How Is Covid Affecting Women in the Workforce?
This year has been rough. Covid-19 has affected everyone. I know that it has impacted me and my life. There have been so many changes in our daily routines. Kids are learning from home and families are spending holidays apart. I don’t know if we could have predicted the effects that this pandemic has had on our world.
Do you think that Covid has impacted female employment in the workforce? Are working women disproportionately experiencing negative effects compared to their male counterparts? I want to share with you how this pandemic has impacted women and their careers. To tell you the truth, I was shocked when I learned this information!
Let me be clear. Covid is NOT gender-neutral. Women workers are definitely being negatively affected right now. Here are some surprising numbers to show you how important women are to the workforce and how many are leaving.
1 in 4 women is considering downshifting their careers or leaving the workforce due to the impact of Covid-19.80% of 1.1 million who dropped out of the labor force in 9/2020 were women.Women are 39% of the global workforce but 54% of pandemic-related job losses.Mothers are 3x as likely as fathers to be responsible for housework and childcare.Mothers spend 20 more hours/week on housework and childcare compared to fathers.Black mothers are 2x more likely than white mothers to handle ALL childcare and houseworkLatina mothers are 1.6x more likely to handle ALL childcare and houseworkBlack and Latina’s mothers are more likely to have a partner who works out of the homeCountries led by women performed better. The gender effect of the pandemic could lower global GDP by $1 trillion by 2030Wow. These numbers are staggering. Can you believe that women do so much more childcare and housework compared to men? Childcare and housework are not called “women’s work” anymore, but we can see that women are still expected to be responsible for these areas. It is important to point out how systemic racism and discrimination, privilege, socioeconomic, and geographical factors influence the domestic workload of these mothers and their communities.
So, why do women leave work more than men? Women are expected to drop everything in order to take care of their children. Now, with kids being at home more, many women are choosing to spend more time with their families. Children cannot be left alone all day, and it is safer for a parent to stay home with them than having someone else come to watch them. There is also another factor that dictates which parent goes to work and which stays home: money.
There is still gender bias within the labor force and men out-earn women in the workplace. Here is an example of income inequality based on statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau. Imagine that everyone in this scenario has the same job at the same company with the same qualifications and work experience. A man earns a salary of $100,000. An Asian woman makes $97,000. White women would take home $80,000 and Black women would make $66,000. The wage gap becomes largest between men and Hispanic women, who earn just $58,000 for doing the exact same job. Of course, couples will choose a higher salary when determining who stays home. If I were in that position, I would make the same call. It is just unfortunate that gender and income inequality is still so prevalent today. There is another downfall to women staying home. When women leave work, they create a gap in their employment history, which makes it hard for them to find work later. Have you known anyone who had a hard time getting a job after staying home with her baby or children?
https://youtu.be/8TJiCZYahTwVideo can’t be loaded because JavaScript is disabled: How Is COVID Affecting The Women In Your Workplace? (https://youtu.be/8TJiCZYahTw)
Clearly, women are at a disadvantage in the workplace. But, the workplace is also at a disadvantage without women. Sixty percent of women possess college degrees. When women are not in the workforce, we do not have the most qualified people working. As an employer or a fellow team member, you should support women in your work environment. It is really important to have diverse, creative, and qualified thoughts and ideas in the workplace. It benefits not just the business and shareholders, but also the public. It is also important for transparency reasons to have gender diversity and women’s equality in your company. We work better when there is a variety of thoughts, experiences, and backgrounds I think we should all support an effort to increase female employment rates and women in leadership.
I would love to hear your own experiences, thoughts, and insights into this topic!

How to Manage Clients that are Reluctant to Change
Wherever you are in the world, whatever your industry or expertise level, you are going to come across difficult clients who are resistant to change.
The issues may be blatantly obvious to you – but no matter how vehemently you point them out, the client doesn’t budge. They insist they know their business, their clients, their quality, etc. They’re right, you’re wrong. The end.
What now? Do you just write them off?
No! (And if you have that luxury, then we all applaud you!)
When it comes to getting a client (or anyone for that matter) to see your point of view, and adjust their behavior, remember this:
Someone is only going to change when the pain of staying as they are is greater than the fear of change.
In other words, our brains are wired to keep us safe. And change feels dangerous.
A stubborn client is likely a scared one. It’s up to you to gently but diligently open their eyes to why the change you are proposing is necessary and urgent… How?
https://youtu.be/ZQw0vIYB0-kVideo can’t be loaded because JavaScript is disabled: Building Trust In Business | How To Deal With Difficult Customers (https://youtu.be/ZQw0vIYB0-k)There are 4 key components to making a change:RecognitionDesireCommitmentUrgency
Without any one of these factors, you or your client will ultimately go nowhere. If you can’t see you have a problem, you won’t be able to change it. If you don’t want to change it…you won’t! And even if you know you have a problem and want to change but lack resolve and urgency… then, frankly, you’ll just be miserable. And most likely fail as a business.
To a client, the problem might look like “I’m losing money.” But you and I both know that that problem comes from some other mitigating factor…whether that’s bad branding, poor price point, underspending on marketing, bad workflows, etc.
So, you must start by fully understanding your client’s objective and obstacles by asking questions.
Once you have a clear image of what your client needs and what you can do for them, then use questions to help them Recognize why what you’ve identified is the real source of the problem, and to instill Desire, Commitment, and Urgency to change it.
Don’t get me wrong, the change will still seem scary! But by compassionately and patiently managing your client, they will feel understood – thereby building trust and loyalty. As long as you deliver on your plan, then you will have a client for life.
How do you deal with difficult customers? Do you have communication techniques that helped in the past?

How To Start Holding A Conversation Without Conflict
Sign on to Social Media or turn on the news and hostility is high! It seems we’ve lost the ability to hold a conversation about…anything(!) without conflict. And, frankly, it’s not getting us anywhere.
The question today is how do we remove the hostility from the dialogue?
Conflict arises when two people are unable or unwilling to see the other side’s point of view. This kind of total disregard quickly leads to a shouting match where neither side feels heard. This is because not only do they feel that their opinion does not matter, the whole of their being has been invalidated. Let me elaborate…
Every thought, opinion or belief we have comes from some experience we’ve had…and no two people have had exactly the same experience. This is because we have different races, sexual orientations, gender identifications, upbringings, political or religious beliefs, abilities, backgrounds etc. If we were all the same, we would all think, talk and act the same. There would be no conflict (or least significantly less). We would just be a homogenized, sexless society in total agreement all the time.
But we don’t live in that world…so, here’s what you have to remember next time you find yourself in hostile waters:
NEVER assume you know where someone is coming from. You do not know what you’ve never experienced. You can only speak to YOUR experience and expertise. So, seek to understand what makes you different. Ask questions. Don’t talk. Listen. Listen to hear. Listen to learn.
Only when both sides try to understand what makes us different can we begin to find common ground – or at least alleviate the hostility.

Why can’t we be civil? Stop struggling with the hostility! ImplementThe Importance Of Listening And Learning this simple solution and start getting somewhere with the other side!

How To Manage Anxiety
Without a doubt, these are difficult times. Between presidential press conferences, the media, and the internet, our days have become a litany of catastrophes, leaving many of us feeling anxious and angsty.
Am I safe? Are my loved ones? What about my job? My business? My bank account? When will things go back to normal? When will they find a vaccine? What can I do now?
It is enough to make your head spin and your heart heavy.
It’s ok to be anxious. Frankly, if you’re not even a little worried, then maybe you should take a moment to get in touch with what’s really going on in the world.
The key is not to let the voice that’s fueling your anxiety take over. Don’t let it overwhelm you or else you’ll become bogged down by the angst and be of no use to your family, your business, or yourself.
https://youtu.be/-_jmV6irGR4Video can’t be loaded because JavaScript is disabled: How To Manage Anxiety | Reducing Stress During Uncertain Times (https://youtu.be/-_jmV6irGR4)
Here’s is a two-step trick to manage the anxiety that I use and that I share with all of my coaching clients.
Whenever you have a particularly strong emotion, first ask yourself: Is this true? Remind yourself that it’s just a feeling and not a fact.
Then, replace that feeling or thought with a better, true thought. For example, “It’s not always going be like this.” “I’m going to feel better in a moment.” “I know I can do this – I’ve been through bad stuff before.”
Make this positive mantra a part of your daily practice, and, in time, it will be easier to replace the negative thoughts with positivity, leading to a stronger and steadier mental mindset.

How To Stay Focused
With so many things vying for your attention these days, I want to give you some pointers to help you stay on task and avoid distractions.
We’re all guilty of compulsively checking the news, scrolling through social media, or popping into our favorite e-shops instead of focusing on what really matters.
Why? Because it’s brain candy! We are addicted to notifications and we’re terrified of missing out! But it’s costing you time, productivity, and money…
https://youtu.be/-r7ySGly420Video can’t be loaded because JavaScript is disabled: How To Stay On Task And Avoid Distractions (Your Time Is Valuable!) (https://youtu.be/-r7ySGly420)
So, here are my 3 tips for you to avoid these distractions and get shit done:
TURN OFF NOTIFICATIONS: Go into your phone, go into settings, and turn off all notifications except for the ones that are critical. Do you really need to get Facebook messenger notifications and WhatsApp messages in real-time? Probably not.SCHEDULE DISTRACTIONS: Maybe turning your brain off for 15 minutes helps you get through the day. That’s ok! But don’t like that 15 minutes turn into 60. Schedule chunks of time throughout your day where you can indulge in distractions and then stick to your calendar! Remember: Time disappears when you don’t allocate it to something.SET A TIMER: Our vices have a way of making us forget time – so, to avoid losing it, set an alarm! And when time is up, put the phone down and get back to work.If we are running constantly in this distraction mode, then we will never learn how to stay on task and we will never get anything done.
Use these tips to optimize your productivity and let me know what works for you!

The Future of Leadership
From fearing for the health and safety of your family or job security to pulling double or triple duty, there are countless reasons why you or your people might begin to buckle under pressure.
Many don’t know how to cope with uncertainty… and it’s leading to widespread anger and discord.
The question is what are you supposed to do when this is happening within your business? What can you do to bring your workforce together again?
I recently interviewed a group of c-level executives to learn their answer to that question.
Their conclusion was unanimous: during times of crisis and change, it’s critical for business owners to be leaders. People need guidance. They need to see a way forward.
It’s time for you to step up and set an example. Your team will be stronger for it.https://youtu.be/rq57ErpnEnsVideo can’t be loaded because JavaScript is disabled: Leadership Insights For The Future (https://youtu.be/rq57ErpnEns)

What happened in Washington?
I want to share my reaction to the chaos we witnessed in Washington DC, where a Trump supporter riot stormed their way into the heart of America, the Capitol building.
Now, there’s absolutely no denying that the behavior witnessed is disgraceful and the loss of life was nothing short of a tragic parade. It is actually scary.
But I want to offer another perspective of what happened…You see, wherever you land on the political spectrum, whether you watched the capitol riot on NBC News or CNN, all news media coverage is biased. As consumers, we seek information that confirms what we already believe. But what you need to realize is that almost all news outlets are businesses, ultimately driven by one thing: Money. Do you know what makes them more money than anything? Fear.
Fear is our greatest motivator. It drives the highest engagement above all other emotions. Fear-based stories and posts get more views and, consequently, make the media more advertising dollars. The more you watch, click, etc. the more they make. However, the more you indulge in all of the fear-based information coming at you, then consciously or subconsciously, that fear becomes your reality.
For the last four years, this country has been programmed to operate in fear. What I want you to be aware of is, yes, the Washington DC riots are bad. And yes, it is unprecedented to see violence and rioting like that in the Capitol.
But what does this mean for YOU?You are at a crossroads: you can either buy into it, watch the news excessively, comment excessively… Or you can create your own reality. What is a better use of your time and your energy?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEPs_9r3O4U&feature=youtu.beVideo can’t be loaded because JavaScript is disabled: The Events In Washington DC – Pro-Trump Protests, Riots & Storming Capitol | MY REACTION (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEPs_9r3O4U&feature=youtu.be)Shut all the information off, knowing it’s biased and deliberately designed to elicit fear anyway. Instead, I encourage you to focus on looking at things through a different lens. One of positivity, value, and truth. Put yourself firmly in control and make a conscious decision regarding what you consume, how much you consume, what you’re reacting to, where you are directing your energy, and the future you’re creating for yourself.
Let me know below how you’ve been handling the news coming out of Washington – and then make a commitment here and now to take control of how you’re going to react and engage moving forward.
As always, I am here for you.

Thoughts On The 2020 Election
The 2020 election has reminded us just how divided this country really is and I guarantee that division is having an impact on your workplace unity (whether you’re seeing it or not). Unless you make a deliberate effort to unify your team, those differences in opinion are going to create a rift that may be difficult to reconcile.
It’s easy to recognize that there is a division in the country, especially leading up to inauguration day.
But as a business leader, you need to acknowledge that the rift is not just out there… it’s likely in your organization too.
Look at the numbers: Nearly HALF the country voted for Donald Trump. Now, your company may not perfectly represent the demographics or voting tendencies of the country as a whole. However, you would be remiss to assume that there are not a number of Trump supporters within your ranks who are disappointed and may even feel maligned. At the same time, the opposite may be true. You may lead a team that is largely pro-Trump with a few silent Biden-supporters.
In either instance, the result is the same: I guarantee that you have team members right now who feel they cannot voice their opinions. As such, they do not feel heard or understood. This will have a negative domino effect on your team, their work, and ultimately create a toxic rift in your organization.
Creating a safe space for compassionate dialogue is critical now more than ever. To ignore what’s going on “out there” allows the same subversive hostility to invade your taskforce, undermining your workplace unity.
If you want to avoid the polarization of the 2020 election in your own business, start having a dialogue today!
Let us know below what you’re doing to create a safe space. And if you need help facilitating these conversations, please reach out to me today and we can schedule a complimentary Uncovery Session to get you on the right path.

How To Build Business Resilience During A Crisis (& BOUNCE BACK!)
Are you going to let 2020 turn your story into a tragedy? Or are you ready to reclaim the narrative?
The way I see it, there are two ways to look at life: as a victim under a pile of bad results… or as an opportunist, ready to channel adversity into possibility. If you’re reading this, then I suspect you’re the latter…maybe you just need a reminder.
Covid-19 has been here for much longer than we anticipated, and many of us are stuck not knowing what’s going to happen with our businesses. Through years of experience – and surviving 7 disasters in my career – I’ve learned that there is a cadence to businesses recovery during a crisis.
When something dire happens – whether it’s a fire, flood, earthquake, tsunami, terrorist attack, or the economic depression that often follows disasters – everything stops working as it should and all hell breaks loose temporarily. Businesses adapt or they fail, and we all adjust to the new normal.
However, Covid-19 has thrust us all into a prolonged sort of purgatory… At first, a few weeks of SIP was a novel break. Then, the government cut checks and it made us all worry a little less for a little while. Some even made more money on unemployment than they did with full-time jobs.
Now, it’s past the 9-month mark and we’ve all gotten a little complacent. Here’s my advice, based on surviving 7 disasters:
If you’re still waiting for the world to go back to normal, then you are going to fail. Consider this a very serious wakeup call and start making changes NOW.
It’s easy to entertain the thought that this happened to you undeservedly. You’ve done nothing wrong – so the government should fix it for you!
However, considering the state our government is currently in, that is hardly a strategy I would recommend…
Rather, I want you to ask yourself some questions right now:
Is what I’m doing working?Do I feel stuck in a loop? Will my business succeed if things continue as they are?Chances are good you may not like your answers, and you would not be alone. The reality for many business owners and leaders is sobering! But things are what they are… and we must come to terms with the world we are living in.
I know it sounds difficult, the less you focus on what matters right now, the faster and harder you are driving into no man’s land – and it only gets worse in that direction… Trust me. This is my 8th disaster. The solution is to take a step back and examine the weak points of your life, business, or career.
https://youtu.be/IqhCNErgG2AVideo can’t be loaded because JavaScript is disabled: Inevitable Recovery: How To Build Business Resilience During A Crisis (& BOUNCE BACK!) (https://youtu.be/IqhCNErgG2A)
Here’s what you need to do:
Identify what’s wrong.Identify what you want.Kickstart your momentum and commitment.Find the opportunity.Reclaim your urgency. The Inevitable Recovery is my tried and trusted method for building business resilience, and it’s based on my experience with recovery during a crisis. If you haven’t signed up yet – then go do so now.
If you already have completed the free portion, I encourage you to sign up for the Intentional Implementer to help you CREATE A FORWARD MOMENTUM.
Every single person has blind spots, attachments, and stories we tell ourselves – myself included! I bet you have wondered many times why your competitors are killing it when they’re not even as good as you! What are they doing differently?
I’ll tell you what it is: It’s the clarity of their goal and the relentless pursuit of it. If your old story, your old programming keeps popping up telling you to stop – and it ALWAYS does – you simply cannot get ahead.
This is the reason I created the Intentional Implementer. It is the type of Accountability Mastermind that will keep you tapped into your urgency, commitment, and momentum every single week.
I’m sure a number of reasons you can’t commit just sprang into your mind: it’s going to be too much, it’s not the right time, you’re too busy…but, the truth is, you make time for what matters. Your results demonstrate where you are and how well you are doing.
I am not judging – I am here to help you if you want to break this cycle.
One of the Intentional Implementer members, Douglas Hill, sent me a card telling me he took my advice (begrudgingly and way too late) and yet he still managed to make twenty sales.
This can be you too. But only if you commit to yourself. Not to me. Not the group.
You must commit to breaking the cycle of up and down – the hoping for the calls to come in, the open rates to get better, for social media to finally show some fruits of your hard labor.
In your heart of hearts though… you know it is you. It’s how you think about it that got you here, how you plan for your business, the accumulation of perceived mistakes and setbacks.
And it’s time for you to break this cycle with The Intentional Implementer.
Rather than another “get in, get out and be done” program, this is a weekly dose of positive reinforcement designed to keep you focused and help you make incremental changes.
We will cover a wide range of topics, including:
How am I changing what’s on my website? How am I going to talk to people again? How do I pick up the phone again? How do I show up strong? How do I have a smile on my face? How do I believe I have what people offer right now?How do I make a positive contribution?Where do I start with business development? What’s a good LinkedIn Strategy and what exactly should I say to people when I reach out? This is going to help you get out of that cycle of bad results. It will make you show up for yourself and your clients, feel empowered rather than helpless, and make an impact.
You will also have access to the Intentional Implementer VAULT which is the perfect DIY Disaster-Proofing option for those of you who prefer to work at your own pace. The Vault includes every single episode that we have covered in the Intentional Implementer. Momentum, drive, and success are all there for you – you just have to commit to making a change.
Only if your pain of staying where you are is greater than the fear of changing will you succeed. You MUST be clear in your heart and your mind that you simply cannot continue like this. If you’re ready, then sign up today and find out in 20-minute bite-size episodes:
How do you write emails? What email headlines are opening? How do you stay in a positive mindset? How do you utilize social media to grow your business? How do you do proper outreach? How do you fill your pipeline? How do you get in, you know again that mindset to really move forward and persuade people that you are the right choice?Don’t let Covid-19 and 2020 kill your business for good. Don’t go without a fight. This is your opportunity to make a meaningful change in your life and business.
My goal is not to convince you, but to share what I know and to give you all the learnings I gleaned from making it through disaster after disaster – all by myself as a single mom and immigrant. I went from $135,000 in debt to becoming a self-made millionaire.
You can do it too – the difference is you don’t need to do it alone. I am here for you. The information is here for you. You can have it. I am cheering you on no matter what. But you have to say yes to yourself.

5 Entrepreneurial Characteristics & 5 Actions To Take
I sold a business to Bill Gates after a decade of literal disasters. I’ve run companies, I’ve built businesses from the ground up and I’ve worked with thousands of entrepreneurs and small business owners throughout my career. Trust me when I say, I know what it takes to become a success story. Are you ready?
First, you must have an answer to these 3 questions:
What is 1 thing that you really good at that you can offer to clients?
If you don’t have an answer then you need to get crystal clear on what you bring to the table by checking out my Rocket Launch Your Career series which is going to help you figure out your unapologetic value propositions and how to pitch yourself to anyone on anything.
What problem are you solving?
Don’t build a business, product, or service and then look for buyers. Identify the problem than build a proposition around solving it.
Who are your clients?
Identify who has said problem and then engineer a solution that they need.
Then, you must have (or double down on developing) these 5 ESSENTIAL characteristics:
#1 PASSION
You need to be passionate about what you do and willing to do whatever it takes. Your passion will help you attract clients and do the hard work that is necessary when building a business.
#2 MINDSET
You need to have the right mindset. Without a mindset of abundance and positivity, you are fighting an uphill battle. I guarantee you will always be waiting for the right place, time, or thing – and you will never find it.
#3 BE DISCERNING
We all have finite resources. To make the most of what you have, you need to be incredibly critical when it comes to the things that matter. Whether that’s the clients you take on, the people you hire, the money you spend, or when to call a dead-end a dead-end, evaluate constantly and edit decisively.
#4 FLEXIBILITY
You have to be able to shift when something isn’t working or when a new unexpected opportunity presents itself. Period.
#5 BE GOOD
I believe that good things come to good people. If you are truly in service to other people, then you’re bringing real value to your clients.

These are the most important characteristics of entrepreneurs. When you have the right skills and know the right actions to take, learning how to run a successful business becomes a whole lot easier. Which of the five characteristics do you feel is most important? Why? Share below!
