I'm a huge fan. And I actually have a couple questions. Anyways. My first question is about your inspiration for the Darkest Powers. I've seen interviews where you've explained the inspiration for the Otherworld novels but not the YA. What inspired you? My

Inspiration for the YA? A preteen daughter who wanted to read Bitten. Enough said :)

I would like to return to Chloe & Maya’s world in a couple of years, when they’re ready to leave the situation they were in at the end of The Rising (avoiding spoilers here) As for the pendant, let’s pretend it didn’t change shape, for the sake of simplicity. It was hard enough dealing with the colour change! We’ll say the changing shape on the covers didn’t reflect the actual pendant, much in the same way that Chloe’s hair doesn’t resemble that of the actual character ;)

Hello! I don't know if you've been asked this before, but in the Darkest Powers books you mentioned three different experiments that had been done: Project Phoenix, Genesis, and Icarus. The two YA trilogies focused on Phoenix and Genesis, and we didn't rea

How sad is it if I admit I don’t remember what Icarus was supposed to be? I have notes…somewhere. Valhalla is Kat’s experiment but I didn’t do anything with Icarus, so it has slid through the brain-cracks (which are rather embarrassingly large) I’ll find it and see what I can do about a short story. No trilogy, though. If I write more books in this world, they’d be focused on the existing characters.

You used to have a Broken deleted scene up on your website, any chance you could put it back up? Or will it be in the upcoming anthology (etc)?

Right! I forgot all about that. It’s not on my current computers (that’s how old it is!) so I’ll see if I can dig it up at some point and put that back.

Wild Justice Release Contest

imageIt’s out! The conclusion to a trilogy that began in, uh, 2007. Yeah, I got a little busy once the YA started in 2008. Nadia has always been one of my favorite narrators to write, and I always knew how I’d wrap up her story. This is it: Wild Justice. If you missed it yesterday, I released the first six chapters free. You can read those here.

Now for the celebratory contest. I’m going to give away 3 Nadia books. Three winners will be chosen. Each can choose one of the Nadia books: Exit Strategy, Made to be Broken or Wild Justice

How to enter: email contest@kelleyarmstrong.com and answer the question “What state does the first chapter of Wild Justice take place in?” How do you find that? Well, I did link to the 1st 6 chapters above… ;)

Three entries will be randomly drawn from all correct responses received.

Deadline: midnight Eastern today (Tuesday, November 26) Not sure what that is in your time zone? Check here.

My contests are always open to everyone, everywhere. One entry per person.

Winners are contact by email. Alison send me the names after hearing back, and I sometimes even remember to post them here.

catsbeaversandducks:

Frolicking in the autumn leaves, this...

catsbeaversandducks:

Frolicking in the autumn leaves, this little lion cub is having the time of her life as she excitedly plays in her enclosure.

Tiny cub Karis proved she’s not too dissimilar to human children as she threw herself into the pile of golden leaves carefully collected by her keepers, even ending up with a pile on her head.

Staff at the Blair Drummond Safari Park, near Stirling, Scotland, had been raking up the leaves to keep the attraction tidy, when Karis’s keeper Brian Reid realised that his little charge might enjoy playing in them and moved the pile into her enclosure.

Wild Justice First Six Chapters

imageWild Justice comes out tomorrow! I’d posted a chapter a few months ago, but now I’m giving the full excerpt. It’s the first 6 chapters, so it’s a good, long “sneak peek.”

Here’s the excerpt. For the book description, links etc, click here.

Check back tomorrow when I’ll be giving away copies of all the Nadia books in a release day celebration.

Bitten TV Show Air Date & Trailer

They have an air date for Bitten! 9 PM EST Saturday January 11. Here’s the official trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUQ_ZXjzkiQ And here are links to lists of reader questions I’ve answered and concerns I’ve addressed. And with that, plus an air date (!) there won’t be any further news for me to share, so consider this my final update. For more, follow the Space or Syfy channels. I’ll dive back into my writing and hope those who tune in will enjoy it!

Ask Me Anything - TV Show Edition

Between a weeklong retreat and another week of event trips, I’ve been neglecting my “answer an ask every day” commitment. So I’m going through the inbox (all 132 outstanding Asks!) and answering all the TV show related ones. After this, I’m going to consider the subject exhausted :) I don’t have much to say anyway so with this, I should cover everything!

in-the-otherworld asked you: Have you met/spoken to any of the cast for Bitten? If so, what did you talk about with them? Personally, I’m thrilled that this is being adapted to TV, can’t wait! Do you know how far they’re planning on going with the series?

Nope, haven’t met anyone in the cast. As for how far they’ll go with the series, the real question is “how many seasons will the TV show last?” because there’s no guarantee they’d stick with plots from the book series (most shows I’ve seen veer after season one) As for how many seasons the show runs, it depends on how well season one does. Fingers crossed!

lauraemcvey asked you: Hi Kelley! I was looking at the cast list for the Bitten tv show, and I was wondering why they cast a white actor for Jeremy? Since he’s Japanese in the books.

I’ve addressed that one at some length here.

zozo1512 asked you: Will Bitten eventually be aired in Britain also?

As far as I know, it’s sold in Canada (Space). US (Syfy) and to HBO Nordic. I’ll be sure to let readers know if it sells in other territories. Really hoping for the UK!

sevy48 asked you: Some news about the women of the otherworld TV show ?

Everything I hear, I pass on!

elethalandon asked you: Hello Kelley! I was just wondering how you felt so far about Bitten? A good friend and I are big fans of your work and are greatly looking forward to it airing. Though, I am personally holding my breath to see if it’ll be everything I hope it to be. Jeremy happens to be my favorite character of the entire series and I’d hate for him not to be how you portrayed him. Of course, I can’t really judge any of that until the show starts I suppose. Regardless, please keep up your amazing work!

I was thrilled with the early scripts I read for the first couple of episodes. I’ve been otherwise steering clear and leaving this to the pros. I can also say, though, that every contact I have had with the production has reassured me that everyone involved is fully committed to its success.

vs-thesiren asked you: Hi Kelley! I just watched the trailer for Bitten, and I’m so torn as to whether I want to watch it. I was already disappointed about the casting of Jeremy and now I see Clay also has no southern drawl. I know that this series can’t change the magic that are in those stories, but I don’t want to start envisioning the actors when I reread the series for the umpteenth time. Do you plan on watching the series?

While I’ve moved away from the Otherworld as my annual adult book release, I am still writing short stories and novellas in it and haven’t ruled out a future novel or two. The current stories are set 13 years after Bitten, which means a lot of changes have happened to the characters etc. Seeing someone else’s interpretation of those early stories would just confuse me. I’d forget what parts were mine and which weren’t and, well, chaos would ensue :) Once I’m done with the Otherworld—or at least the Pack’s corner of it—I’ll happily dive into the show. I can’t wait to see how the writers and actors have re-interpreted the Otherworld!

slythpix asked you: Hi! I just want to say that I love your books! I started reading Bitten around 10 years ago, and have been in love with the Otherworld series ever since. I am glad that you posted about the new Bitten series. I live in America, but I’m super excited about the series and hope that it will get added to Netflix. Anyways, I saw the bookmark in the post about the TV series, and wondered if there’s any way I could buy one? And if there’s one for the girls, I’d love to buy that too. Thanks!

Okay, so apparently my plan didn’t make nearly as big a dent in my inbox as I hoped. All TV questions answered…122 Asks left to go. So I’m cheating and answering this one, which is, um, show-adjacent? I do still have some bookmarks. E-mail Alison and we’ll send them out to the first 20 who ask.

My Publication Schedule thru 2015

This is my schedule through 2015. Exact dates can shift, but if they do, it’s because the publisher needs to shift them, not because the book isn’t done. The only book on this list that isn’t written already is Thor’s Serpent…and it’s halfway there.

This list includes novels only. For novellas, I have Brazen coming in Dec 2013, an Elena one for my 2014 Subterranean Press novella, a Pack graphic novella starring Reese (Bounty Hunt) also from Subterranean Press in 2014 and a free online Chloe/Derek novella in spring 2014.
