Hold On

vintage coat

Every Saturday when I was in middle school, my best friend Arielle and I walked over to the Salvation Army on West 46th Street, returning home with huge plastic bags filled with clothing that we’d gotten for a dollar or two per piece. Every once in awhile when I’m visiting my parents I still stop by – mostly to check out the (honestly amazing) furniture selection on the third floor – but when it comes to clothing, the finds are much fewer and further between than they used to be back in the d...

I Love You Guys

hot hairdo

You made my day yesterday. Thank you so much for all the kind thoughts and well wishes (and advice…please keep it coming). I also just wanted to say:

it’s been so strange keeping such a big thing to myself, since what I write about every day is very literally whatever’s on my mind at the moment. If I’ve seemed slightly tuned-out and have been talking too much about things like biscuits…well, that’s why. I’ve been desperate to write about about a million more important topics, but have been hol...

Baked Penne

baked penne mozzarella

So my son does this very cute thing lately that is also slightly problematic.

Whenever he’s eating, he wants me to be eating, too. And he indicates this by actually pushing food into my mouth and saying “EAT IT, mama, EAT IT.” It’s a nice impulse – sharing, et cetera – but the problem arises because he wants me to be physically consuming foodat all seconds during which he is consuming food.

And he eats at the speed of…well, a two-year-old. And I, unfortunately, have developed the habit of inhal...

Let’s Go Somewhere Warm & Sunny

Just for fun, because I’m fantasizing this morning: some favorite bathing suits and other pretty let’s-blow-this-popsicle-stand-and-head-somewhere-warm things.

WONKEV800003NAW_1_large

P.S. Let me show you the best bathing suit in the world: this one(also available in black). I usually don’t spend a ton on bathing suits – I feel like you can often find ones that are just as cute in the $60 range (meaning Victoria’s Secret-level prices)- but this bathing suit? Is the best one in the world. It actually belongs to Morgan...

This news is so depressing. Juice cleanses instead of…HOT DOGS? What is the world coming to? (Read here for why I’m anti-juice cleanse.)

Lust Object: Camel Coat

kim-kardashian-660

Alright, it’s not often that I see Kim Kardashian’s clothing and go “NEED THAT.” I don’t like tight, or short, or lacy, and I certainly don’t like all three at once.

But I loved this Max Mara Manuela coat. And the fact that I’m still loving it months after she wore it all over Paris means that I reallylove it.I think she looks sweet and cozy. Like a very fashionable teddy bear.

Oh, Hello Again

jordan reid hello

My monkey mug and I have rejoined the world, all thanks to a 10AM Skype meeting that allowed me to keep my pajama bottoms on (my goodness, do I ever love that about Skype), but still required me to actually brush my hair and put on for-real makeup for the first time in two weeks. The meeting ended up getting pushed to tomorrow, but that’s okay…because it means that I actually brushed my hair and put on for-real makeup for the first time in two weeks.

Small successes.

I even…(sort of)…want to go...

Spectacular Spinach Lasagna

spinach lasagna

This isn’t a dish I make all that often, but every time I do, I re-resolve to pull it back into more frequent rotation. It’s so, so good.

The cons: It’s a little labor-intensive – not “difficult” at all; it just involves quite a lot of ingredients (none of which are expensive) and a bunch of different pots and pans. I hate cleaning pots and pans with a passion, so if I’m willing to clean four of them, that means we’re talking about a seriously delicious meal.

The pros: It makes children eat spi...

Meltdowns And Cozy Discoveries

I spent a few hours this weekend trying to squeeze more potential storage spaces out of our storage-space-free house, which meant a trip to Bed Bath & Beyond for containers.

This excursion led to two discoveries:

1.Elizabeth Arden’s Ultra Plush Robe iswonderful.I didn’t mean to buy it, but I ran my hand over it while I passed by on my way to the storage container section, and it was so soft that I had to check the price. And once I saw it was $39, I owned it.I think you should own it, too.

2. Tw...
