is there a story behind Xavier's scar? (he was always one of my favourite minor characters, and this has bugged me so much! I was going to wait to ask you in person, but I thought I'd better make sure there is a reason behind it first!)
Shaving accident.
Okay, maybe not really, but close :) The scar looks badass. The reason for it? Less badass. A lot less.
Of course, if you asked Xavier, he’d tell you a terrific war story, probably how he fended off a pack of hell beasts single-handedly. Given that he can teleport, though? Let’s just say if an actual pack of hell beasts appeared, he’d zap himself out of there and let everyone else get torn apart. But I’ll leave him to his badass fantasies. For now.
I just have a quick question; would the Pack ever come in contact with Derek? It's a question I've been thinking of a lot, especially after reading the Rising.
It’s becoming more possible as the kids get older. The problem before was that, with their age and lack of experience, any contact with the adult characters would result in the adults taking charge and the kids having nothing to do except train and go to school, which makes a very boring YA plot :) They need to reach the age and level of experience where they can tell the adults to back off and let them handle their own problems. Which Derek and Maya would already do, so we’re partway there :)

I was wondering If you plan on making "The Darkest Powers" into a movie?
The rights to both YA trilogies—DP & DR—have been sold. That’s just the first step in a very long process and 95% of the time nothing comes of it, so I don’t mention it unless asked directly :) But, yes, they’ve been sold, which is the only step I can take as the author—to sell or not to sell.
Hey Kelley! I just finished reading Hidden and was wondering if you ever plan on expanding whether Logan and Kate (mainly Kate i suppose) would transform into werewolves. If you answer this, thanks for taking the time to reply!
Yes, I definitely will cover this. I know it’s a dangling thread that readers want resolved and I definitely will do that.
Hi Kelley! So...you like fan art! How do you feel about fan fiction? :) I know it's a touchy subject for some writers.
I’m perfectly fine with fan fiction. I don’t read anything based on my books, but only because I have enough trouble keeping my own stories straight in my head (and might accidentally reference a past event that was actually in fanfic LOL) But I will admit to checking fan fiction sites to see how many pieces have been done on my books…and I love seeing those #s increase!
I know you're super busy right now, but I wondered if there were any plans to visit the UK again? I met you a few years back in Manchester and it was a great night! :)
I’ll be over in London for World Con in August, and it coincides with the release of Visions (Cainsville 2) so we’re talking about other events. Details will come in 2014!
Can you make a story for maya...? I really love her
My hope is to write a bunch of online stories set after The Rising, and Maya would definitely get one of the first, but the absolute first goes to Chloe, starting on my website in May. I’ll announce that here, too.
I was just wondering how come 13's cover is the opposite of the rest of the series? I really like all my covers in series matching and it upset me to see that it changed. I was just curious if there was a reason behind that.
I’m guessing you mean the Canadian covers (black for 1-12 and white for 13) That was the publisher’s decision to make it stand out from the rest and indicate it was “something significant” (i.e. the last book in the series) But I do know some readers weren’t happy because it doesn’t match and I’ve let them know and we’ll be more careful about that in future.
Hi Ms. Kelley! I was just wondering if ever you give bookmarks or bookplates to your International readers? I'd really really like to get one but I live in the Philippines that's why. :(
Yep, my bookplates go out internationally, and they always include a few bookmarks. Order info here.
I'm a huge fan. And I actually have a couple questions. Anyways. My first question is about your inspiration for the Darkest Powers. I've seen interviews where you've explained the inspiration for the Otherworld novels but not the YA. What inspired you? My
Inspiration for the YA? A preteen daughter who wanted to read Bitten. Enough said :)
I would like to return to Chloe & Maya’s world in a couple of years, when they’re ready to leave the situation they were in at the end of The Rising (avoiding spoilers here) As for the pendant, let’s pretend it didn’t change shape, for the sake of simplicity. It was hard enough dealing with the colour change! We’ll say the changing shape on the covers didn’t reflect the actual pendant, much in the same way that Chloe’s hair doesn’t resemble that of the actual character ;)
