture? What are your coping tactics for dealing with offensive posts on social media? Comment below and follow for more.

How To Make Changes In Life (And STICKING To Them!)
You may have the luxury of extra time now, during the pandemic, because you are at home so much. Or you may be completely crazed as you try to work at home, care for a family and keep up with everything.
Whether your current situation is either of those extremes or something in between, you’ve probably had thoughts about how to make changes in your life. It is not a surprise. When any of us (or all of us) experience big events that are out of our control and when all our life communities (work, neighborhood, school, family whatever) are being slammed by unpredictable forces, we search for the best response.
Often, we decide that there are ways we want to change ourselves and our lives to better respond to the different world we suddenly inhabit. Yet most of us find that making life changes can be difficult and unsuccessful. The hardest part of this may be committing to a change.
In this video, Ramon and I talk about how to make changes in life. Why do you make a change? And what happens then? What is the process? Where are the critical junctures that make a life change possible? How do you do this in a way that ensures success– that makes that change permanent?
Take the time to watch the video because I think it will help you in these turbulent times. If you think it helps you understand and maybe even take steps toward YOUR life changes, that is fabulous! And, if it does help you, please ‘Like’ it so that others will watch it and get the same benefit.

Self Confidence and The Female Entrepreneur – Are YOU Good Enough?
Am I good enough? I can’t do that. I don’t know how… I’m never going to make it… Ever been plagued by these thoughts before? Then you’re not alone!
Many millennials, and women in particular, struggle with a crippling lack of self-confidence. I suspect I don’t need to tell you that this feeling of inadequacy is holding you back.
To succeed as an entrepreneur, and to make it as a leader in today’s uncertain world, it is vital to believe in yourself and believe you can do it – even if you don’t know how. The key is to identify your weak points and find a work-around, so they stop holding you back.
Not sure where to begin? Here are some tools both men and women can use to bolster their self-confidence and get on course to success.
Everything is a learnable skill
You start learning the day you are born, and you shouldn’t stop until the day you die. If some skill or area of expertise is tripping you up, then pick up a book or watch a YouTube video and learn how to do it yourself. And if something really isn’t clicking, then learn enough to hire it out – but never give up on learning new tricks!
Outsource
No one is good at everything. The best leaders learn to surround themselves with people who know more and can do better. Combine forces with people whose strengths balance out your weaknesses. If you’re insecure about your writing, hire a ghost writer. If you worry your appearance isn’t up to snuff, consult a stylist. No idea how to handle contracts? Hire a lawyer. Delegation could be your ticket to overcoming self-confidence issues.
Never forget: You have something to offer.
I bet something that seemed difficult to you 6 months or a year ago has become second nature now – or at least a little less overwhelming. Take a second to look at what you’ve already done and how far you’ve come and applaud your progress! The things that seem easy to you may seem impossible to the next person. Stop selling yourself short and celebrate what you are good at.
As a female entrepreneur, building and sustaining your self-confidence may always be a chore. Just return to these tenets when you’re feeling inadequate, and remember: You are good enough. You belong here. And you are going to kill it.
For more tricks and tools, pick up a copy of my book, Happy Women Happy World: The Foolproof Fix to Get From Overwhelmed to Awesome.

No More Excuses. How to Start Moving Forward in Business Again
With the pandemic raging and the GDP plummeting, many of us have fallen into a slump and it’s easy to see why. Our peers are being fired or furloughed. Legacy businesses are going bankrupt. People are struggling – and dying.
Some days it just seems easier to sit on the couch, binge Netflix and pack on the pounds. From not calling your clients to leaving emails unread, we let work wait. We think, everyone’s having a bad time. So, I am too.
But that’s not how LEADERS think. Leaders don’t make excuses to fail.
Here are 5 ways to stop making excuses and avoid stagnation in business and life:
Stop wallowing in negativity and making the mistake of indulging in other people’s pain. Take control of your own mindset and emotions.
Stop procrastinating. Get motivation back by tapping into your brilliance and purpose. What are you here to do? What are you amazing at? Keep doing it.
Stop feeling guilty for trying to succeed while others are struggling. Be a beacon in dark times.
Keep looking for opportunities. They are everywhere, even when it seems like the world is falling apart.
Seek help. Hire a coach, consultant or someone to talk to to help get your head straight and get you back on the right path.
And finally, for whoever needs to hear it: Drop the weight. Make the call. Find the client. Get out of your comfort zone. You have permission to keep moving forward. Let nothing stand in your way.

How To Overcome the Effects Of Procrastination & Increase Productivity
Why are you procrastinating? What’s the reason behind it? What are the effects of procastination and how can you change it so you can be more productive and stop wasting time?
Let’s get real – we all procrastinate. It’s natural to want to avoid doing something you don’t like to do. It could be finishing a deck or making phone calls or sending deal points – you know logically that you’re better off following through with the task, and yet something is holding you back.
It seems harmless, but don’t underestimate the long-term effects of procrastination on your productivity, and even your career. If you want to nip procrastination in the bud, then follow this simple two-step process:
Identify What Belief is Holding You Back
The first step to overcoming procrastination is examining the task at hand and figuring out what reason or belief is hindering you from actually executing. What is making you put it off?
Let’s take the example of making cold calls. For many of us, making cold calls sucks for a variety of reasons and most of them boil down to a fear of rejection or failure. Expecting negative results, your brain seeks to protect itself, triggering a procrastination loop. If you don’t make the calls, you won’t get rejected. You know not making the calls will get you nowhere and just like that you created your self-fulfilling prophecy.
If you want to get out of that loop and stop the effects of procrastination, then you need to CHANGE YOUR MINDSET around the task.
Retrain Your Brain: Change the Habit
Once you’ve identified the reason behind your procrastination, start retraining your mind by implementing protocols. In other words, turn the task into a habit. It takes 21-60 days to break or form a habit. So, for two months, do the task (you know which one I mean!) without fail. I suggest scheduling it for first thing in the morning to get it out of the way.
If you follow through, then at the end of the two-month trial period, you will have worked the task into your routine and effectively retrained your brain. And, while you might still fear the negative results on some level, you will also be able to acknowledge that they are just a possibility, not a guarantee.
By understanding what causes you to procrastinate and learning how to cope with it as it arises, then you can overcome it and can increase your productivity. So, what’s holding you back? Comment below and share with the procrastinators in your life!

Challenges We Face As Women Business Owners
Starting, growing, and scaling a small business is no easy feat. It takes hard work, effort, and maybe just a tad bit of luck can help. But it still stands, it’s extremely challenging to run a business.
As a woman business owner, you’re sure to have your own share of challenges. In this interview, Jim Fitzpatrick, host of the Atlanta Small Business Journal television program, and I talk a bit about what it’s like to be a woman business owner and how we are perceived in that role. I also shared my own experience and some challenges I’ve faced during my journey as a CEO. Some of the challenges feel old and dated such as the old struggle to be taken seriously as a woman. And then there is the one where a woman can feel pretty alone amongst our peers.

I spent a long time in the creative industry and managed—despite some incredibly painful setbacks—to grow my business to be very successful. After selling that business to Bill Gates for millions, I decided to use what I had learned—including how to overcome challenges unique to women business owners—to consult and train others like you.
Working with many successful women business owners, I’ve developed a very clear understanding of how we can and must push the envelope. This is absolutely necessary in order to grow our women owned businesses because it truly can be an uphill battle some days.
One thing is for sure, it takes great consistent strategy to overcome the kind of obstacles thrown our way as women business owners. It can be even more challenging to women in the business world as a whole. Please watch the video to learn more and feel free to ‘Like’ and/or ‘Share’ it to your own network. I’d also love to hear your strategies on handling adversity within your business and or workplace.

Growing Your YouTube Channel & Finding Your Niche
In the current age, video social media websites are becoming some of the most influential platforms for any aspiring business owners. It’s no secret that more and more businesses are hopping on the Youtube trend and for good reason.
In this video, I talk with Ramon, my videographer and director, about what it takes to grow your channel on Youtube and why it’s so important in the first place. We offer some suggestions that will help you maximize your message to your audience. While good production values and coherent script make a huge difference, what’s most important is to focus on finding your niche. What is it that is unique about you? Embrace that.
Ramon and I also discussed the ‘sameness’ of so much content on YouTube. You shouldn’t want to copy someone else’s YouTube presence in either through looks, thoughts or words. Finding your own way to be compelling is what will set you apart. Following the crowd isn’t likely to make your channel grow; you’ve got to have something unique. As Ramon says, “it can be slightly horrifying” to ‘be you’ but it is so much better than a repetition of what others are doing.

I hope this video will help you understand how to use your uniqueness to gain a foothold in the social media platform. YouTube can be a powerful tool to grow your business right now as we’re unable to connect and network in person. And if done wisely, you will for sure get the most impact possible. What Is Mental Toughness?
What is mental toughness? How does one develop this trait? There are several ways to cultivate mental toughness in yourself. And as we go through this pandemic together, being mentally tough can help you make the best out it and possibly help those around you as well.
In movies, books, and other media, being mentally tough is often characterized as a positive trait. These characters are usually the ‘good guys’ and no matter what is thrown at them, they find a way to conquer their fears. And true enough, they succeed in the end.
In this video, I’ll be covering precisely what mental toughness is and why you need it. Where should you focus your energy? What will drag you down? Are there things you are doing that make you feel good in the short term but are a waste of good energy? How you can build a tough mindset to help you thrive especially in this current situation?

Why You Need To Pivot Business Strategies
To keep afloat and thrive during these changing times, you need to shift your focus. Or in other words, YOU NEED A PIVOT. I’m sure you’ve heard this word perhaps a dozen times or more but do we really understand why we need to pivot business strategies?
Everything that you were doing before the pandemic began may have been terrific. Each strategy made then may have been perfect for the situation too. But just as you thought this was all under control, the massive protests and the threat of a second wave sends us all back to square one.
Clearly, the world is changing drastically right now. And with it, people’s mindsets are shifting too. Many things that were important aren’t anymore, and many things have become priorities that weren’t before. And because of this, the same tactics that worked before in business are likely to be moot now.
Personally, I have lots of experience in developing successful businesses despite tough situations. Such experiences helped me understand when market conditions change and what are needed to shift the direction of a business to address these new circumstances.
Pivoting in business is essential if you want to keep up in current times. In this video, I explain what pivoting is and why you need to do it. I’ve also discussed what you can be doing now to successfully pivot your business. How does that change your plans, your strategies, your activities and your ability to still create or manage a successful business? What will you do that is not like the past? How WILL you pivot?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ll52YPz3akU&utm_source=blog&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=business_developmentVideo can’t be loaded because JavaScript is disabled: Why You Need To Pivot Business Strategies | Adapting To The Crisis (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ll52YPz3akU&utm_source=blog&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=business_development)
I want to help you understand that it will be somewhat different for each of you and that your plans will reflect your unique and individual viewpoints and needs. But knowing how to plan and execute such changes will be critical for the success of the business.
I hope this video will get you moving in the right direction so that, as you pivot, you are making the choices that will get you to where you want to be. Because one thing is for sure… Waiting is not a strategy. If you think this video is helpful, please ‘Like’ and share it within your network. Thanks in advance.
