The Magic Unicorn Of Strapless Bras

los angeles leather shorts

Q. I have a weird question: I love wearing loose off the shoulder tops like you do. I’ve noticed you very often seem to have no visible strap when you do…so what are you doing to hold the girls up?

Have you found the magic unicorn of strapless bras? I love that bare-shouldered look, but I haven’t been able to achieve it. Please help!

Olivia

A. Lolol I love this question. And I have three answers for you:

1. Yes, I have found the magical unicorn, and it is called the Wacoal Halo Lace Strapless Br...

DIY Valentine’s Day Cherry Blossom Card (Ages 2+)

cherry blossom card

One more easy Valentine’s Day craft that’s especially good for very little kids, since it doesn’t require a whole lot in the way of control: a Cherry Blossom Card. The colors are pretty and spring-y, the setup is minimal, and you can make these into anything from small cards for your child’s classmates to a larger card for a parent or grandparent.

Penciled In

pink heels

Ladylike dressing – tailored jackets, pencil skirts, hair that might be considered “coiffed” – just isn’t really my thing. I’m not very good at it.

Except…pencil skirts? I like them so much. Usually on other people.

I’ve had this pencil skirt for approximately most of my life, and never wear it, but it’s nice and waist-emphasizing, and despite the fact that I tend not to like emphasizing my waist just because it’s not my favorite spot in the world…I figured it might be fun to emphasize it now....

Big Boy Beds & Not-So-Bad Ikea Trips

Trip To Ikea

Kendrick and I have been getting along pretty well today, so we thought we’d take a quick trip to#ikeato even things out.

It wasn’t that bad!

I mean, it was bad – not gonna lie – but notthatbad. Certainly not as bad as last time, mostly because for these reasons:

1. We both started and ended the trip with a stop at the Ikea cafeteria, and: meatballs;

2. We wereextremelygoal-oriented – into the toddler bed area and right back out again (I managed to suppress my desire to just check out the marketp...

To City, To City

Screen Shot 2014-02-06 at 7.05.49 PM

What I wore for yesterday’s meetings in the city: gold heels (and Sorel Slimpack bootsfor the ten-foot journey from my front door to my car, which is really pretty intense), glasses, and the best sweater in the universe, which is so huge and slouchy that it basically feels like wearing a rug. Which is exactly what I like sweaters to feel like.

It’s Express from years ago, but I haven’t worn it in ages and ages; I figured I’d lost it, but when I was at my mom’s house the other day I discovered...

Brushing Outside The Box

You know how when you’re a little kid and visit the dentist, they always give you the option of a few “weird” toothpaste flavors? Bubble gum, chocolate, strawberry, that kind of thing? I always chose mint. Which I guess is kind of weird for a kid, but I’ve always had a major thing about needing my toothpaste to taste fresh, as opposed to, say…fruity.

So when Crest sent over the three brand-new (and very out-of-the-box) toothpaste flavors in the Crest Be line to try, I was skeptical. Take Mint...

DIY Valentine’s Day Cards For Kids

paper hearts

I’m not a crafting-type mom.

I’d like to be – I aspire to be – but you know those moms who have cabinets filled with things like glitter and pipe cleaners, and enjoy settling down on snowy afternoons to create bedazzled things with their children? They are not me.

But I do like cutting hearts out of construction paper (who doesn’t?), and I very much want to get my son excited about the fact that Valentine’s Day is coming up. It’s a holiday that I have historically not really cared about, but is...

Soft Makeup For Day To Night

day to night makeup

I’m very much a default-mode person when it comes to my everyday makeup: I go for the same brushes, the same shadow colors, the same liner, the same gloss. Just because…it’s easy, I suppose. I love playing with makeup, but I also usually have fifteen minutes to get out the door, so I generally just stick with what I know works.

A few days ago, though, I shot an extremely cool collaboration with a beauty brand I’ve been a major fan of for years (I’ll share as soon as I’m allowed; so excited), a...

Today’s Big Events, In Instagram Form

Screen Shot 2014-02-05 at 4.15.45 PM

I stayed in the city with my son and dogs last night to attend a ShopStyle dinner at Toro (tapas, yum yum yum), and was super excited to find street parking near my parents’ place, which meant that I got to skip handing over the truly unconscionable amount of money that New York City parking garages demand in order to keep your car overnight.

It also, however, meant that I got to spend the early-morning hours digging my car out of a two-foot snowdrift using only an umbrella (because Kendrick u...

In this video: five easy looks for chilly days (most take about thirty seconds), and pretty much every hat in my wardrobe, from the (I think) rather fabulous to the completely ridiculous.
