Giveaway: Must-Have Styling Tool

1017126_686409558075796_772807482_n-1

Click over to my Facebook page to enter to win one of my all-time favorite styling tools, Theorie’s SAGA Collection Flat Iron ($175 value).

P.S. Don’t worry about the “follow the link to enter to win” thing; it may look kinda spammy, but that’s the new “legal” way to hold giveaways on Facebook, as opposed to just asking you guys to comment under a post. It also makes it much easier for me to make sure that I’ll be able to get in touch with the winner.

When Is The Right Time, Part Deux

right time to have a baby

A few days ago, shortly after I made our announcement, I got an email from someone who said that I was “crazy” for having another baby now, with a husband who’s in business school in another state. And while I’m not sure the comment was especially well-intentioned…I still thought that it was interesting, because it brings up a question that everyone wonders about – worries about – when it comes to when to begin (or expand) their own family.

When is the right time?

And if you say “now”…is that c...

Deconstructed Vegetable Pot Pie

slow cooker stew

OK, so expecting a baby for the second time?

Reallydifferent than the first.

It’s different in good ways (I’m more chilled out about the whole process, mostly because I keep forgetting that I’m pregnant) and not-so-good ways (I’m sicker and about ten thousand times more exhausted), but the definite, one-hundred-percent most fun difference?

The first time around, I kept waiting for weird cravings to hit, and was super excited for them, mostly because wanting something bizarre and then eatingexact...

From The Old Days

jordan reid ramshackle glam

Remember last week, when I talked about the days when I would spend Saturday mornings at thrift shops with my best friend and return home with some truly spectacular finds…and how sometimes it’s nice to hold onto those finds, even when they don’t feel like they quite work in your life for a little while?

Here’s another example.

This coat – a full-length cashmere Harve Bernard – was $12 when I found it (smushed into a coat rack along the wall on the second floor of the Salvation Army) in 1998. I...

A Little Strictly PG, A Little Acting Out

Screen Shot 2014-01-20 at 9.17.27 AM

The occasional Aerosmith concert or engagement party aside, we don’t actually go out together in the city a whole lot. We mean to, we planto…but whenever we hire a babysitter it ends up just sounding so much easier to go out somewhere around here rather than end our evening with a Metronorth ride and a taxi from the train station.

Lazy? Yes. But we’re lazy. Ain’t no shame.

A whole-family trip into the city that enables our son to get in some quality grandparent time while we head out until what...

Where To Get A Tattoo In New York City: Addiction NYC (Ask For Austin)

Like I said, we were in the mood to act out a little. But since bar hopping or clubbing isn’t really on the menu at the moment, we headed down to a tattoo parlor on St. Mark’s Place that has tattooed my family (my mom, my dad, Kendrick, and me) a total of five times.

Now six.

No tattoos for the pregnant lady – we’ll get to that next fall – but Kendrick has a design he’s wanted to get for awhile now, so:

This was how we spent the rest of our evening in the city.

Right This Moment

A few objects of affection to brighten up your afternoon, including the perfect nude lipstick, one hell of a good bralet, and the happiest pillow on the planet.

P.S. In semi-related news, I was pretty thrilled when I checked my outgoing analytics and saw just how many RG readers clicked from my site over tothese (possibly NSFW). You are a sexy bunch.

Happy Friday!

How To Remove A Turtleneck From A Sweater

how to remove a turtleneck

Remember this sweater? MyFresh Princesweater?

diy sweater

I liked it…but didn’t love it, mostly because the turtleneck made me nuts (as you can see from the above photo, in which I am physically yanking on the neckline and trying to get it further away from my skin).

Nothing a little DIY can’t take care of.

exposed seam

Step 1: With most knitted turtlenecks, the turtleneck part is actually knitted separately and then attached to the body of the sweater, so the first thing you need to do is find the stitches holding one...

My Perfect Strawberry “Shortcake” (With Homemade Biscuits)

strawberry shortcake biscuits

Oh, fine.

Let’s talk about biscuits some more. (I can’t stop eating them.)

There is a restaurant in Ogunquit, Maine (the town where we got married, and one of my all-time favorite places in the world to visit since I was a little girl) called “Barnacle Billy’s“, and seriously: if I had to pick my Number One Restaurant In The World…that would be it. Not because the food is especially good – I mean, the lobsters and steamed clams are great, but they’re great pretty much everywhere in Maine – but...

Obviously The Leopard Carpet Is Staying

Screen Shot 2014-01-16 at 9.26.59 AM

So this – my office, which never really gets used because let’s be honest: my office is the dining room table – is the room that will have to be the nursery. I say “have to be” because…well, it’s the only unoccupied room in our house other than the attic and the basement, neither of which seem especially infant-appropriate.

It won’t get put into use right away, of course – part of the reason why we bought our beloved king-size bed is because we’re going to use a Snuggle Nest again, and two adu...
