Saturday night - the adventure continuums
It's a shocking pun and I should stop now. But I probably won't.
The reading for Mind the Gap was good, but the crowd was teeny. Having heard George Ivanoff (who has a luuuuverley speaking voice) read from Gamers' Quest I'm even more keen to read it! If it's ever made into an audio book, George should definitely do it himself!
I attended a panel about horror and 'tapping into your fears' - and interjected a lot. And then I was on the panel about the direction of vampire fiction. And spoke a lot. I

Illustrated Continuum
I should also mention that the artwork that _audrey did to illustrate my piece in the Continuum 5 con booklet looks *especially awesome* in print!!

Life in the Continuum
The con has been good fun so far. Despite the fact they made me play a version of 'Thank God You're Here'. It's been 20 years since I played Theatresports. (I have a chequered past!) It was fun being up with
dalekboy though - he just takes these things and runs with it, occasionally into Wrongtown, but I have a condo there anyway.
Last night I bought Richard Harland's new book, Worldshaker - highly praised by folks I know. People have been recommending Harland to me for years and this is the fir

I know I keep banging on about this..
...but Tom Cho's book Look Who's Morphing really is terrific. John and I decided to interview Tom on The Outland Institute because a book stuffed to the brim with pop culture references seemed to have been written specifically for the show. Only instead of thinking of neat, insightful questions to ask, we spent a lot of the interview saying things like "Oh my goodness, Tom Cho, you are splendid and you have written a splendid book!"
A few days later it was nice to find The Age shared our delight

Cons, reviews, stuff
This weekend is Continuum 5. It took me a bit by surprise because I thought it was still two or three weeks away. Actually, I think I still thought it was July and August was aaaages away. Time, where did you go?
Anyway, if you're going to the con and you haven't met me in person come up and say hi. Just remember to tell me your LJ name because I generally don't know who anybody is in real life.
Obviously, if I actually already know you and you'll be there, say hello too. Maybe we can go on a bar

Look who's morphing. Go on - LOOK
I have been singing the praises of Tom Cho's Look Who's Morphing - John and I have even interviewed Tom for The Outland Institute! (That can be heard on this coming Friday's show).
And now it seems the book has been nominated for in Age Book of the Year awards.
It is indeed a wonderful, delightful, magical, crazy book. It contains short stories that read like pop culture dreams, full of shifting identities, physical transormations and outrageous hilarity. Ninjas! Transformers! Retellings of Dirty

Lost in translation
This here is a posting that
sharpest_rose made, only it looks like it has been translated into Eskimo and then translated back. Actually, I have no idea what's going on with it, but it amuses me. I don't know what I like best about it - suddenly being an up-country decorator, or the observation that "any bathrobe cloudless and brings acuity".

My life according to Fall Out Boy
So there's this new meme going around Facebook. I'm beginning to wish my band had less weird song titles, but it's what I have to work with, so here goes.
First, the rules:
Using only song names from ONE ARTIST, answer these questions You can't use the band I used. Try not to repeat a song title. Repost as "my life according to (band name)"
Pick your Artist: Fall Out Boy
Are you a male or female: Don't you know who I think I am?
Describe yourself: Growing up
How do you feel: The (shipped) gol

GaryView: Being Human
LIssa: That was kind of beautiful and kind of sad.
Gary: I thought it was kind of silly.
Lissa: Ha.
Gary: I guess the vampires were almost right. That was a nice change. Maybe the writers have met one or two.
Lissa: And the werewolf?
Gary: George wasn't my idea of a werewolf.
Lissa: No. More of a fluffy, squeaky bunny of a werewolf. I liked him.
Gary: He was okay.
Lissa: Does this mean there are werewolves and ghosts as well?
Gary: Not that I've ever noticed.
Lissa: So there are vampires and that's it?
Ga
