Do you plan on coming to Nova Scotia?
I was there last month, which is…after you asked. Likely months after you asked.
Dear God, I must get caught up on these Asks! Pretty soon, I’ll be answering questions and people will be, like, “Who are you and why did I ask you…? Oh, right, you’re that author I used to read years ago.” This is why Alison answers all my e-mails. But hey, I’m ahead of schedule on writing the books. That’s something, right?
So I was looking into the cast for the TV series and I found where they casted Thomas LaBlanc but there is no mention that I can find of Daniel or Marsten yet. They played pretty big roles in the novel. Do you know whether they are going to be in the show
Yep, they’ve been cast, which is good, since the show finished filming two months ago. Really must get caught up on my Asks. The full cast is here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2365946/

Hello. This isn't a question, but I wanted to let you know that in the 5th chapter, on page 29, you repeated the word "and" twice, directly after each other. It's in the first sentence at the top of the page. Sorry, it's just that the inner editor within m
I think it got fixed in proofs. Yes, this is a very old Ask, from when I was posting chapters a couple of months before the book came out…and it came out in Aug. I’m so far behind…

Freebie Friday - Oct 18
The Freebie Friday hiatus has lasted longer than expected, namely because I have no books. A pipe burst in our basement in late August, where I store them. Luckily 99% of the books are fine…but the restoration crew had to box them away, and they’re still working on repairs. I did, however, just get a box of Exit Strategy audio CDs yesterday, so let’s give a few away today.
Prize: one audio CD set of Exit Strategy. 3 to be awarded.
How to enter: email contest@kelleyarmstrong.com and answer the question “What year did Exit Strategy come out?” Yes, it’s been a few, so it’s a nice surprise to see it in audio. Also note that it was rejacketed in Canada last year, so if you see a pub date less than 2 years old, keep looking!
Three entries will be randomly drawn from all correct responses received.
Deadline: midnight Eastern today (Friday, October 18) Not sure what that is in your time zone? Check here.
My contests are always open to everyone, everywhere. One entry per person.
Winners are contact by email. Alison send me the names after hearing back, and I sometimes remember to post them here ;)
Hi my name is Tara. I entered your contest for Omen, thought I would let you know. Anyway my question is this, I am writing story that involves a lot of backstory to the characters. What I was wondering is even though you can't tell the entire backstory to
Here’s what I do. I come up with extensive backstory for all my major characters. When I’m writing the first draft, I don’t put it in intentionally, but I don’t hold it back either. I go ahead and write in whatever I’m compelled to add as I work through the book. Then, in edits, I take out every last word of backstory that isn’t necessary for that particular plot—for explaining a plot point or for understanding why character x does y. Backstory is primarily important for the writer, so that you have a fully rounded character. Resist the temptation to add it just because you know it and want to share. Save that for prequels :)
