Hats & Lunch & Some Thoughts About Jenny McCarthy
Just wrapped up a winter hat hairstyles video shoot (coming up soon; the style pictured above is #5: The Bad Hair Day Solution). Right now I’m eating lunch and going through the stacks of paper sitting on my “desk” (a.k.a. our dining room table, sorry Kendrick), and came across an article that I tore out ofOK Magazinea few weeks ago.
Now, I’m not usually a big article-clipper, and I don’t usually get my life lessons from tabloids…but this Q&A with Jenny McCarthy hit home so much that I wanted...
Simple Cinnamon Rolls
This recipe is so easy – really just my biscuit recipeplus butter/sugar/cinnamon – and the best part is that it’s basic enough that you can put your own twist on it. Try adding Nutella, peanut butter, or nuts (or all three), drizzling icing on top…anything you like really.
What You Need:
2 cups flour (plus more for sprinkling)
4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
4 tbsp shortening
1 cup milk
About half a cup of softened
About 3/4 cup brown sugar
Cinnamon
What You Do:
1. In a large bowl, sift together the fl...

Over The Bridge And Worlds Away
When I was about nine years old, my parents started toying with the idea of moving to San Francisco, and we flew out for a few days to look at houses. I remember this tripso vividly, mostly because for a city girl growing up in a smallish apartment, the idea of a for-real house was almost too exciting to handle. I remember seeing a house with a looping driveway bordered by weeping willows; another one with a huge, wide-open field out back and an exercise pool on the deck; a third one with a S...
Moisture From Head To Toe
On me: Steve Madden Yerba boots; Black Rivet jacket.
I’ve written extensively about my problems with wintertime dryness, but seriously: if I could just go ahead and marinate in a vat of oil for the next couple of months, that would be great.
My lifelong battle with alligator-ish tendencies has, however, had the happy effect of giving me more than one solution (and product suggestion) for combating the extreme dehydration of hair, skin and nails that often pops up during the wintry months.

The Mama Uniform
Last time I visited Morgan in San Francisco I brought heels, because I had a mental blip.
This time? Nope. Because what we do when we’re here is sprint around afterthree children, go to aquariums and play spaces and science museums, push strollers up and down very steep hills, run around in sandboxes, and kick balls in fields. Heels aren’t especially helpful for any of those things.
But that doesn’t mean that I want to be shlumpy. And so what I brought with me are several variations on my Mama...

Half-Homemade Coconut Cream Pie
Is coconut cream pie a summer thing?
I think it might be.
I could not possibly care less. It’s so good, and I want itright now, cold weather and all. All of the time. I am very sad that these photos were taken last week and that this pie no longer exists in close proximity to my face.
But it totally could should I happen to have the ingredients handy, because honestly: this recipe is such a lazy-man’s pie, what with all the totally-not-homemade substitutions and cut corners (sort of like my choco...
Counting Clouds
Three screenings ofPlanes(for real; I think someone was excited about flying), one waffle, one banana, one cup of blueberries, one cup of pasta, one cup of cereal, one cup of dried green beans, two applesauces, three crackers, one yogurt parfait, and one McDonald’s egg-and-cheese biscuit later (what can I say? the child can eat), and we’re in San Francisco!
Of course, the first order of business was to head straight to In-N-Out Burger for some animal style action.Because we werestarving.
