Club Med Sandpiper Bay Mini-Review

“Mini-review” because one of my quibbles (of which there are not many) is that the Wifi is kinda eh, and I’d really like to finish this post before I get bounced off the page.

Summary of this week:

YARRRRR. (“Yarrrr”, in case you don’t speak Me, means “This is good; let’s do more of this, please.”)

happy boy

My son seems to like it okay, too.

When I told a colleague I was going on vacation to Club Med, she kind of gave me a “…Huh? Why?” look. I get it: all-inclusive family-friendly resor...

Buca di Beppo Meatballs

I know next-to-nothing about Sofia Vergara, and still: I cannot help but think she is wonderful. She wears ridiculous sequin dresses, is rarely pictured without a glass of champagne and doing some crazy dance move in an era when stars try to cultivate a photo-perfect image at all times, and she and Julie Bowen posed for the this send-up of Sophia Loren and Jayne Mansfield:

That is an amazing photo.

Shehasto be wonderful.

Anyway, she also appears to have quite wonderful taste in food: I, too, am...

Some Romantic Evening

boho dress

I’ve owned this dress for a couple of years now, and I love it so much, and yet this is the second time I have ever worn it. Because while I’m usually all for wearing whatever you want wherever you want, and generally pay very little attention to things like dress codes and occasions…this dress is pretty specific. It kind of demands to be worn in close proximity to palm trees.

It’s such a romantic dress, but also surprisingly easy – almost like wearing nothing at all – which meant I wanted to...

Oh, Brilliant!

I have had my teeth professionally whitened three times in my life. The first time was ten years ago: I splurged on a treatment at a really, really expensive chain, and the results were…pretty good, from what I can remember, although I also remember wishing they had lasted longer given how much I spent. The second time, I got custom trays from my dentist. It cost a fortune, I thought I was going to choke on the cement-y compound that he filled my mouth with to make a mold (seriously, it was c...

Books And Books And Beaches And Books

happy face jewelry

Pictured: Liza Schwartz bracelet.

Why all the happiness and smiley faces?

Because we take off for a week in Florida tomorrow. I have an exceptionally busy couple of months on the horizon, so I’m going to try to do my best to actually relax and lay flat on my back doing nothing but staring at a Kindle for a minimum of many hours every single day that I’m there. The plan is to return home rested and tan and healthy (I’m even – !!!! – bringing running sneakers) and ready to get moving.

But in order...

Top Ten Favorite Baby Girl Names

Pregnant Belly with Post-It Notes of Baby Names

OK, fiiiiine – was so fun I want to do it again. This time let’s talk baby girl names! Partially because, like I said: fun, and also because Kendrick and I are circling in on our top picks…but there’s always room for inspiration. And you guys have the best ideas. Share your favorites in the comments??

In no particular order, ten of my all-time favorite baby girl names:

Quick Trick: Hide Your Growing-Out Bangs

I love my bangs.

I also don’t want to deal with them anymore.

IMG_8122

I like the way they look when they’re blown-out and the perfect length (that’s them hanging out with me in a Vegas elevator last spring), but the reality is that a) I do not have time or patience to trim my bangs nearly as often as I should; and b) the second there is even a single molecule of moisture in the air, they head every direction except for the way that I would like them to.

See? Cute picture; not-so-cute bangs. (In my defen...

Top Ten Favorite Baby Boy Names

wooden_baby_blocks

Kendrick and I started keeping a running list of our favorite names for both boys and girls in my phone from the moment we found out that we were expecting. Now that I know we’re having a girl, I thought I’d share my Boy List (in no particular order, although I left my absolute favorite for last).

Mostly because talking about baby names is, for some reason, the most fun thing in the entire world.
