Review: Gamers' Quest by George Ivanoff
I started reading Gamers' Quest on Saturday while waiting for something, but because it was a short wait, I only got to chapter three. Thanks to two tram trips and a hankering to find out what happened, I finished it today!
Gamers' Quest is a zippingly entertaining YA novel. The lead characters, Tark and Zyra, inhabit a world that is a crazy mishmash of magic, technomagic and technology. They are thieves where the goal is to make as much gold as they can so they can visit Designers Paradise, f...

GaryView: Vampires Anonymous
Lissa: Of all the astonishingly stupid vampire films you own, this is right up there.
Gary: Have you forgotten Chances already?
Lissa: No. That still has the dubious distinction of being the most appalling. And this one at least has Michael Madsen in it. He was a very funny vampire.
Gary: At least they got the stuff right about reflections and sunlight, and not being able to eat food.
Lissa: Yeah, it seemed a lot more accurate than usual. Pity the rest of it was so... odd.
Gary: And really, it's ...

GaryView: The Librarian 3 - Curse of the Judas Chalice
Lissa: That was surprisingly good. A little bit Indiana Jones, a little bit Austin Powers, a little bit Bond even.
Gary: That was nothing like James Bond.
Lissa: Except perhaps for the continued flauting of the laws of physics.
Gary: Not to mention the laws of vampirism.
Lissa: Yeah, but none of them get that right, do they?
Gary: I guess not.
Lissa: So given that this was not a documentary about real ampires, what are your thoughts?
Gary: For a film vampire, Simone was okay.
Lissa: You wouldn't use ...

Attempt at a video
I loaded the video I took to youtube - it was surprisingly easy. Now I have to work out how to embed the thing here. Anyway, it's Vermillion doing 'This Place" at the Central Club Hotel in Richmond on Monday night.
Photos are in my Facebook album here.

Hot rock chicks!!
Just gotta say - Vermillion were ace! Standing up to play was good for their singing and the stage dynamic. Hannah was sad that she missed Michael Shanks, but they sang their Dr Jackson song for him. Thank you
digitalsprawl for coming - and we'll catch you next time
pink_soprano !

Vermillion at The Laundry
Hey again guys,
Jess' band Vermillion is playing at the Laundry tomorrow night! The whole JMC Academy 2nd year will be performing, so I'm not sure when they'll be up, but doors open at 7.30 and I'll of course be there to cheer Jess, Ant and Hannah on. If you're free and want to hang (and see a bunch of up and coming musicians) come to:
Location:The Laundry Central Club HotelStreet:50 Johnston Street 293 Swan StCity/Town:Fitzroy, Australia Richmond
EDIT: CHANGE OF VENUE
7.30 start, but...

Bella's birthday - total funtimes!
I had a hectic morning - updated my website significantly, so it would be fresh and lovely in the event that anybody at the Dymocks event followed up on the lead. So now there's a clear link to the first six chapters of The Opposite of Life from the front page, and all the Garyviews have been tidied up so they're easier to read.
Then I went to
mordwen 's place for brunch - and plotted with her partner (and bribed him with books) on a little Twitter-related project which I hope will come toget...

Tomorrow on the Outland Institute
More shameless plugging!
On tomorrow's Outland Insitute (on Joy 94.9, from 12-2) I will be talking about the choice to boycott a writer's work on the basis that you think they are a douchebag. (Inspired in part by a recent LJ debacle)
" Plus Glenn Dunks looks at the Observer's list of the top 25 UK films of the last 25 years, we enter a brave new world of interviewing techniques with a live reading (by actors) of John's interview with Anvil's Robb Reiner, Adam C is back for Crimes Against Pop ...
